We made two visits to The Bear in short succession because our son (a marathon canoeist) was participating in "Waterside D" and then the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race. The rooms (we booked a double and a single on both occasions) were comfortable and clean. The bathrooms were small but absolutely functional and again clean - there was plenty...

We had friends visiting us in Devizes over Easter and arranged to meet in The Bear. We enjoyed coffee whilst we caught up and decided to stay on and have lunch. The bar areas were quiet and relaxing. Our friend is vegetarian and didn't fancy the limited vegetarian options on the menu so we asked the barman who took our...

Visited on a Monday as we were passing through and had a lovely experience.good wheelchair access and we were made very welcome. The staff were very helpful and polite.I chose a rare rump steak and my wife had a very large battered Haddock. Both were cooked to perfection and a lot of thought went into the salad which was one of the...

Friday evenings they have live music. Not a great place to sit and view but who cares when you can hear the likes of John Verity all close and personal. Yes The John Verity Band playing to an audience of circa 30 people (capacity100) A real treat to hear this top headline band playing in Devizes. They really enjoyed themselves...

Visited her with friends for a coffee and cake. Unfortunately, the lounge was closed due to a private party going on. So we ended up sitting in the courtyard. It was fairly quiet as it was Saturday afternoon. We ordered coffee at the bar. There was only 2 choices of cake which was disappointing, my friend, who had been before,...

Had a fantastic afternoon tea a few months ago (photo attached) decided to go again for a treat with friends. Really disappointed, sandwiches were great, cake selection was awful, so much so we left them all, it consisted of a fllapjack type of cake, a bakewell slice all cut up into pretty little triangles!! Really disappointed, emailed them to air...

Here again for valentines week. Room very nice, although a little tired in places. Friendly staff & a delicious breakfast of smoke salmon & scrambled eggs. My husband has the cooked breakfast which he devoured with gusto. Would like yoghurt with our fruit next time please. Very enjoyable all round. A wonderful evening meal at The Lamb On The strand!

An interesting old coaching house. We visited for lunch. Good ambience, traditional yet clean and well maintained. Several bars. We went for the one at the front overlooking the market square. Good lunch, good value, good service. It worked for us.

I write this at 10:42 pm as the Blues band gives it large in the cellar bar This is the, as advertised, "insulated cellar bar", which I can only imagine has been covered with fairy wing gossamer, because from my room on the first floor I can clearly hear, note by effin note, how ropey the bassist is I'm not...

Hotel full of character in the middle of Devizes, good beer (Wadworth). The food was very good with plemty of choice and live music on most Friday nights in the cellar bar. Free car parking at the rear.
