Staying in B&B and this inn was recommended to us - we ate here on 2 out of 3 nights (ie we returned!) We tried the special 'Star gazey fish pie' - wow, order it if you like fresh fish pie and it is on the menu... Took all C19 precautions throughout inn and dining areas, great service in an authentic local inn.
We visited the pub whilst on holiday . We booked a table a few weeks before . The first thing I’d say is the welcome was lukewarm at best from the waitress , we were sat by the bar so busy thoroughfare and sat next to locals drinking . She sprayed the table as a local had to vacate our table but not the seat he’d put his hands all over . We also had to push our table away a little as it was far too close to the next table . The menus were tatty dirty old ones that even the cover was curling up considering we are in the middle of a pandemic I was not reassured at all and I watched the waitress just put them back in the same Perspex menu holder without spraying them and giving them to the very next customer ! I felt she was Not Covid aware !! The food was average at best my husband liked his steak but my daughter and I had fish which was so greasy . Both of us felt unwell later that evening . The gentleman behind the bar was friendly enough but the waitress wasn’t and didn’t make us feel welcome at all . I asked for something for my son they accommodated it but made me feel I was being a pain . When everywhere else we went people were falling over themselves to help. It seemed busy though so maybe we were just unlucky .…
A warm welcome from the staff. Very dog friendly. Food was excellent, so good out a a weeks break, we ended up using it five times. If in the area, well worth dropping in. Try the Steak and ale pie, also the fish and chips.
Both of our sea bass came out on the plate raw in the middle. The curry was watery with little flavour and barely any chilli on the vegan chilli just a load of cheap tortilla chips. We were disappointed to say the least.
Tried ths place for lunch yesterday after reading reviews and we were very pleasantly surprised to find such an extensive menu in these challenging times for hospitality. Everything is properly home cooked but with a chef's skill - the skate in particular was outstanding, so fresh and perfectly balanced with the caper butter. Staff were relaxed and welcoming and there is a very reassuring C-19 protocol, including a clever one way system around the pub, lots of sanitiser stations and one in/one out rule for the loo. Pub was packed when we left so clearly very popular despite being tucked away and no wonder! Looking forward to returning.
