Our second time here. My wife has osteoarthritis in both feet so we asked for a ground floor room with walk-in shower but ended up with a room located at the furthest possible point away from the front door. There is no lift in this hotel so we had to climb the stairs up to the next floor, walk along a myriad of corridors - with additional steps here and there along the way until we got to the back staircase leading down to our room. We then negotiated our way down Three (3) floors down with our suitcases etc to reach the bowels of the hotel where our room was to be found at the back of the building. In fairness, the hotel was only booked at a few weeks notice for 2 nights commencing on a Sunday - and they did have a wedding party in too. The hotel did tell our group organiser on booking that ground floor rooms couldn’t be guaranteed - but they could’ve hinted at what ‘might’ be offered instead. Service on arrival was appalling. No one on duty at reception - because they were helping out with the wedding reception - leaving a number of us hanging about waiting for 10 minutes - with no bell to ring for attention leaving us having to ask passing waitresses to attract some attention for us. They were clearly short staffed because the bar had no one behind it either and the dinner service later on was slow on the first night. Food overall was quite nice except for Tuesday’s breakfast buffet on our second morning. The pink undercooked sausages and almost raw whole mushrooms were so unappetising that most of us didn’t bother with them. The rooms were nicely appointed but try and switch off your bedside light while bed. My attached pic will show you what I mean. The housekeeping however, was the worst I’ve ever come across in many, many hotels. We bumped into the chambermaid leaving our room after we returned to breakfast and apologised to her for our sudden appearance. She said that was okay because she had already serviced our room and there was very little to do except to empty our bin. So left it at that and away she sauntered. When we entered the room, we found that the bed had barely had the quilt pulled up and our pillows were still left where we left them in the bed after getting up. When I went into the bathroom however, Nothing had been cleaned at all. The used complimentary soap and empty shower gel tube were just left lying where I placed them after my shower and the soap’s wrapping paper was still there too. We could also see that the loo had not even been looked at either.…
Revisited Southcrest Manor recently for their Sunday Lunch. Food was exquisite with generous portions. Excellent quality at an amazing price. The staff were attentive and courteous willing to assist with any request. Despite our party size service was quick, professional and friendly. Lovely work around the grounds after lunch as well! This is why I keep coming back!
Staff were warm and welcoming - the property was immaculately clean. Rooms were great stayed in the executive and standard double during our stay and both were great - food and drink was on point - would recommend and will return
We recently celebrated my 70th Birthday here with family and friends, Kay couldn’t have done more to help us prepare and organise things for the night. The party itself was wonderful, the food excellent and the service really good we were so well taken care of. Many of our family and friends stayed over for a night or two, we all had a really lovely time. Thank you 🙏
We stayed here for one night recently at a great price. The rooms were small but clean and tidy. Staff friendly and check in was quick. Beds comfortable and a great location. This room was priced the same as your Travelodge/Premier Inn and this was nicer than recent experiences with both of them.
We stayed for one night on 18/06 arrived at 2 (check in time) to be told rooms werent ready. We were attending an event so this was inconvenient. Receptionist was yawning and looked like she wasnt in any kind of uniform. Rooms okay nothing special - bed was comfy though. Breakfast next day wasnt the best poor choice and availability of items - then we were told the restaurant area was closing so could we leave
We visited for afternoon tea in the Laura Ashley Tea Room. The room is lovely - very elegant, and with views over the garden. The tea was superb - sandwiches really fresh and scones to die for! Loads of clotted cream too. But what made it was the service from ALL the staff, both managerial and waiting staff. They couldn’t do enough for us, were so thoughtful and attentive. They should all be congratulated. Really really good.
Visited here having booked a spa break and overnight stay. The spa isn’t really a full spa but a treatment room, outdoor hot tub and an inside sauna, there is no pool or place to leisure once you have finished your spa day. There is a small relaxation room but this could fit 4 guests in at one time at best. That being said, the treatments at the spa were excellent- we all had massages and found them very good. The hotel itself is quite dated and we often found it unclean in places, cobwebs etc. We were disappointed there was no lunch menu available in the day only sandwiches which were pricey for what they were. Service also wasn’t the best. The evening meal however was delicious and couldn’t be faulted, plenty of choice and good value for money. Overall would eat here again but would be reluctant to call this a true spa day.…
I stay here regularly with work (once a week since February) and I find the hotel hit and miss, but I still return as it’s convenient place to stay and it’s at reasonable price. Good points , staff always friendly , rooms always clean, ample parking, Wi-Fi good coverage. Could improve, I don’t want to say that there is too much wrong with the hotel but I find the quality of food inconsistent, it’s definitely going worse over last few weeks to what it was back in February/ March. Also the limited menu has not changed over the time I stayed here, the stroganoff off the special was a welcome chance last time I was there. Breakfast advitised for 6.45 but it’s pointless going down before 7.00 as they are really ready! On my last visit , they had no orange juice, hash brown or brown sauce, on one day but the did on my 2nd morning this week. What I have noticed is that there is a high turnover of staff at the hotel and this has to play a part in the lack of consistent in my stays here. Gym very limited, i would t get too excited if you’re packing you kit!…
I had my wedding at the Southcrest Manor Hotel last week and am just over the moon with how everything went. The staff (particularly our wedding co ordinator Kay) were accommodating of my needs as an autistic person and had everything running smoothly from start to finish. The hotel itself is beautiful with rooms that suited all of our guests, the grounds are gorgeous and we actually spent a great deal of our time outside because of how lovely it is! At the bar they ran out of my favourite alcohol but it was only 5 minutes later that they got my attention to say they'd got some which was brilliant too. Overall I couldn't be happier with my stay there especially for such an important event!
