We visited for 4 nights in July 2020. We had a family room in the new part of the hotel. The room was of standard premier inn layout.

As a regular user of premier inns the only real difference we noted was that....

1. No staff enter the room once u check in.

2. If you need towels or extra pillows ask reception and they will give u a bag with them in.

3. Once u have finished with towels or your rubbish bin is full just bag it up and put it outside the room.

All in all a very good stay.

The BIG let down is the WiFi. With children who love a bit of iPad time before bed, after a long day out we paid for the ultimate wifi.

Well to say this was intermittent was an understatement. We had trouble logging on, it would log u out without warning all in all don’t bother paying for the extra WiFi.

When we spoke to the staff on reception they said they had many many complaints since the WiFi supplier was changed. Come on #premierinn change the supplier.

The room was clean and beds comfortable, lovely powerful shower and nice bath. There wasn't any cleaner coming in due to Covid, this was better at this present time as I wouldn't of wanted different cleaners coming into our room at this present time. However we put our bin outside the room if it needed emptying and also were able to ask for clean towels etc.

Breakfast and Meals at The Maytree needed to be booked in advance, which we were made aware of before our stay and did book all our breakfasts in advance. The breakfast and the couple of evening meals we had were all very good and the breakfast filled you up until the evening.

Helston Premier inn was a good base for us to visit near by towns in Cornwall Penzance, St Ives, St Austell and Truo were all a short drive away, Very close by is Flambards and the Seal Sanctury is worth a visit.

We would definately stay in another Premier Inn.

I’ve stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions, usually visiting relatives for Christmas, it’s always been a great value, super venue, and that has not changed. But I guess the commercial ravages of 2020 have taken their toll on the hospitality businesses. I stayed on Christmas night.

They were happy to check me in at 11.00am in the morning, not the usual 2pm advice. Screens at reception, sanitiser freely available, one way system in and out. No free sweets on the reception desk? Sign of the times.

Let me say that the sleep experience is still the same, brilliant beds and cosy bedding, but I did notice some paring back of the experience.

Only two sachets of coffee in the room, there used to be a whole handful, (although I think if you ask at reception, they will provide more) additional pillows, which I loved, have been removed, the character sofa has gone, replaced by a single chair. I only stayed one night, but I imagine if one stayed for longer, don’t expect room cleaning. I wouldn’t.

The pub next door was however still open, The May Tree, Cornwall moving into Tier 2 from Boxing Day, they were over 2/3rds down on Christmas Day bookings vs LY.

I was in Room 110, which is at the front of the hotel overlooking the car park. When I got back to my room mid evening on Christmas Day, there were just 9 cars in the car park, 1 was mine. How depressing. The pub was shut. No noise issues then!

But, they keep great standards, still plenty of plug points, the heating system kicked in to make it cosy after about 1/2 hour, easy to operate, and the cleanliness of the room and bathroom were great.

Free view telly channels all where they should be, but maybe a battery change in the remote control is about due in this room. And the free Wi-fi drops in and out regularly, it’s a low data service, don’t expect to transact anymore that a few calls and texts. I wouldn’t expect to have to upgrade to a Premium paid Wi-fi these days.

Just a little more soulless than a normal stay...

I am really hoping that Premier Inn as a (Whitbread?) group, who I know are looking for rent relief from the Government/property landlords, I do hope they get what they need to keep going.

Breakfast was available at the May Tree, needed to be booked. £8.95 pp I think, I was heading back to my rellies, but a chocolate bar (new resolutions don’t kick in until 1.1.21) from the vending machine in reception did the job in the meantime.

I now live in Cornwall, yes, great plan of mine to move house in a pandemic year, with the worst December weather ever 🤨 But I worry about all the other amazing Premier Inns in lockdown Tiers, who can’t open, or can’t make it economically viable to open.

I am hoping to post another review for The Premier Inn, Helston, this time next year. Hoping that they, and all of us, have a better 2021.

Sandy

I’m gutted to write such a negative review following possibly one of the friendliest welcomes I’ve ever received from the chap on reception who checked me in, however this hotel is let down hugely by their evening staff, WiFi and maintenance. A bulb was blown in my room on check-in which (to be fair) reception resolved efficiently. However, on my first night I had to endure thumping bass lines all through the night, assuming it was coming from another guests tv. I complained to reception in the morning and a manager told me that this was in fact the reception music and that staff have been repeatedly told to switch this off at 10pm, even showing me the post it reminder stuck to the reception PC. One night later I find myself trying to get to sleep again, 10pm comes and goes with the same playlist playing as the night before. This was only switched off once I called the hotel via their external number to ask them to switch it off as no room phone is provided despite the hotel location being advertised as having intermittent mobile signal. As a business user, the ‘good night guarantee’ is useless and provides no motive for premier inn to meet the needs of business travellers as the threat of refund doesn’t provide any recourse for employees impacted. Another issue throughout my stay (and a significant number of other reviews online) is the lack of WiFi connectivity which either wont connect or repeatedly drops out - despite my room being located directly above reception! There is a long history of Guest Relations responding to negative reviews saying that the issue will be raised/that a WiFi provider change will ease the problem but clearly these have had no effect. Currently the hotel pub is all closed owing to COVID (fair enough), however no breakfast alternative is offered by the hotel and their vending machine is broken so you can’t even get a bottle of water. Couple this with the loud corridors due to there being only a few internal doors and the usual problem of locked windows forcing you to use the dehydrating air con for ‘environmental reasons’ you’ve got the perfect storm for an uncomfortable business stay. Unfortunately despite its pretty exterior, the Premier Inn Helston falls far behind its peers.

We stayed here in a family room for four nights and it's a perfect base for touring south Cornwall. Our family room was large and spotless, the beds comfortable and considering it was peak season the hotel was very quiet. The staff are the real highlight, friendly and welcoming with tips of where to go on days out with great local knowledge.

Covid regulations have changed the way hotels work but the staff went through things in detail on check in. Rooms wouldn't be serviced but if you needed the bin clearing or fresh towels just to leave them outside your room. Our bin was returned empty each time. If we needed anything else we just asked the excellent reception staff and it was provided with a smile.

It was disappointing to see some guests giving the staff a hard time about the new regulations and they're typically out in force on Trip Advisor.

This one of several hotels we stayed in this trip and was without doubt the cleanest and felt the safest place we stayed in.

Don't let the moaners put you off! Premier Inn is a no frills chain but they deliver to a high standard. Some people will always find something to complain about!

Staff at the premises couldn’t do enough to help during our stay, from updates on latest COVID procedures, extra bedding, where local attractions were etc. Also, we booked and paid full price on the evening of 2 August for our breakfasts the following morning. The ‘eat for 50% less’ came in force on 3 August and they refunded the difference with no issues, everywhere lovely and clean and COVID measures clearly in place and easy to understand, many thanks for making our stay enjoyable

Stayed for 2 nights for an event involving a lot of old friends. We ate in the restaurant both nights and were exceptionally well looked after by the restaurant manager, Victoria Fraser, and her team. Nothing fazed them!
The chef showed a real interest in meeting guest needs and the food was good and reasonable value.
As ever, the accommodation was clean, comfortable and reasonably equipped
On the other hand, breakfast was not of the same quality as at other Premier Inns in which we have stayed. In particular fruit salad was disappointing; mostly large chunks of apple, the only milk was semi-skimmed etc.

The location was very convenient, especially when we are exploring Cornwall, visiting different places daily. The room is standard and basic, however, we have noticed a lot of stain on the duvet covers. The wi-fi was extremely slow, and there is limited telephone reception at the hotel. We upgraded our wi-fi to premium which is supposed to be 8 times faster, but we couldn't even send a file, so we asked for a refund.

I recently visited your Lympsham hotel in Weston Supermare while on our way down to Cornwall. Your staff here were polite and helpful.

We then travelled to your Helston hotel, we had booked 2 rooms. When we arrived at the hotel we were told only one room was ready so we had to wait. We were given no apology for it not being ready. My husband had to wait 2 and half hours for his room, In the meantime my husband asked when it would be ready. They told him just to wait, he is 69 years old and was very tired from the drive down. While he was waiting other people were coming in and asking for rooms and they only waited about 10mins. My husband then saw the cleaner and the cleaner said his room was next, they only cleaned it for 10 minutes. As a cleaner myself I know it takes longer than 10 mins for a deep clean. I know with the current Covid 19 situation things are harder but there is no need for your staff to be so rude. We were made to feel like it was our fault for the current situation. You need to train your staff in how to treat customers because this was totally unacceptable. We stayed at the Maytree in Helston from the 8/8/20 until the 15/8/20. The least I expect is an apology. I have tried to send you a direct complaint but none of your email addresses work. Please can somebody get back to me about this complaint!

A great comfortable bed in a quiet location.
No room service at all so after a few days the bin was overflowing and we’d ran out of towels and toilet roll.
The second bed was not made on arrival so we had to go and ask for sheets and then make the bed ourselves as due to Covid no one could then enter the room.
We paid £5 for the premium WiFi but shouldn’t have bothered as it offered the same level of service as the free WiFi and was slow and endlessly disconnected. This felt like a bit of a con to be fair.
There is no signal at all at the hotel and it’s not that I can’t live without my phone and have it glued to my hand but with an autistic child in tow it is important for us to stay connected.
We had an issue one night where emergency sanitary products were required. None available at reception or in the neighbouring pub. Staff not very helpful and told us to go to Sainsburys - unhelpful and not sure they understood the urgency.
The bathroom was clean but covered in black mould.
Not the friendliest check in and staff don’t acknowledge you to smile or say hello as you enter and exit the hotel - have had much warmer welcomes in all other Premier Inn hotels.
Recommended due to peaceful nights sleep and nothing else.
