The Mercure Haydock Hotel is frequently celebrated for its welcoming atmosphere and relaxing vibe, enhanced by its beautifully adorned spaces. While guests commend the clean and spacious rooms, the service stands out with staff being noted as attentive and friendly. The hotel's location earns praise for its quiet yet convenient setting. However, some travelers have expressed dissatisfaction with additional charges, particularly for amenities like the pool and parking, questioning the overall value for money. Despite generally positive remarks about amenities and cleanliness, there are occasional mentions of noise disturbances and outdated room decor.

We have just had the best weekend staying at the Mercure Haydock Hotel. We went as a group booking with Bakers Dolphin coaches from Somerset. There were 42 people in our party visiting the Tatton Garden Show and RHS Bridgwater (both wonderful). On arrival the receptionists had check in down to a fine art, we all had rooms allocated within 10 mins of arrival. Great preparation (Marta had the perfect customer service). My friend and I wanted to swim, again Marta took the time to show where and how to access the pool. Dinner was sheduled for 7pm, again the dinning room staff were well prepared and the three course meal went like clockwork for 42 people! The meal was lovely. The bar and dinning room staff had excellent customer service too, thank you to Abi, Katie, Andy, Lucy Emily, and again Marta for making our stay so welcoming, we will return next year! from Colleen and Carol ( this was the feeling of all 42 people in our group). Not to mention they also had a wedding party to cope with at the same time. Great work to all staff!

We booked a last minute dinner, bed and breakfast deal with a free bottle of wine after looking at some reviews and pictures I was a little apprehensive.

Arriving at the hotel it looked lovely with a grand fountain at the entrance as we entered it looked modern and inviting.

We were checked in quickly and provided with all of the necessary information before making our way to our room.

The room was 108 and I was impressed at how spacious it felt and the entrance area with bathroom offered great storage and had an ironing board and dressing gowns inside the wardrobe.

We were in a privilege room so received two cans of Pepsi max, two cartons of OJ and a can of sparkling water and a can of still water as well as tea and coffee making facilities and a nespresso machine with two pods each.

There was a door leading into the bedroom area with a large very comfortable bed, large desk area and chair and table.

The bathroom was minimal with an over bath shower. The shower leaked and left a huge amount of water between the bath and toilet so this was reported to reception.
When the taps were turned on a loud vibration noise could be heard which woke me up the following morning when my husband used the tap.

Complimentary toiletries were in the bathroom as well as shower caps and plenty of towels.

A hairdryer was also available to use.

The bed was comfortable and we had a very peaceful sleep!!!

We had a two course meal included with our stay but disappointingly the restaurant was not open. There were two members of staff working the bar and we had a table reserved in the brasserie which was just off the bar and we were not shown to our table just advised to select a table with reserved on it. No menus were provided so my husband went to the bar to ask if it was table service and for a menu and was told it was the same menu as in the bar and someone would be over shortly.

We were waiting several minutes to be acknowledged and the table service was not great but that was nothing compared with the food.

The starters were good I opted for the Thai fish cakes which were delicious and my husband had the Chinese Squid which was tasty.

The main course however was very disappointing. I ordered the Korean chicken burger which was hard and dry and absolutely tasteless. My husband had a beef burger which was tiny and we both agreed the best part of the meal were the frozen chips that had been cooked perfectly.

The food was not in line with the pricing and I did not feel that it represented value for money at all.

We asked for a wine menu and was told that there wasn’t one and had to order a bottle of wine without knowing the price.

This could have been a brilliant stay but sad to say that the dining experience let it down.

The following morning the breakfast was served in the restaurant and was delicious, the staff member Julie literally didn’t stop the entire time, helping guests with requests, clearing tables and restocking items whilst her colleague appeared to be standing around and did not engage with guests.

Overall this could be an amazing stay but the guests need to be the main focus for staff and that did not come across in the evening.

I’ve lost count how many times we’ve stayed here… but it’s very convenient off the M6 between London and Glasgow.
First time here was with a 6 week old baby and now he is 13 months. The staff are lovely and friendly. So helpful and kind. We enjoy chatting with them.
It’s a nice entrance area and bar to have a drink in the evening. The restaurant is a little dated but anytime we’ve had breakfast it’s had everything we like to set us up for the day/ drive ahead. We now take porridge pots/ croissant and bananas to save money. (Maternity leave pay so on a budget!) we just eat our own breakfast in the morning then use the pool to tire out our 13 month old.

The rooms are great and spacious as you bring so much baby stuff. Originally as a newborn he slept in his pram carry cot and now he is sleeping in their travel cot. Or in with us as the bed is big enough for 3.
Bed always comfy and I have a great sleep every time.
The bathroom is dated but I’ve never had a problem with the shower over tub. (Handy for bathing baby too) the main thing is it’s clean and I don’t mind it being a bit dated.
Still provides a good wash all the same. Ladies just bring your own hair conditioner as it’s not provided. Shampoo and body wash is.
Kettle/ tea / coffee in the room. Easy to warm up pouches of baby food.

The pool is fab- not cold for baby. Hot tub lovely and warm, sauna and steam room super. I look forward to staying here because we love the pool facilities.
They have toddler swimming lesson and the kids all happy.

Free parking.

I have no complaints about this place. Just complements. It’s a good price for a quick overnight when doing long drives with baby.

My husband and i ive locally and every Sunday we check in to a local hotel for the night, we usually choose a hotel that has a pool and have a date afternoon and night.

On approaching the property we noticed signs that parking costs were applicable, this was not made clear prior to booking on the website .. £10 is expensive for an overnight paying guest in my opinion.

We asked about the pool at reception and was informed that was also payable at £10 per person ... also not made clear on the website.

We just wont stay here again hidden charges notified upon check in.is not acceptable when payments are taken in advance and non refundable.

Mercure St helens do not charge for parking or the use of there pool so that will be our preferred choice going forward

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review, I am sorry for any disappointment caused. The charges for the car park have been in place for almost five years now and are explained on all booking channels, the charges for the pool have been introduced this year and have also been listed on all booking channels. I am afraid that these charges will remain and are now something that many hotels are doing. The £10 charge allows access to the pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and includes a complimentary towel. I hope we are able to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future. Kind Regards Steven Hayes General Manager

We didn’t get off to a good start as when we arrived at 22.30 with 2 children (prepaid) we were told they had overbooked and there were no family rooms available. The first solution was for the children to sleep on mattresses on the floor, the second was for us to find another hotel. A room was eventually found, this was right next to a wedding marquee and the music was very loud until 12pm. None of us could get to sleep due to this. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. The pool was an additional £10 for 1 adult and 2 children, we weren’t expecting this- probably in the small print. The breakfast was disappointing. We have actually stayed here a few times previously but sadly our experience this time has put us off ever returning. From looking as recent reviews, the issues we experienced are a regular occurrence which aren’t being addressed.

We stayed at the hotel with over 30 of our clients, suppliers and staff for our company's 25th anniversary Race Day. From start to finish the Mercure were very accommodating with our unusual requests (including bringing in our own piano for the night). The team all contributed to a memorable event and we plan to do something similar in the future.

Really nice to find a hotel which is properly dog friendly and good value! We stayed here overnight whilst visiting relatives in Ashton with our dog, and although dogs are not allowed in the restaurant (reasonably enough), the staff set us up a table in the bar area just by the restaurant entrance where we could sit together with our pooch - and they were also happy to bring us things rather than us ferry in and out, which was very kind (I am partially disabled). Everyone was very welcoming both to us and our dog, our room (which was an accessible one) was huge and also had a properly equipped wetroom which was another boon, and the price overall was good value even though there was a £15 pet surcharge. Very happy indeed and we will definitely be back!

Can’t fault the hospitality of all the hotel staff as they were all very helpful and friendly, a big shout out to Michelle at reception she was very helpful and professional with an enquiry and put us at ease immediately and Andi was also very attentive and helpful when we dined in the hotel restaurant both nights. The beds are very comfortable and rooms are spotless the bathrooms look a bit tired but are very clean so that’s the most important thing tbh. The only negative is that you have to pay for the pool and for the 3 of us it was £30 we arrived late so we only had 1hr before the pool closed which we were informed of, not all the facilities where working as the hot tub was out of order and we were being rushed out 20mins before the pool closed even when we where in the changing rooms and had 10 mins left we were being made aware that the pool was closing by the member of staff coming in, I understand having worked in hospitality that near the end of your shift you want to go but the constant negative looks over and being reminded of the time didn’t make the pool a relaxing experience.

The website is misleading and uninformative. The website does not warn that there is no lift available despite probably 100 rooms being on the second floor. Iit says that European and British cuisine is served in Beechers Restaurant. The restaurant is only open for breakfasts and the European and British cuisine is a bar menu.
The suite was very clean and well equipped although the heating seemed to have a mind of its own.
The staff are courteous and helpful especially Lydia who looked after us very well for dinner on our first evening.

Beware if you want early check in. The website says if you order this, the room is available from 10am. I phoned the day before to enquire if we could use the spa from 10am and use of the room. We were told that early check in is only if the room is available and so not guaranteed. We arrived at 12:30 and the room was not available albeit the receptionist did then sort it. Needless to say the system charged the £ 20 as it was in the booking but again the receptionist helped by taking off the £ 10 / per day parking.

Fruit, cereal, yogurt, full English. Not the best I’ve had in a hotel though, as all cheap catering food, carton juice and yogurt. If you stay for an evening meal I wouldn’t bother it’s awful, best off eating out!
