Called in for lunch on a Monday. The attached museum and old wares collection was interesting to browse through, as were the old Women's Weekly and other magazines that date right back to the 1950s. We didn't really have high expectations for lunch and it did take quite a while to get our order. That said, we were very pleasantly...

On a family history tour retracing the great grandparents, who lived in Sofala. The gaol house coffee shop was a surprise. Filled with all sorts of memorabillia. A real step back in time. And a bit of an understanding of the conditions of the time.

Stopped in on way from Bathurst to Mudgee for lunch. Good coffee and choice of lunch and all day breakfast options. Is popular with locals which is always a good sign and reasonably priced. Also had museum on site which is worth a look.

We have been to Sofala a number of times and only now have discovered the Old Sofala Goal Café and Museum. What a pleasant surprise it was. After sitting down in the inside area to have a coffee, we spent some time exploring the museum part of the property, which was quite fascinating. Also, in another part of the museum,...

Dropped in for lunch and the burgers are amazing and the coffee is good. Great little museum full of collectables from locals and you can also go into the original cell in the middle of the place. The museum itself is worth the trip alone but add the coffee and burgers and it makes it so much better. Lovely friendly...

Visited for lunch with friends! Staff were very helpful and welcoming. We have 4 small children who were also made to feel very welcome. Food was great and we will be visiting again. Great little museum to wander through also. A must see if visiting Sofala.

I have stayed in the Old Goal on several occasions now. The owners Dianne and Harvey are long time locals and a wealth of knowledge, friendly and trusting, old style country hospitality at its best. No internet, limited mobile phone reception, just perfect for a escape from reality. The setting is picturesque and just above the town with the pub...

If looking for comfy accommodation at a reasonable price RIGHT IN THE HEART of one of the oldest surviving little gold mining townships, then you can't go past Sofala Gaol. Also if you are looking for sincere old fashioned country hospitality, Dianne certainly provides that and more. I loved my short stay here and the help I received from Dianne...

I stayed here with my father for a weekend in the old gaol, which is a medium-sized building which had a restaurant which has since closed. There is no internet, not TV, mobile phone coverage, restaurants in the town, so come prepared. Self catering is a must and there is a full size commercial kitchen, however we were told off...

This is the third time my wife and I have stayed here. It really is a great place to stay in this area. The cottage is old, but fully self contained. Clean and well presented. Kangaroo poo around the driveway suggests that you may have had a nocturnal visitor or so. You are just across the hotel..the pub..so you will...
