Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staying with the Barrett Family at Chaparral Retreat was a welcome respite from our full-time traveling lifestyle. The hosts could not have been nicer, more welcoming and thoughtful. It truly felt like a home and the convenience of separate patios with individual entrance/exit for each room really is a plus for this rural bed and breakfast. The location is perfectly situated for convenient trips to Roman Nose State Park and isn't far from excursions to Oklahoma City. If you have a chance to coincide your visit with one of their Oklahoma House Concerts, Chaparral Retreat is the perfect place to relax and enjoy an up close, personal experience with live, mellow music. The surrounding rural atmosphere is truly peaceful and fulfilling being off the beaten path. A perfect location for outdoor meditation, creative inspiration and true comfort. We could tell immediately that the Barretts honestly care for their guests and endeavor to provide a loving space for everyone. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to breathe and be, a pit-stop along your busy route, a safe space to create your own work or a home-base for an Okie adventure... Chaparral Retreat meets every need and certainly met ours 100%.

At the last moment, I called to see if they had a room due to a gas leak at the lodge at Roman Nose State Park. I am so glad we did. Alan and Linda were gracious hosts, the room was cozy and comfortable, and the breakfast was wonderful. I only wish we could have enjoyed the property more! We highly recommend staying here and hope to return in the future!

My husband and I needed a long weekend but didn’t want to go to far. We booked a room at the Chaparral Retreat and Guesthouse hoping it would be nice and relaxing. We were NOT disappointed! The room was lovely, there was coffee and breakfast in the mornings and we had a private entrance. Andy and Linda were wonderful hosts and we had great conversations with them. They have great family history with the area and we felt right at home.

We were looking forward to our stay here, it sounded wonderful from the reviews but...while the property looked interesting (it was raining during our stay) the room was in need of dusting and cleaning on most surfaces. We pulled the roman shades up to allow light in and one shade tumbled down. The admittedly large bath had no open windows anywhere, so was musty feeling but otherwise ok. Breakfast had good coffee :) but the store bought muffins were not anything tempting and we left untouched. To the owners credit, they apparently are no longer welcoming guests much, so if they had told us we would have found other options rather than land in a wing of their home which perhaps had been sitting unused for some time. The outdoor patio where we were able to snack on dinner we brought with us,badly needed sweeping and cobweb cleaning. The owner was pleasant enough, but we are unlikely to refer anyone to a stay here anytime soon.

This is a great place for a weekend getaway, with a beautiful state park (Roman Nose) to explore just down the road. There is lots to do – the park has a golf course, a lake and a big swimming pool. We didn't have time on this trip to try them out.
We had a wonderful time hiking through the woods and relaxing on our suite’s private deck -- very peaceful and natural setting. The rooms are extremely comfortable and well appointed, and the exquisite bathroom tiling and fixtures make you feel like you are in an upscale resort. The southwestern décor is tasteful and really fits the location, too.
If you are passing through Western Oklahoma, or if you want to get away from the city for some nature-therapy, we highly recommend this hidden gem.

The house is hidden away in the trees, surrounded by lush woods and gardens. Though there are hiking trails on the property, it is just one mile from the entrance to Roman Nose State Park and could be seen as an extension of the Park landscape. We were able to ride bikes to the Park, where we hiked and ate at the Lodge. The accomodations were quiet and luxurious, with bathrobes provided for our use while sitting on our private deck with morning coffee. Breakfast was fabulous. The innkeepers asked us what kind of foods we liked and did not like, so there were no surprises (tomato, onions, ham) in our omelette. Andy and Linda are very friendly but not intrusive, and genuinely interested in the people who come to stay with them. We enjoyed the most beautiful sunset while sitting on the front porch and listening to the birds singing. We stayed in the Oklahoma Room and can't wait to go back and try the New Mexico Room.

Chaparral is quiet and relaxing, comfortable and inviting, inside and out. We stayed in the Texas room which was spacious, including the bath. The food was great! Roman Nose state park is practically next door. And, our friendly hosts were very knowledgeable of the Watonga area and current events. We look forward to getting away to Chaparral again!

Did not know what to expect as we've only lived in OK a year and have not taken may day trips. What we found was a restful stay at a home in the middle of gorgeous, pastoral countryside. Not much to do in Watonga, but we drove through more beautiful country to Gloss Mountain and then back by way of Canton Lake, an easy, less-than-an-hour drive. It was a photographer's dream - lots of beautiful pastures and wheat fields.

Linda and Andy were wonderful hosts. Both days we were there, we lingered over a delicious breakfast and were educated on Oklahoma history and places to see nearby. The room was big and comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and beautifully decorated. The bed was perfect. The grounds are very pretty - nice place for a stroll.

We loved the whole experience and before we left, we booked the room for another weekend in October. Looking forward to going back!

Linda and Andy are interesting, gracious hosts who have created a peaceful, relaxing and comfortable B & B. Everything was top notch: the room, the bed, the bath, the food, the grounds, the ambiance, and the company. Ask for Andy's "apple" pie which is really made from zucchini - it's delicious as is everything they make. Fresh veggies from their garden, and we even got a ride to town on a little tour of the sights in Andy's grandfather's 1955 De Soto.

We have stayed at Chaparral Retreat before and it is always our pick to stay. I grew up in Watonga and this location was my dentist's house. It is like coming home to a familiar place. It has a wooded area you can take walks in and flowers in the spring. This year we chose Chaparral to be our first stop on a road trip. The hosts are great and friendly. We always like to see what new artwork Linda has up for us to see. Breakfast is always good. Andy and Linda are great examples of Watonga residents--friendly and helpful. It is also close to Roman Nose State Park where you can fish, swim, hike, horseback riding and other activities. We stayed in the New Mexico room that has a deck where you can drink hot tea or coffee and watch the birds and just enjoy nature. Looking to our next visit.
