We already knew from the wonderful images on Michael's listing that the property looked terrific and we weren't disappointed. Explorers Lodge is gorgeous and situated in a quiet, leafy enclave of New Norfolk .

Our room was spotless, comfortable and well appointed which was what we were expecting but it's the little extra thoughtful touches that made the stay so lovely and memorable.

First off, Michael allowed us to drop our bags off early and as were booked into lunch at The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery he also kindly offered to drop us off at the restaurant. We were more than happy to walk back after lunch to try and work off some of the calories (which were worth it!).

Our evenings were spent in the beautifully decorated Guest Lounge around the open fire and some complimentary locally made fudge was provided for us to snack on with our drinks.

Breakfast by Roberto was plentiful and delicious and we were spoiled with fresh fruit, muesli with locally made honey, good coffee, juice, bacon, eggs, tomatoes, spinach & mushrooms as well as sourdough bread with homemade preserves. We were given a choice of something different on our second morning and warm oat porridge with honey, blueberries & strawberry compote was just the thing on a 2 degree morning.

Complimentary tea & coffee was available in our room and stocked with quality Twinings Teas, Robert Timms coffees and fresh milk, not UHT and it's these little extra touches, including the fresh flowers from the garden that make Michael & Roberto excellent hosts (plus their friendly and conversational company). They have really created a fabulous hosted experience, one which I'm sure no-one could be disappointed in.

We have no hesitation in recommending this property to potential guests.

It was only an overnight stay, but we were immediately impressed by the location and the ambience of the Explorers Lodge and our room and all of the other facilities were excellent - we would definitely come back again.
We really appreciated the attention to detail that our hosts have put into this property and the superior level of care that they offer their guests is outstanding.
The little touches of having home-made biscuits in the room along with flowers from the garden was very nice, with complementary Port available in the guest lounge if we felt like a night cap.
To start the next day off with such an outstanding breakfast was a real treat and definitely a memorable part of our stay.
Overall, we were very satisfied with all aspects of our stay.

Explorer’s Lodge was our last stop after spending four weeks driving around Tasmania and it was the perfect way to end a wonderful trip. We were in the Silver wattle room which was beautiful. Having the balcony to sit on and have a cuppa was ideal. The bedroom is elegant and the bathroom is modern. Michael’s b&b stood out from others we stayed at in so many ways…handmade shortbread, chocolates, port, amazing range of breakfast choices with homemade preserves and stewed local fruit, large tv with streaming services and quiet location. So much is in easy access to New Norfolk…lunch @ The Shed, Derwent Estate, lunch/dinner @ Osteria Vista Stefano Lubiano Winery, Agrarian Kitchen, lunch @ Frogmore Creek Winery plus Russell falls and other great walks nearby. Michael is such a warm generous host so don’t hesitate to stay at Explorer’s Lodge and start exploring!

We recently had the pleasure of staying at Explorer's Lodge. Our room (Silver Wattle King) was very well appointed with the most comfortable bed we found on our travels. The grounds were gorgeous, the various sitting areas were comfortable and restfully decorated, and the breakfasts were divine with plenty of very local produce! The area is very well situated for exploring. We thank our hosts for a wonderful stay. Highly recommended!

Michael and Roberto offered us a memorable stay for all the right reasons. There was nothing too difficult and any request was not just met but exceeded. We decided to have a cheese platter to go with our wine and on return from the local supermarket we found a table set for two with everything we could want to enjoy our cheese. A three course breakfast was delivered with a cheerful smile each morning and everything was fresh, local and incredible quality.

We stayed overnight at Explorers Lodge after a long hot day in the Derwent Valley. It saved us! The Lodge has a lovely garden with tall trees, flowers, and lots of shade. We sat outside and unwound in the breeze. Then we moved into the sun lounge and watched the breeze dance in the garden as evening fell. It was a tonic! Michael and his partner are fastidious about the accomodation and the service provided. They are careful about communication ahead of your stay and making sure your room meets your needs. Our breakfast was wonderful! We couldn't rate Explorer's Lodge more highly.

We loved the three nights we stayed at Explorers Lodge in the Blackwood room. The Lodge is decorated beautifully in the Hampton style. There are two relaxing rooms for guests to socialise or enjoy some quiet time in before they retire for the night. During our stay they were delightfully decorated for the approaching festive season. The beds were extremely comfortable with premium linens. The variety of options for breakfast was amazing and they were perfectly cooked by our host. The mixed berry compote was sooo delicious. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if we were in New Norfolk.

What a lodge! Michael and Roberto were warm and welcoming to the Explorers Lodge. The lodge is clean and cosy with a real homely feel. The gardens are immaculately maintained making the garden a great spot to relax and unwind. The lodge is located in New Norfolk so it’s super close to MONA and only a short trip into Hobart. It’s a true Tassie experience! The cooked breakfast is fantastic, don’t forget to try the hash browns.... they are AMAZING!! We loved our stay at Explorers lodge and will definitely be coming back. Thanks for such a beautiful stay!

Excellent stay here, wish it was longer than the one night. Warm, friendly hosts with attention to detail. Clean, comfortable and homely room. The house is beautifully decorated and well appointed, the garden is peaceful and a joy - so many fruit trees and flowers. The breakfast was amazing! The homemade preserved fruit and full cooked was so delicious and a perfect start to our day. Little details like homemade welcome treats, books and port in the lounge, toiletries… all make for a perfect stay. Book now! I would love to come back in berry season!

Explorers Lodge is divine! A beautiful old house that has been superbly renovated and decorated by Michael and Roberto. They are wonderful hosts and were able to provide us with lots of useful information on what to see and do in the Derwent area. We had the Blue Gum room which was very comfortable and breakfast was delicious! Unfortunately my husband became ill during our stay and we very much appreciated Michael's help and concern. Luckily he recovered quickly and the rest of our holiday went smoothly.
