We stayed here for a night in October, while travelling around the south of England. It was a great base for Avebury and Stonehenge. This is a very old inn, and the rooms had loads of medieval character, the low door to the bedroom was really noticeable as even I had to lower my head slightly and I'm only 5'8....

I had lunch here with my daughter, son and grandson. What a lovely pub this is, we had fish among other dishes and it was superb. The chef here really knows how to make a risotto. The service was first class and when my daughter needed to change her son, she was was shown to a lovely warm room to...

We returned last week and had another very enjoyable evening. Food as always fresh and interesting, atmosphere and staff excellent. However, what spoils a perfectly nice experience is the automatic addition of 10% service charge on the bill. I did challenge it and agreed to pay it as it was the same amount that I would have left in a...

Was not told the proprietors do not stay overnight. Had very nice Sunday lunch and said we might be back for dinner, then went sight seeing. Not told no one would be there so when we arrived back in the evening the place was in darkness. Wanted something to eat and had to go to the local pub who said...

My family and I have been coming here for a number of years for Sunday lunch and would come all the time if it wasn't a 40 minute drive away! Their roasts are always very good but actually their fish is really the thing to have here. All the fish is fresh and beautifully cooked. Make sure you arrive early...

This is a delightful pub serving excellent food with friendly staff. And most unusually there is no background music. There is nothing useful to add to this but since they insist on two hundred words as a minimum I am padding out to reach this number. That should do it.

We spent a wonderful evening in the garden, enjoying the best fish and chips for 5 years, don't miss the homemade chips. You couldn't ask for a better service! We visited the nearby church and bumped into the bell ringers who invited us to try ringing ourselves - an magical experience!

Lovely room, super food and very friendly and helpful staff. The food was super, we are in the food business and possibly quite critical but we really enjoyed everything. We also enjoyed a super bottle of NZ Sauvignon recommended to us by Phil who really seems to know his stuff! I would suggest the food is West End restaurant rather...

Visiting the area for a family wedding, we passed the G&D, stopped to check it out, and booked a table for the evening. The menu is very fishy, although carnivores are not forgotten, with interesting combinations and lots of choice. I had an excellent pint of ale.......starters were varied( I had Scallops and my wife Asparagus) and with interesting 'extras'....

Went on a Travelzoo voucher, which included 3 courses and a glass of Prosecco. The girl in the bar gave us a friendly welcome, and was very knowledgeable about the food - and the real ales! The food was excellent - everything served hot and freshly prepared; sauces and seasonings were all spot on. Obviously someone who knows and cares...
