Where to start! Our daughter’s wedding was held at The Old Rectory on 6th August 2023. Everything was just wonderful. A truly magical day.

Special thanks must go to Lisa, who worked tirelessly on the day, nothing was too much trouble, Lisa was there every step of the way throughout the day, we cannot thank her enough, from arriving early on the day, to let us in to the absolutely beautiful wedding preparation room, to ensuring that everything ran smoothly and to time, the Service, the Wedding Breakfast, Cake Cutting, The Evening buffet, Lisa had everything under control! She was even back to serve us Breakfast in the beautiful Lavender Barn the following morning.

The grounds are beautiful and the building itself is just charming. It really is a special location, tucked away where you would least expect it!
We received many compliments on the venue, staff and the Wedding Breakfast, being the best food guests had tasted at a Wedding. So our thanks must go to the Chef and Team too.

Thank you to everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes at The Old Rectory. Memories were made which will last a lifetime..quite simply one of the best days of my life…Lisa you are a star!

We held my Mum's wake here and it was so well prepared and set up for us. Nothing was too much trouble and we appreciated the space and attention to detail. The food was great and our own private bar certainly went down well. A fabulous set of buildings and we learned that Sunday lunches and afternoon teas can be arranged, alongside a wealth of novel stays on offer too!

I travel a lot for business and faceless hotels can get a bit much, so when I found Old Rectory House aka The Orangery I was delighted. I'm now back for my second stay.
A very friendly and efficient Lisa greeted us again on arrival, made sure we were happy with everything and offered to get us drinks from the bar.

This is a room only venue overnight, so we had the luxury of ordering a take out and a bottle of wine and whiling away the evening in the lovely dining room with its dark wood table, heavy drapes and gorgeous outlook. I would definitely consider this for an off-site planning day, overnight stays or a great location for a group of friends to escape for the weekend and have a place to yourself in awesome grounds.

It's not particularly well-marketed so it's a bit of a find really and has good availability as a result, and if you book direct with them then the rates are great.

I booked through booking.com. I paid £119 to include breakfast and also booked a table for an evening meal.
This was a surprise for my partners birthday.
We stayed in room 1. There is no view as claimed.
The breakfast was a small box of rice krispies, yogurt, pain au chicolat, orange and apple...not quite what we was expecting.
Trying to get hold of someone before arrival is near impossible!
Dinner was amazing as is the actual setting but the drinks are hugely overpriced.
After dinner and drink we went to our room for the evening. We had just fell asleep when the red siren in our room started going off. It's so loud! I ran downstairs to see what's happening to be told by bar man he didnt know why it went off but everything is ok.
Back to bed but pointless as you can hear EVERYTHING. The cocktail maker being shaken, laughing and talking. Then around 10.30ish loads of noise right outside our room. The door next to ours marked private I can only assume is some kind of storage as all sorts of banging and clanking can be heard. Then as the bar shuts down all the giggling and talking gets louder as people are either leaving or going to their rooms.
Overall I find the advertising to be misleading and overpriced for what you get.

Only booked on day we stayed. Rang to ask advice on room, receptionist was brilliant and took our booking. Easy to find, room great, staff friendly on check in. Booked dinner in hotel restaurant, all of the food was excellent, great produce, cooked really well. Delighted with standard, we did ask that the chef knew how impressed we were with the food. Had drink in bar, staff again excellent. Breakfast this morning was amazing, staff again exceptional and friendly, we both had granola with fruit and yogurt. I then had smoked salmon, scrambled eggs on sour dough, my husband had full English. Start to finish ‘full marks’ if you have any thoughts of going here do so. We will be staying again.

We had our wedding here on 5th November. It was good but could have been better. Promised a dressing room at time of booking as part of the package which would be ready for a wedding fair at end of October but found out day before it wasn’t ready only when asking if we could drop some thing in there the day before. There was no hot water from the taps so only the shower for the two days. We’re told we would be given a continental breakfast in the rooms on Saturday morning but never saw it. Not enough staff - Lisa was great on the whole , but seemed to be alone and stressed so felt bad asking for anything or checking anything.

Had been told as part of booking venue that restaurant was closed but bar was available on Friday before along with no cooked breakfast on Saturday which was fine. However on the Tuesday before, we called to enquire and told there were two wakes in the Friday and bar was not available but guests could go straight to their rooms. We had planned to meet guests and have a drink in the bar but this now was not an option. We’re told that we should have asked to book food but not given this as an option or would have booked it out! Ended up paying 100 just for the hire of a room plus the meals as we had not been given any info about friday evening plans and this became our only way to spend time with our guests.

Had raised concerns that we had been sold this as an exclusive venue and should anything change we would be informed. Instead we arrived to 80 well oiled people and discovered a pair “having a look” around to see what the rooms were like when my children were getting ready for bed but thankfully I was with them.

Totally appreciate venues need to make a profit particularly after Covid, but all of this could have been avoided with some simple communication which sadly did not happen. Would have happily booked an evening event for our small number of guests but this was not given as an option. Lots of “yes we do this all the time it will all be fine” but then find out things planned we’re not as expected or agreed. Impact was wedding photo plan went to pot as dressing room was not available and it was chaos with no hot water and central dressing room getting young bridesmaids ready and coordinating everything. Not to mention just an atmosphere after raising the dressing room issue a few days before along with not having space to meet guests which was resolved quickly, but at quite a cost.

Real shame, we had a great wedding in spite of these drawbacks but just a lingering feeling of disappointment. Good venue, but just double check everything that is promised is going to happen and that you have the full picture of what is happening on the days you book.

We had a family wedding to attend in between Christmas and New Year at the Old Rectory House. We weren’t disappointed, quite the opposite. The building is quirky and a wonderful venue for a smaller wedding. The staff were all amazing right from reception, bar and waiting staff both on the wedding day and at breakfast the morning after, everyone looked after us so well and attended to all our needs promptly and in a really friendly manner, nothing was too much trouble. The food served was really very good, both tasty and plentiful, we had the wedding breakfast, bacon rolls and chips served in the evening and buffet full English breakfast served the following morning, it was all delicious.
The day was amazing, ran smoothly and I can’t think of a single negative comment. I will be recommending to all, well done!

Overnight stay with my husband after a business trip. Hotel itself is lovely, quirky, nice decor and clean. Rooms comfortable. All of the staff were absolutely excellent, friendly and attentive. However the bar, whilst it stocks an impressive range of spirts, beer and some very nice quality wine is, in my view, on the heavy end in terms of price (on a par with a London hotels). Our evening meal in the Orangery was overall pretty disappointing. We had to send back a very bland and overcooked risotto and the replacement Fritto Misto was equally sub standard (we suspected it wasn’t freshly produced). This was a real shame as the dining room was a lovely setting, nice atmosphere and the Mediterranean theme menu seemed such a promise start. Breakfast however was a real contrast and was executed superbly! 3 point review as hotel room good value, staff were great but evening meal including drinks was £140 for two which has left us feeling a bit disappointed.

We held a 40th birthday party here, the room was perfect for a family gathering without worrying about our younger guest’s disturbing others diners as we had the place to ourselves. The private dining with 3 courses was spot on. The bartender was friendly and helpful with choosing which cocktails to suit my taste. (The Cheeky Tiki Colada was a favourite ❤️ )
The lady who greeted us on reception was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend. I’m sure we will be back soon.
Thanks all for amazing customer service and a welcoming experience.

This hotel had no one on the front desk at any time nor answering calls. We ended up sharing one bath towel, mo shower gel and unable to open the window!
At breakfast we were told that had run out of butter!!
Asked for a call back to discuss our concerns. We waited 3 days and then rang them!!
I was told an email had been sent which we never received instead of a personal call.
Given a reasonable refund but we should not have had to chase this if they want return business and customer satisfaction.
We understand they had 3 weddings to prepare for soon but it’s no excuse.
Will not be returning

Hi Nathan, yes we do have a bar, it is the room you walk through to enter the conservatory and breakfast bar. We are however just refurbishing it and work started on Monday so will have a very lovely Cocktail bar, lounge and Orangery opening in Early Spring so you should come back for another visit!
