My wife and I stayed at the Old Bell in Malmesbury after seeing pics posted by friends on Facebook. We stayed for 2 nights in a Cosy Room. The Hotel is fresh, clean and well looked after. It has a very old look and feel externally but inside is posh and extravagant. The staff we met: Phoebe, Maisy, Hamish, Elaine and Emily (to name a few) were all extremely polite and welcoming. The breakfast was outstanding, I had the cooked breakfast and also the pancakes with bacon and my wife had the continental breakfast and pancakes with berries. The drinks menu is good and the prices aren’t bad too. My wife had the mussels on the first night, which she didn’t enjoy, but the steak I had was perfect. The afternoon tea is quite pricey but very nice too. Overall a great 2night stay in a lovely hotel and lovely staff too. Thank you All very much. Mac & Claire

We dined here on 18th December 2021 as part of a big party of 12. You were very accommodating of various diets and we pre-ordered from both the the a la carte and Christmas party menus. The restaurant 'rooms' were very popular that night and I wondered if service would suffer - but I needn't have worried. Your staff were swift, friendly, efficient and the food was delicious. We all had such a lovely evening and wanted to thank you. In fact we're coming back for lunch this Thursday with my parents - we're non-meaty people and were really heartened to see your Veganuary menu offerings. Thank you.

Restaurant review only - we wanted somewhere for a Sunday lunch and we’re recommended here by a local person in town and managed to book a table. Good value 2 or 3 courses with some interesting freshly cooked options. Really enjoyed a crab and crayfish starter with an unusual sweetcorn sorbet, and a very good roast beef with all the trimmings. Claims to be the oldest hotel in England

We were warmly welcomed yesterday afternoon by the lovely Elaine and taken to our fabulous room. A lot of attention to details goes into this establishment. The decor and atmosphere is really fabulous. Not pretentious but enough sophistication to have the wow factor. We didn’t dine there as we were invited elsewhere but the breakfast was sensational. Local ingredients prepared to perfection. It’s really stunning there and we will return as soon as possible. Thank you so much for looking after us.

I live just a few minutes from the Old Bell and have been a regular visitor for more than a decade. The new owners have invested in Malmesbury and I am so pleased they are here. They have done a magnificent job renovating the Restaurant and Bar areas ( I understand they are working their creative magic on the rooms as we speak). They have clearly worked tirelessly to create a wonderful environment to dine and drink with friends. The Bar menu is amazing and the cocktails are 1st class. I have dined In the restaurant many times and every meal has been amazing. The reason for my 3 ⭐️ rating is simple, service is as hit and miss as you can get…………. it would be easy to blame the many students that work there but that’s not the case. It is obvious that the middle management need to review the process and structure a diners experience. Example - I popped into the lounge with my wife for a coffee and no less than 5 people were involved in the process and it took 35 minutes from arriving in the lounge to taking my 1st sip, I needed to hunt down a staff member after 20 minutes to complain and it still took another 15 minutes to get a coffee ! Employees are polite, knowledgable and Helpful + I have had some very good experiences however I have received too many “on the house” drinks and snacks due to poor service. Please review your process as there has to be a structural issue letting you down. Your product is excellent and the staff are attentive so it’s clearly the process that needs to change and you need to find some continuity.
