Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Room not serviced but apparently that was my fault as ready for service sign is compulsory!. Never stayed in a hotel where that was the case in my life. Bar closed 10:30 Saturday, bar staff said sorry Sunday evening at 8:30pm as we walked in despite two people in the bar drinking. Plus points, friendly lady ex Essex behind the bar, large room but the bathroom is a disaster, water from the shower splashes and wets way out into the bathroom, light goes off, nowhere to put your sponge bag. The room service was semi corrected reluctantly, with throwing the duvet on the bed, clean cups and towels, clean glasses and an extra pack of biscuits. Avoid the place like the plague atrocious service.

Went for lunch. Both vegan options on the menu were not being served. I had a Mediterranean tart instead which I was assured was vegan but I was not convinced. The meal was adequate. Didn't like the "empty" chips. Probably won't go again. Disappointed. The building and the decor is lovely and the riverside situation is idyllic. Not a place for vegans to eat though.

Wonderful, the most pleasant, friendly and helpful staff you could ever meet. The room was spotless, beds comfortable and the room was lovely and warm despite the cold weather. Enjoyed breakfast but most of all everything we experienced was the opposite to the negative reviews that have been previously posted. Excellent choice of beers and lagers which were perfect contrary to some reports ! Coming from a Welsh town with it's own award winning ales (Felinfoel) my husband knows what he's talking about ! Debbie couldn't be more helpful and others were always available for advice such as the best place for a curry. Rooms were being updated and our next visit promises to be even better. Well done everyone and thank you.

Room Tip: No parking but we were lucky to find a couple of spaces on the street. Probably a problem in Summer.

My wife and I stayed at the Swan Hotel on Wednesday 13th September 2023. The hotel is attractively situated by the river, with plenty of outdoor seating on the river bank. Inside the hotel there is a feast of old wooden beams, many of which have been chalked on by visitors and visiting boat teams. There is a comfortable, friendly atmosphere and very helpful staff. We ate in the hotel restaurant where the prices were reasonable and the food and drink very good. Our room was spotless and comfortable, with a large smart TV, tea and coffee making facilities, complementary biscuits, and a modern bathroom. The area was quiet so there were no disturbances. Our room overlooked the river. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Swan Hotel again, and highly recommend it.

Stopped for lunch, 6.95 for a kids meal, and the plough mans was 13 i think, the kids meal had 5 chips!!! No joke, 3 skinny over cooked fish sticks, and literaly a table spoon of baked beans!!! The kids were starving when they had finished, my ploughmans was a warm small roll, 2 slices of ham a tiny salad, a slice of cheese and some picklesin a tiny bowl, outrageous meals too small, not enough food, staff were stroppy and unhelpful, in fact downright misserable! Will not return.

Awful older woman behind the bar let's the place down. Rude and surly. Shouldn't be in hospitality. Other staff fine but the older one is pretty unpleasant to deal with. Wouldn't return when she was working. Food is good but the service really lets it down.

We had pints of Wainwright Ale in this bar today 25/8/23 and when we went into the beer garden and tasted the beer it was sour. We took them back and politely informed the bar staff Rob and he said no its ok and its your fault if you dont like it. His attitude was shocking to say the least and as a party of 12 we will not be visiting this establishment again and would recommend anyone to avoid if you wanted good service and quality of products.

Arrived for a couple of drinks and food. 12 of us spread over 2 tables to order food, allowed 10 of us to order food, but told 2 people they had to wait 15 mins to order even though we were all on the same tables. So that means 10 of us will be eating and 2 having to wait for order and will be eating separately. The 2 people then went back in to order 15 minutes later to only be told to wait another 10 minutes. They had no other option to take their business elsewhere, and the rest of us wished we had to. This, along with a really grumpy lady behind the bar who loves to raise her voice at everyone. Yearly tradition to visit this pub but this would be the last time after todays experience.
