We visited the swan for my husband’s birthday. The location was stunning & our room was good (attic). Due to the new COVID rules, the staff seemed tense, which is understandable. However, I overheard the manager speaking unkindly to his cleaner at one point. Also, when I queried a payment appearing to be ‘pending’ twice for the stay, I was spoken to in a very patronising way as if I didn’t understand the meaning of the word! Rude!

We have often eaten at The Swan, the food has always been very good and we have had no complaints. However, yesterday we sat down for lunch at an outside table. My husband chose chilli con carne and a jacket potato for me. The menu said that the chilli came with rice. My husband asked for half rice and half chips with the chilli (this being his choice with this dish and one that has always been granted at many establishments over a log time of eating out). However, the waiter went away and came back saying that this was not possible. My husband asked why but the waiter could only say that that was what he had been told. After a short consideration we cancelled our lunch, paid for our drinks and left. We cannot see why this should have been a problem, was it financial or a covid thing? Such a shame as The Swan has always been a place for us to go to during a day out.

Stopped here for one night and had a lovely time. Great position by the river and room had a great view. Rooms were immaculate and all the staff very efficient. Food menu was a a bit limited but everything was well cooked. Full English breakfast was one of the best I'd ever had! Would stay here again without doubt.
