We had a really disappointing visit to your pub on Thursday 21st September. We were booked in at 7pm and the pub was pretty busy when we first arrived but it seemed to have calmed down by the time we ordered. Starters were great. We both had blanchbait. It was tasty, hot and came with lovely bread and butter and a dressed salad. Then the main courses came. My husbands plaice was ok, cooked well but the accompanying vegetables were unedible - overcooked, hard and tasteless. Didn't really seem to go with a fresh fish dish. My chicken caesar salad was an absolute joke. I can only imagine your chef has never seen one before! It consisted of a few salad leaves completely smothered in pieces of hard, dry, tasteless chicken which had been mixed with mayonnaise straight out of a jar. I chose extra bacon and this came in the form of 4 overcooked rashers cut in half and put on the side of the plate. Needless to say I took a few bites and quickly realised I wasn't going to be able to eat any of it. No-one checked if we were enjoying our meal and I was in full view of the blonde lady behind the bar for a good 15 minutes and she could clearly see I wasn't eating but she did nothing. When the waitress finally came over she apologised and said she would take the charge off the bill. What was even worse than the food in my mind was the fact that I asked our waitress a question about a dish on the specials board before we ordered. A very simple query I thought, about the cajun salmon and prawns. She didn't know the answer so went to ask the chef. She came back and said she couldn't get an answer because the chef was too busy and she was too scared to ask again because she didn't want to get shouted at. What!!! If your chefs are that stressed you need to seriously sort out their working environment and your poor staff, working in fear of being shouted at. Unfortunately this was our 2nd bad experience at the Halzephron so we won't be visiting again. …

We came here for lunch a few years ago and had a brilliant experience, great food, friendly and speedy service. Came today 10/09/23 and sadly …. Very speedy service but the meal very disappointing, unpleasant taste to roast vegetables Yorkshire pudding a bit rubbery. Maybe short on kitchen staff or chef having an off day. However, in fairness to proprietors they did give a 50% reduction on our meal. Good point was celeriac.

Food was good and nice selection to choose from. Unfortunately service was poor, with a long wait for food order and empty glasses left on table for a long time.. we ended putting them to the side on the floor. Ridiculous seating plan (very cramped) with dusty branches on roof and mouldy walls. Shame as this used to be one of our favourite pubs to visit but won’t return in a hurry.

We booked a table at the last minute because we couldn’t get in at the pub by our hotel and I’m really glad we went. The service was fantastic. Despite being busy the food came out quickly and the food was outstanding and there was plenty of choice. Would highly recommend the steak and ale pie! Make sure you leave room for pudding because they’re incredible. Looking forward to coming back soon. The staff are all friendly and welcoming with a great sense of humour!

Love this pub. Beautiful food and very dog friendly - even a jar of biscuits for them on the bar! and a great thirst quenching stop on the SW Coastal Path. Very small but perfectly formed. Love sitting out on the benches in the summer, looking out over the fields to the sea.

Perfection. Firstly, the food. Top quality food. I’ve been here several times with my wife and dog, and friends also. The food is amazing. Top quality and they don’t skimp on portions either. The staff. Always friendly, make a fuss of our dog and give her treats. Always make us feel welcome and a nice chat too. Never a single complaint, and will always be a regular here. You guys are incredible and we’ll be back again and again.

This pub never disappoints. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, conversation is king, no musak or flashing lights from one armed bandits. Had a wonderful meal Christmas eve with Mushroom and Chesnut pie. This time it was the vegetable crumble -recommended. Enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding -both very moreish. Lovely selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Will return

Their web page says best to book in advance. We tried many times but could not get through so we called in on the off chance. Were given the choice of inside or out. Had a nice meal sitting outside. Only have one complaint, the staff did not seem very concerned whether we enjoyed the meal or anything. We have been to Cornwall many, many times in the last 47 years and this was probably be the least welcome we have felt in all the places we have eaten. May have been an off day, however the meal was good.

Great destination when walking on the coastal path. Menu had a range of choices and a specials menu was available. Good choice of drinks available and friendly staff. We sat outside in the sunshine and watched the tractors going up and down the road. We had a very enjoyable lunch and then took a walk to the lovely pebble beach. We would recommend this lovely friendly pub.

On the minor road from Gunwalloe south toward Church Cove, this pub is exactly right for all sorts of passing trade, with a car park and overflow into a neighbouring field. The range of beers and other drinks is straightfoward but good quality. The warm and pleasant interior has a long specials board for food, and an extensive standadrd menu too. These range from light snacks to substantial meals and those we sampled were certainly tasty and fresh. There is a paticular focus on seafood. Prices are competitive. Woth stopping by if you're in the area.
