This must be our 11th maybe 12th visit to Helsbury, we have always stayed in the farm house but this time stayed in Westheys, it’s a lovely property, spotlessly clean, well equipped with 3 good sized bedrooms all with en-suites. We have always brought our 2 Westies with us (now 13 & 15y old) and also two children (8 & 11) we have been lucky enough to visit Helsbury once sometimes twice a year and seen the 4 of them grow up. The facilities on site are fantastic, you can walk for miles and miles. Then spend the afternoon around the swimming pool. Helsbury is located well and there is some lovely beach’s within 10 miles, Trebarwith Stand is our favourite, along with Polzeath. Our only small gripe now is the farmhouse appears to have been rented out on a long term and is unavailable for holiday bookings, which is a shame as it’s such a signature property.…
Our second visit to Helsbury Park and it was just as good as our first. A beautiful cottage with fantastic views. The pool was very popular with my children and we used it a lot as the weather was a bit hit and miss. The walks for the dogs straight from the cottage are great they have so much freedom. Our favourite beach was Crantock Beach which is about 40 mins from Helsbury Park. Looking forward to our next visit 🥰
My husband and I took our 4 dogs to Helsbury Park on holiday in November 2021. Because of the pandemic, it was our first holiday in almost two years and it did not disappoint! We stayed at Marhayes and absolutely loved every minute of our stay. Marhayes is a converted barn. It has underfloor heating, a wood-burning fire, open plan kitchen/dining/living area with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the wonderful views, all bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and there is a downstairs bathroom near the entrance of the property with a bath - great for relaxing in with a glass of wine but also handy to shower down the dogs after a day at the beach before they go further into the house! Marhayes has everything we could need - smart tv with Netflix, all kitchen utensils for cooking etc, dog bowls, welly tray and utility room. The true selling point to this property though is the land that it sits on and the facilities. There is an indoor swimming pool with a sauna and gym. The pool is huge and has panoramic windows overlooking the 100 acres of land the property sits on. It is for the sole use of the guests staying at Helsbury Park, so when we used the pool we were the only ones there and had the whole thing to ourselves. The best part of Helsbury Park though is the 100 acres of private land it sits on. There are fields, pastures, hills, woodland, a stream and a small pond - all for guests’ exclusive use. Our dogs loved walks on the land and we even spent one whole day of our holiday just walking the land for three hours. Our dogs were exhausted afterwards and slept all night! Helsbury Park is a true gem for anyone wanting comfort and luxury but also wanting their dogs to have a great holiday too. It has everything you could want for a self catering holiday for yourself and your dogs. It also doesn’t have a limit on how many dogs you want to take - another rarity. As someone who has always had 3+ dogs, it can be harder to find properties willing to allow more than 2 or 3 dogs maximum to stay. It was a little more expensive than other properties, but absolutely worth every penny given how special it is. Other properties do not offer what it does and I firmly believe you get what you pay for. I will absolutely return to Helsbury Park again and I urge anyone who likes holidaying with their dogs to plan a trip there asap. You won’t regret it!…
As previous reviewers have said, this place redefines “dog friendly” and makes others seem just dog-tolerant. The accommodation is a high standard on in its own right, well furnished and decorated, even if you don’t have dogs. However the huge parkland is fantastic, particularly for large energetic dogs like ours. We’ll located for all of the areas worth visiting in Cornwall, it makes a great base, but it was sometimes hard to justify leaving to go out.
Our 3rd visit to Helsbury Park and a fantastic stay in The Farmhouse. We immediately relaxed in the beautiful surroundings and our children were in the pool within a couple of hours after arriving! The house was spotless and we had everything we needed in the property, the views from the house are breathtaking especially on a clear morning watching the sunrise. Our dogs enjoyed the walks every day from the house and the paddling in the river. Ideal location to explore North Cornwall, Crantock Beach still our favourite. We can’t wait for our next visit!!!
We had such a lovely stay at this very dog friendly property. There are 2 spacious cottages & a house available for weekly holiday rent (we stayed at Marhayes). They exclusively share the onsite indoor heated swimming pool, sauna and gym that is set sympathetically into the hillside overlooking the vast grounds which were formerly farmland, but have now been allowed to return back to nature. The property has its very own expansive river frontage, bluebell woodlands, marshland and fields to explore. Our four-legged friends loved it. The cottage was spacious, well heated, clean and comfortable with dog friendly flooring and easy to close stair gates to stop them venturing upstairs. The boiler room served well as a drying room for wet towels & boots (we had lots of rain) and there was a plentiful supply of wood for the homely log burner. Cleverly, the dining table is also a pool table. The grounds were beautifully maintained with mowed pathways to follow and well weeded flower beds and moss & fern laden living walls, so typical of this area. One day, I’d love to go back and stay a bit longer, it was definitely very me!…
An amazing place for all the family. The grounds and facilities are fantastic. Not many places are happy to accept 5 dogs but Helsbury Park is so dog friendly and the walks from the doorstep are perfect. The accomodation (we have stayed in the Famhouse & Marhayes) is very comfortable and the kitchens are very well equipped. So many places to visit close by and a short drive to beaches. We will definitely return.
Travelling with 4 dogs is always a challenge but the unlimited dogs approach is true to its word. The weather was awful during our stay but the gym, swimming pool, table tennis, numerous board games and jigsaws kept us entertained. Great dog walking from the door. Large bedrooms all with ensuites ensures everyone had privacy and enough crockery to ensure we didnt have to wash up every 5 minutes.... one of my pet hates with holiday accommodation is the minimum amount of everything but that's not the case here. We hope to visit again
Fabulous Home from Home at Marhayes! Another wonderfully relaxing stay at Marhayes and as always the cottage was spotless. We noticed some new touches which just add to the comfort and country style of this lovely place. It was really helpful to be able to park so close to the back of the property and we appreciated being able to get such excellent WiFi in the cottage now. The dog loved the walks to the river and woods every day and even when the weather was unkind we had a fantastic time in the pool which would not be out of place in a top hotel. After 35 years of visiting Cornwall I do not believe there is better dog-friendly accommodation then Helsbury Park. Very special indeed!
We’ve been coming to Helsbury Park on and off for many years. Sadly we walked into what can best be described as a damp and dank smell in the bedrooms which, over the subsequent days got worse eventually smelling like a public toilet. There’s obviously an issue as a dehumidifier was at full pelt on arrival and we had to empty this several times a day. What I can’t understand is, if there’s an issue -take the house out of action and rectify! Better than a bad review. This is a well meaning and constructive plea! Sort out Marhayes - the kitchen is also tired and obviously the damp etc needs sorting. We LOVE the grounds, the views and pool - although whoever refilled the pool shower tiling needs to go to Specsavers as it’s poor, and when you swim you can see wrappers and dust under the sofas. Let’s return to the days when it REALLY WAS the stunning 5 star worthy holiday rental it was!…
