I had the pleasure of dining with friends just before Christmas. There was a good selection of food which in every case was well cooked. Although there isn`t a alcohol licence you can take your own and there is not a corkage charge. The hotel provided the glasses and took care of serving the drinks. the service was very good, attentive but not intrusive. I thoroughly recommend the Wycliffe for a most pleasant experience and not expensive.

On arrival we were greeted by staff with a big welcome and shown to our table which was beautifully set out in a light and bright spacious dining area.
We found the staff to be friendly and courteous and keen to ensure that we enjoyed our experience there.
Nothing was too much trouble and as it was a special family(90th) birthday occasion they 'went the extra mile' by giving us special attention on what was clearly a busy day for them.
Wide choice of menu and excellently prepared and presented food which was of extremely high quality.
Hotel and restaurant beautifully furnished and cleanliness and hygiene standards are clearly a priority to the proprietors.
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience, would highly recommend to anyone !

Having never visited Stockport before, we were wary of staying in non-chain hotels.
What a surprise when we arrived at this one! The Wycliffe is- a family owned and run establishment of the highest quality.
The staff are more than friendly and courteous, highly knowledgeable and clearly enjoy what they do.
We ate in the restaurant and really enjoyed the very high quality food and service.
If you’re in Stockport overnight, this the THE place to stay.

The hotel website does not represent the hotel in its current state. The restaurant is permanently closed. The bar is also closed. The staff rotates between 2 very polite young men. The hotel is dated, and appears run down. At one point I think we were the only guests. Our room was actually okay, warm, clean, nice bedding and bath towels. The curtains had some hooks missing and the light near the kettle and over the bathroom mirror didn’t work. I asked for the management’s contact details and the young man said he wasn’t obliged to give them to me. He told me to leave a review on ‘booking.com’ and they’d see it there!!! I had tried calling the landline and emailing the hotel address but there’s no response. We’d only booked 2 nights and needed to be in this area otherwise we would have moved elsewhere. I feel like we’ve been mis-sold this stay as the website is totally inaccurate. I’ve since learned the hotel had been sold.

On arrival pleased to find good parking and we paid on arrival for a 2 night stay.
We were then horrified to discover that absolutely no food is now available. We especially rely on breakfast included in our bookings but there is no longer a restaurant in the hotel.
What we did learn is that in future we should always check more than a day in advance that our upcoming hotel still includes breakfast.
The very sad part is that having paid they absolutely refused to refund our money! So we left losing £200 and moved to another hotel providing included breakfast.

I’m afraid the Wycliffe Hotel has seen better days. Bed was reasonably comfortable, but the decor is very tired and the bedroom windows were dirty. TV worked ok and the shower also fine. Receptionist very nice. The worst thing about it was the continental breakfast which was very limited (no croissants or pastries) and virtually non existent fruit on our first morning. The bread was like cardboard and there was just one slice of processed cheese on our first morning. For over £100 a night, I’m confident there will be better options available locally. My guess is that the hotel won’t continue in the long term without some serious in investment, which will be a shame as it was apparently previously well regarded. We won’t be returning.

Yesterday, together with my family and friends I went to the Wycliffe Hotel for Sunday lunch to celebrate the above. From the moment we arrived the staff were on hand not only to take care of our coats but orders for drinks before our meal. The variety of choice on the menu was to everybody's delight. When the meal arrived it was perfect to the point there were only empty plates to take away when we had finished. I have to give credit to a young man named Callum who was in attendance throughout our visit and if anything was needed he made sure we received it. The Hotel and Restaurant continue to provide a first class service as it has done for many years.

We stayed here for one night when we visited for my God Daughters 18th and needed to be near the station the next day. It isn’t the type of hotel we would normally choose, but actually it was one of the best we have stayed in. Everyone there is so very friendly and helpful, very welcoming.
We had a ‘cosy double’ room and it was perfect for what we needed, absolutely spotless with every amenity. The bar area is very nice and again the people there were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us.
We had to leave early next day, but spot on 8am as if by magic all the staff appeared and breakfast was served very efficiently, the food was delicious, top quality ingredients and warm toast (which I find is very rare wherever you stay!). Would highly recommend this hotel

The hotel does NOT offer a full English breakfast, it is a very limited continental breakfast no ham or cheese which I was advised was due to no pork and no pastries as advised they were not being eaten. The rooms are ok but need updating. Please note this hotel is also under the Manchester flight path and next to a busy road. The staff were pleasant and you can walk into Stockport center. Free parking was good. I had Pizza in the restaurant which was also nice.

Stayed at this lovely hotel last night and cannot praise it enough. From the moment of arrival, was made to feel very welcome. The interior decor is very tasteful and the rooms were spotlessly clean. Our bedroom had every facility, tea, coffee, bottled water, biscuits, iron and ironing board, fan, toiletries.
We had evening meal in the beautiful dining room, served by very friendly and courteous waiters. The meal was delicious, washed down by a good bottle of wine.
We decided to have our coffee served in the bar area which was very relaxing, with good conversation with the young barman and the owner.
Breakfast was lovely, cooked to perfection. Will definitely stay again if we are in the area and would recommend it to anyone wanting a nice quiet well run hotel

Answer from wycliffehotel
Dear Traveller Thank you for your question. In terms of taxis from Manchester Airport I would personally recommend using a private company such as (Metro or Lynx) as opposed to the traditional British "black cabs" which are often much more expensive. It is difficult to give an exact figure but I would expect that a private firm would cost just over GBP 10.00. With regards to the train transportation, it is a little more tricky. As there is no direct train from Manchester Airport to Stockport you will need to go into Manchester Piccadilly and change - this journey can take about 30 - 40 minutes and typically costs between GBP 4 -8. Although it does cost a little more I would personally recommend a taxi as it usually only takes about 15 minutes. I do hope this helps, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. Kind Regards
