Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We had a family meal in the private dining room to celebrate a special birthday, with 9 adults and 4 children, and it was just first class from start to finish. The staff are exceptional, efficient friendly and attend to your every need. The food was of a very high standard and although a large party it was served piping hot. Just a superb family meal Highly recommend

Just a one night stay whilst visiting friends in the area. Clean and for the price well appointed en-suite room with a comfortable bed. Being a Saturday night we could not get a dinner in the hotel but if the excellent breakfast is anything to go by it would have been good! There was a wedding reception going on but despite our early night we were not disturbed.

From minute walking in staff friendly, above and beyond helpful. Even watching them going about working, little things like picking up bits rubbish in carpark as they walked into work. Personally shown to room but up some quite steep stairs but I overheard there was a lift somewhere. The room & bathroom was IMMACULATE! even the window frame/ledge, spotless! Bathroom mirror had integrated magnifying mirror, I'v never come across before. Teatray totally adequate and with decent sized cups. Plenty of accessible plug sockets but no usb sockets Slept very well, double glazing kept road noise out, although not to busy road. Very comfy bed, great pillows, no full length mirror but the mirror was positioned well to be able get full length view as well as sit and do makeup/hair & plug socket next to mirror, always a plus. Breakfast - Excellent, glad I upgraded to full cooked breakfast £8.50, great sausages(thou when rolled over looked uncooked, but bit into it, it was fine) one off best hotel sausages I've had by far! Big juicy mushrooms, bacon not crispy n brittle like most places and served with great coffee.  Overall Excellent stay 😍

Attended a family wedding at the hotel in July 2023. The food menu and choices for the wedding meal were outstanding. The service and attentiveness from staff was 5 star. The grounds were beautiful and we had a little visit from the resident peacocks! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Would highly recommend.

5 of us went for Sunday lunch. I had chicken and 3 had roast beef. These meal included loads of roast potatoes, duchess potatoes, Yorkshire pudding plus separate bowls of fresh veg including cauliflower, carrots, green beans and cabbage and lashings of gravy. All beautifully cooked, tasty and tender. Our other friend had cheese and onion pie, chunky home made chips and mushy peas. All meals hot and excellent value. Very good service and I believe the chef if called Mel so a shout out to the chef. Would recommend

I went to the restraunt with my family and we ordered the starters. The Nachos were nice but a bit cold. The black pudding stack was greasy with a lumpy sauce, and the pate had a lot of bread with little pate. When it comes to the mains we were very disappointed. We ordered 3 pepperoni pizzas that cost £10 each and they were burnt, greasy and cheap. The base was clearly a cheap supermarket base, the tomato sauce was thick and goopy, and there was way too much of it, and they put jalapenos on the pizzas eventhough we didn't ask for them. The service was good, and the waiters were nice but the food was disappointing.

Response from Lisa Holroyd, Owner at Grains Bar Hotel & Restaurant

I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy you meal yesterday. I have spoken to the Restaurant manager and also the waiting staff who remember asking you if everything was OK with your dinner. You replied 'Yes'. It would have been to make your complaint yesterday where we could have discussed the food, and rectified the issue. Hopefully satisfying your meal out. Our restaurant manger will give you a call on Wednesday to discuss rectifying the points you have raised.

Just got married here on 23rd June 2023! I will try and put into words how amazing it was, we had the most wonderful wedding day ever! Louise was outstanding and so down to earth and just went with our flow and vibe and was always on hand if we needed anything! Lisa the owner, you can absolutely tell she takes pride in her business but she also did our flowers which were absolutely exquisite, very talented! The staff were fantastic, many thanks to Stacey who kept me topped up all day and night and Nicola who is just amazing! Special thank you to Peter who also looked after our guests who had travelled from the USA, they mean a lot to us and you were so helpful as was Nicola! The grounds are beautiful, the renovations just add even more beauty to this hidden gem! All in all we can’t thank Lisa, Louise, Stacey, Nicola and Peter enough! We had the perfect wedding day, certainly a memorable one and you all contributed to that happening! Fantastic food also, wow! Afternoon tea was delicious, late night cheeseburgers and the most scrumptious breakfast the day after! We would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone who will listen!! Great job Grains Bar - You are amazing ❤️

stayed over after a wedding function in brief food lovely, rooms and bathroom great, the bedding and pillows were excellent staff mostly friendly (one sourpuss ) drink prices top end of reasonable, breakfast great quality served by great staff in a pleasant room. only negative is the room walls are thin meaning next door sound like they are in the same room even when not overly noisy. earplugs and a few drinks sorted that out lol oh and the carpark can fill up at times.
