Travellers' Choice
A stunning four AA Red Star country house hotel, near to Bath, Longleat & Lacock. The outdoor heated pool is gorgeous in the summer, whilst in the winter open fires are as warm as the welcome. Enjoy the beautiful grounds, a delicious lunch, traditional afternoon tea, bar snacks or fabulous two AA Rosette dining. Friendly yet professional staff complement this wonderful building. Free superfast Wifi is available throughout the hotel, terrace and walled garden. We will ALWAYS match or beat any rate offered by the online travel agents.

Beechfield House is a beautiful Country House Hotel set in lovely grounds. Our celebration lunch there was a great success, and everyone enjoyed the whole event. The lovely large, elegant and airy garden room was the perfect setting for our celebration. I was concerned about how staff would cope, considering the staffing difficulties in catering due to Covid 19 but I need not have been. Our excellent three course lunch with wine for 17 guests was served with efficiency and professionalism. I have great pleasure in recommending Beechfield House, based on our experience. Thank you all at Beechfield.

20th April 2021 booked a hotel room through Booking.com for Beechfield House. 25th June 2021 contacted Beechfield House to see if I could postpone our stay to another time as my 4 year old son had developed a bad cough. I cited that I didn't believe it was COVDI related as it sounded like the cough he had had earlier in the year which was croup. I also stated that I didn't need a definite date for rebooking and would be happy to pay any additional premium or even wait until after the peak season if they were fully booked up. Michaela who I spoke to said that she would contact the General Manager and get back to me. 25th June 2021 by 17:30 I hadn't heard back so I called back several times - they never answered and then I sent an email confirming the above. 26th June 2021 Upon waking up my wife had developed a tickly cough and when she took her temperature it was in excess of 39 degrees. 26th June 2021 8:30am I called Beechfield House to advise them that whilst I was waiting to hear back from them, my wife had now developed the symptoms listed above. Rebecca who I spoke to informed me that Michaela had spoken to the owner and he had declined my request to postpone. I explained that I understood that, but that was based on my child being poorly - understandable even if I don't believe that was great service for a hotel to offer. I reiterated that whilst I understood that, now my wife is displaying symptoms of Covid-19 that, in accordance with their policy on their website (see attached) that I would not now be allowed to attend and should contact them to postpone the booking. This was refused and I believed there had been a lack of understanding so I requested the General Manager call me back. 26th June 2021 12:00pm I called back as I still hadn't heard anything and I was told there was nothing I could do until the Managing Owner had called me back. 26th June 2021 15:00pm. This is now after the time I was due to check in and I still hadn't heard so I contacted Booking.com as we booked through them initially. They then put in a request to either postpone or cancel. 26th June 2021 17:00pm I received an incredibly rude and accusatory email from Chris Whyte - Managing Owner refusing to postpone or cancel my booking. Chris refused to speak to me at all - excellent example of how to treat customers. I would suggest avoid the place regardless of how appealing it may seem, because all Chris wants is to take your money and provide no service whatsoever.

The hot water didn’t work in the morning so we had to use the pool for our morning shower. We informed the hotel manager as soon we found out. The manger could not deal with it and so had to call in the owner. The owner did fix it, but we were due to check out by this time and were fully dressed. In addition, the service was very poor throughout because of recruitment and retention issues. The food was wonderful, the pool area lovely and the decor nicely done. I do feel sorry for the hotel owner. He has been hard hit by COVID and is struggling to cope, but there appears to be a crisis of leadership. I sought out the hotel owner, commended him for his hotel, but did make him aware of the issues with our stay. He did not offer any recompense for our issues which I do understand as he is desperately trying to recover from COVID. Nonetheless, we did pay good money to stay and unfortunately the standard was not as we expected.

Just had a three night stay at the Beechfield. Really lovely place, perfect country house hotel with original features and a touch of luxury. Excellent pool area and nice outside space. Breakfast was really good and dinner was also nice, full of flavour and good quality. I would definitely recommend this hotel. My only one negative is that you can feel the effect of Covid and resultant hotel staff shortages. The staff did the very best they could but they desperately need more help. Maybe the owners / senior management could pitch in a bit more.
