A stunning four AA Red Star country house hotel, near to Bath, Longleat & Lacock. The outdoor heated pool is gorgeous in the summer, whilst in the winter open fires are as warm as the welcome. Enjoy the beautiful grounds, a delicious lunch, traditional afternoon tea, bar snacks or fabulous two AA Rosette dining. Friendly yet professional staff complement this wonderful building. Free superfast Wifi is available throughout the hotel, terrace and walled garden. We will ALWAYS match or beat any rate offered by the online travel agents.

I recommend people visit. Positives: excellent check in with information provided and given towels for the pool all delivered with a smile, staff are second to none with outstanding service and thoroughly helpful (on the hottest day of the year they should be commended). Our room was not ready at check in but supported with luggage storage and full use of the facilities and we were found when it was available. The food was tasty and we flexed the menu which was accommodated. The room (acacia premium room) was comfy and a very good standard,it has no air con but that's expected due to the age of the property and shower was over the bath, temple spa products are always a delight and fluffy towels and bed linen were provided. The pool was refreshing and a joy to use on a hot day. A massive positive is the maintenance is impeccable, try to find a scuff on the wall or a stained chair and you will struggle. Negative: maybe slightly expensive food £25 for fish and chips and £38 for steak, £14 for a cosmo but we had a dinner credit so was expecting these prices. Maybe the rooms have better cooling methods. There are not enough loungers so maybe some chairs could be supplied. Overall I'd rather pay the extra few quid on the food for the extremely well-maintained hotel with the luxury of a pool which are a maintenance cost and enjoy this little luxury hotel. Would I go again? Yes, I want to see how it looks at Xmas time.

This family weekend trip was a special occasion for my dad's 70th birthday, and the staff at Beechfield House made it perfect for all of us. Elaine, the housekeeper was so warm and welcoming - even letting our 6 year old sign us in, and taking the time to make us all feel comfortable and at home. The hotel is incredibly cosy, and the perfect place to unwind by roaring fireplaces in the winter. During our visit there was a huge storm and we felt perfectly safe and warm while the storm raged outside. At Beechfield, you are only a 25 min drive from Bath where the Christmas markets are definitely worth a visit in December. We look forward to returning in the summer so that we can enjoy the pool!

We had a fabulous stay at the country manor Beechfield House in the Melksham area in Wiltshire UK. It was perfect for relaxing and an easy walk to town along the river. We spent a day in Bath only a half hour away. Because it is a bit away from cafes we appreciated the morning breakfast provided and the dinners and lunches were gourmet and accomodating to our non-meat diet. We stayed in the Apple room--so spacious with a beautiful view of the pool. Daisy the manager/front desk/everything else person was friendly and professional and fun to converse with. The housekeeping staff quickly attended to some special requests we had. The eclectic Art Deco decor and colorful art throughout the public spaces was delightful. Highly recommend!

We booked a family room for 4 people, we could smell a terrible smell before we even opened the door. The room had an overwhelming pungent smell of dirty wet dogs and old dirty hoover bags, despite both windows having been opened prior to our arrival to try to air the smell. In addition to this the ‘double sofa bed’ was just about large enough (and made up for) 1 person only. Upon pointing this out to Beth (who was in the laundry cupboard opposite our room at the time) she told us she was too busy to come and smell the room as she claimed she was on her own, despite someone else being on reception. We went down to reception to ask to have our room hoovered and freshened up and to supply an extra bed so our room could sleep 4 people as we had booked over a month in advance, we were told me would need to speak to the manager. The manager came and we realised it was Beth, who had refused to take 2 steps across the hallway to check our room initially. She had a very arrogant attitude and told us she couldn’t do anything about the state of the cleanliness of our room, or the issue with the bed as she was on her own. We explained we had travelled for 3.5 hours with 2 children, one who is allergic to dogs and we had not been told that our room was dog friendly and it didn’t state this anywhere when we booked. Having worked in the travel industry for over 20 years, I have never encountered someone in a managerial position who was so intentionally unhelpful and obtrusive in finding a solution. Such a shame as the hotel and grounds a very pleasant but hugely let down by Beth being front of house.

Response from Beechfield House, General Manager at Beechfield House
Responded 6 Sept 2023
Thanks for your repeated reviews on here and elsewhere. One probably would have sufficed but we all have our own agendas I suppose. Clearly we had a problem with your room which could have been handled much better. I am very sorry that this affected your stay so much. Unfortunately on the day you checked in the duty manager’s car broke down and he did not come in. The hotel was full and the less senior staff on duty had no alternative room to move you to. With more experience they should have cancelled your booking but this is not lightly done. We subsequently traced the smell to milk spilt by the previous guest in your room. It has of course now been dealt with. Whilst we totally accept that your room was not to our usual high standard and apologise profusely for this I cannot accept the very personal attack on the member of staff trying to deal with a difficult situation. We do not believe the words you have used to describe the service given by Beth, our assistant restaurant manager, correspond to reality or to the vast majority of opinion of our guests.

We stayed at this Hotel for 2 nights, it claims to be 4 Stars.
We stayed in the Yew bedroom, facing the driveway, there was
No latch on the bathroom door or lock, Some Furniture had broken drawers with bottoms falling out, Coat hangers in the wardrobe had missing attachments, so we were unable to hang clothes on the rail, The wardrobe contained an ironing board and safe, so there was little room for clothes, The bedroom safe was not working, we asked for a replacement, and the replacement did not work either. The DVD Recorder was not connected to the TV, and did not work, The Hotel Book in our bedroom contained only a children's menu for dinner,
I had to ask twice on booking for confirmation and it arrived several days later.
At the breakfast buffet, most of the dried food contained bananas, and there was a poor selection of fresh fruit. The cooked breakfast was nice with several choices.
We checked out after 9 am, there was no receptionist at the desk.
The cost of 2 nights was paid for earlier in the year, however on leaving I was invoiced for a service charge. I have since discussed the charge with the hotel, it has been reimbursed.
We did report the broken safe and the missing attachments for the hangers to reception.
It would appear the room was not checked thoroughly before our arrival.

My old school friend and I met up for a night to catch up as we live 200 miles apart. We have both just become pensioners and we are not particularly big drinkers but when we were told to leave the bar at 9.45 before it was closed at 10 we found ourselves with half a bottle of Pino Blush and nowhere to sit as the Morning Room (only other space) was fully occupied by a wedding party, we were also directed to the 'conservatory' which was basically a corridor leading to the bedrooms. NB the bar area is really lovely-dark blue walls and a relaxed vibe-it is presumably meant to invite guests to sit in there! In the end we took out drinks outside in the drizzle and put up an umbrella to keep the rain off. The bar person Anthony (who had a friendly approach) said it was 'the owner' who insisted on the bar closure, and that it was a regular thing. Even on a Friday night? I felt sorry for him as he was clearly used to having this conversation with bemused guests. If I had know this I would not have booked the Beechfield as the whole purpose was for us to talk till late together. We had separate rooms both at nearly £300 for the night, it is unheard of to close the bar so early in a hotel that purports to be luxury level. There should be a warning about this!

Thank you for your review. I am so sorry that your stay was affected by such poor service on our part. As a result of your feedback and that of another review recently posted the Operations manager has now reviewed this with the team and removed the discretion to close the bar early that was only ever meant to be used when the hotel was quiet and the bar not being used. The bar should be open untill at least 11.00pm and then guests still wishing to continue drinking to politely be asked to move to the Morning room where drinks can be finished at leisure.

The hotel is in a quiet location, and our room "Apple" was clean and well appointed, overlooking the pool and patio area. We arrived early but the staff were very helpful and our room was available. We managed to get a bed around the pool which was great. However, an "anniversary party" took place that afternoon, so all the tables and chairs in the patio area became full. There was no room for hotel guest, and we waited nearly 30 minutes for a tea and coffee. Our "package" included dinner, but the menu is very limited and expensive, and only covered a single course ( service is added to everything, despite the long delays). We travel a lot, but would not return here. If you are thinking of visiting, would suggest you check if an "event" is taking place, or take your own chairs! Also, check your bill, as if you underspend at dinner, the hotel keeps the difference!

Thank you for your review. It was actually a group of residents also staying with us for a celebration that were occupying the tables on the terrace - a result of all the lovely weather! As is very usual the dinner allowance represents a saving over the B&B rate so for example depending on what rate you book the allowance might be £40 but the additional cost over the B&B rate is £30 so you save £10. Obviously if you don't use your full allowance, which is unlikely, then your saving will be reduced. Our restaurant prices I'm afraid reflect the very real incredible increases in food and beverage costs we have all seen over the last couple of years.

We have had a lovely stay at Beachfield. The room in the main house is amazing, huge four post bed, lounge area, really nice big bathroom with good shower. We had afternoon tea in the front room which was nice. I asked for the fire to be lit and that made it even more comfortable for us. I had emailed with Elaine about dietary requirements and she went out of her way to arrange this for me. She also was friendly on our arrival with some friendly banter which we enjoyed. Our friends needed some help amending part of their stay and she also did this for them which was appreciated. Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable Elaine! We had dinner in the dining room and that was excellent, the staff were attentive. Cali-Anna was particularly lovely. The bed is comfortable, good mattress and rooms quiet. The winter wonderland package is good value, we only paid £17 in addition to this from dinner where we had steak etc so it’s mostly covered by the package charge. Well worth a stay especially during winter months where you just want somewhere cosy ti relax with good food!

An attractive hotel set in pleasant grounds that really disappointed. Staff at check in were helpful & cordial, the restaurant - bar manger engaging and pleasant. The Ash room adjoined the car park was simple but fine. We booked the Dinner package to find the "Mains" uninspiring so ordered simple "Classics" that proved to be poor. Explained our disappointment to the restaurant manager who was helpful. At checkout we explained how we used a small portion of the pre-paid dinner allowance & asked to be invoiced for what we actually ate & refunded the balance. Reception declined & referred us to the hotel T&C's. We asked for the discretionary service charge to be refunded & the complaint to reviewed by management, we got no reply. Would we stay again, not a chance!

Just returned from a lovely two night stay at the Beechfield House. Fantastic house with beautiful gardens. We received a very warm and friendly welcome on arrival and stayed in Pear on the second floor overlooking the pool. The room was very comfortable with everything we needed. Good quality thick towels and robes. Shower was over the bath so can be a bit tricky for some people and we could have done with additional storage for our toiletries etc. We had dinner both nights in the private dining room with our friends which was very relaxing and we didn't need to worry about disturbing other guests! We could not fault the service at dinner and breakfast. Unfortunately at check out, however, there was a mix up with our bill which did take a while to sort out. It may be prudent to sign for drinks/wine ordered at the bar to avoid items being allocated to the wrong room and there is a service charge added to everything.
