Detailed Reviews
Just back from a 4 night stay. We were struggling to find a campsite due to the situation at the moment (seems like everyone has gone camping mad now sites are re-opening and sooo many rules with social distancing and whatever.) Anyway, Chy Carne had one available pitch left so we snapped it up. Then read the reviews! There are a lot of negative reviews about this site, so we were slightly worried, but with camping sometimes it's pot luck and you have to make the best of it. Off we went with our positive attitude ready for anything! Well after a 6 hour drive and some hairy moments along narrow lanes and very steep hills with our trailer in tow we finally found the site. Booked in at reception and spoke to lovely young girl who gave us our pitch no. and a site map. Driving round the site (it's a very big site) to find our pitch, first thoughts were....oh no...it's too big a slope to pitch on and tents are practically on top of each other. I may have shed a little tear if our pitch was on that slope but thankfully it wasn't. Ours was on a little corner at the top of the slope with only one other tent pitched there. Slight slope but still not a bad pitch for us. So the site itself is a well maintained family site, geared towards group bookings i would say. Firepits galore, but noise levels low (this would probably be a different case if their marquee inn and food shack were open, but they are closed at the moment). Plenty of toilets and showers which were cleaned morning and night. Yes you have to pay for the showers, so take plenty of change. I found one 50p was enough for a normal shower and £1 would see me through washing my hair (they don't take £1 coins by the way). The location for us was great..Lizard point is about 2.5 miles away and well worth a visit ( best fish & chips ever!) and Kynance Cove up the road is a must! The walk to Kennack sands takes about 10mins down a very steep hill or you can drive and pay £4 on the beach car park. About half way down is caravan site (sea acres) that has a Nisa shop which we popped in to a few times and found very handy. Overall the site is good, and the negative comments are mostly unjustified (can't comment on anything to do with the caravans). Probably recommend ringing to book for a pitch at the top or bottom end of the site unless you don't mind getting cosy with your neighbours! We had a lovely few days at Chy Carne and so glad we took the risk booking a site we weren't familiar with.

Great location, only a 10 minute walk from the beach and about 15 min drive to Lizard Point and 20 mins from Helston (and the seal sanctuary) Pitch was clean and ready for us, the electrics worked no problem, and the fire pit was nice. Nice campsite neighbours too.
Our pitch was moved, we were told this was due to electrics but when we looked there were other people on the pitch we had booked? Not actually a problem as, to be fair, I think we ended up in a better spot. It was massive, we had our own bench and we could see the sea!
Showers were nice and hot, to the people who complain about 50p for 5 minutes, it is plenty enough, you are showering on a campsite, you aren’t in a spa! I do wish there had been a shelf for your shower stuff etc though, and a mop to use to clean the floor.
Sadly, I don’t think the site is Covid safe, as yes there is hand gel and signs up asking to wear face masks, but the toilets and showers are confined spaces, and people are tooth brushing into the sinks.
Bins were gross, I must admit, but we were camped away from them. Also, they are bins. Bins are, by their very nature, gross.
There was quite a lot of loud music coming from (I think) the neighbouring field but people are on holiday, let them have fun, get some ear plugs, or ask for your pitch to be moved further away as the sound does carry.
We would stay here again, the price and location was good, it’s a basic site, just needs a bit of a polish on the hygiene side.

We were occupying both pitch 47& 48 as we were a group of two families. These pitches are on quite a slope. Which was a bit of a pain as everything in the tent slid downwards if we do visit again we would avoid these pitches and will try to get a more level pitch as there were quite a few around the site
The park we felt had a great atmosphere. Music/ noise did not continue past 10-11 pm.
After reading previous reviews I was quite worried about the facilities however found the toilets and showers fine. Yes they are dated but were pretty clean for a camping site, they weren’t absolutely pristine at all times but this is to be expected with many people using them. For example there was at times some sand on the floor however , I always take a pair of flip flops that are suitable for wearing in a shower anyway as I am never keen on just standing on the floor so this was not an issue. You do have to pay for the showers (50p for 5 mins) in my opinion this works well and means you never have a long wait (if at all) for a shower and the showers were really warm. During our stay the hand wash/sanitiser was always full and there was never a time when toilet roll wasn’t available.
There is a great washing up facility and also washing machines and tumble dryers we did use the washing machine which was approx £4
The pizza place was great and the shop was fine for any basics you may need. We hired a fire pit for a couple of nights which was good too.
The bar was ok, with a few things on throughout the week such as a singer, quiz night etc.
The children loved the play area especially the ping pong table.
All in all we had a good week I wouldn’t say this is the best campsite I have ever been too. However prior to our visit after reading previous reviews I was really apprehensive so in this respect it far exceeded my expectations and we had a great week away and we would definitely visit again

We arrived for a weekend camping with our friends and were really happy with the location of the camp site, the views are amazing and it's relatively close to shops/supermarkets.
There was some confusion at reception about our pitch and how many cars/tents we had booked and paid for. Once this was resolved we were handed a map by to tell us where our pitch was. We booked an 'extra large' pitch, for my partner and myself and two of our friends; so we had 2 cars, 2 tents, 4 people and our dog.
The map showed our pitch was larger than the others, but on arrival we found that there was already two tents (a car, which someone was clearly living in, and a tent next to it). This actually affected the amount of room we had to spread out between us, to avoid being too close to them and also to allow them to still get their car in and out. My partner found a member of staff who he asked about this, as we wanted to make sure that we had the right pitch, the man was rude and said 'yeah, it's staff'. No other explanation was given and we immediately felt that we had paid extra for a pitch that was now the same size as all the others, and meant we had to squeeze ourselves into it. IF we visit again, we will book the normal pitch size, and avoid the extra cost.
As I said the site has amazing views and the fact they allow fires made it even better. We hired one from reception which was a good price and did us well over the two nights we were there!
On the info you're given at reception, it states that noise should be kept to a minimum from 10pm and music should stop at 11pm. We were glad to see this after having some bad experiences in the past! On our second night (Saturday) we returned from a day out to find that the onsite pizza takeaway was closing early, as was the shop. Which was a bit disappointing.
When we returned to our pitch, the staff living next door to us were playing loud music, drinking and getting ready for a night out. We later saw them going up to the top of the site to a 'staff party'. Then we knew why the facilities shut early! The noise (screaming) actually continued until after midnight, as did the music. If a rule is enforced on campers, surely the staff should abide by it too? My friend previously left a review, and you replied saying that noise stopped at 10pm. It didn't.
Our neighbours actually returned back their tent at 7am the following morning in the clothes they had on the night before.. (not very professional?)
The toilets seemed fine, the showers were grubby (but it was muddy outside) could probably do with a little more regular cleaning.. just a suggestion. Had to pay 50p for a 5 minute shower which we didn't know until we arrived at the site.
Overall pretty annoying staff, rudeness seems to be normal here and needs more regular cleaning in the toilets and showers. Probably wouldn't return, certainly not for the price; only to be able to use half the space we paid for.

By far the worst campsite we have ever stayed in. Absolutely filthy facilities with very minimal cleaning in place. Showers so filthy you feel unclean after you've used them and also freezing cold water. Considering you have to pay extra to use the showers on top of the extortionate cost to stay at this camp site, you would expect a clean hot shower!
Our pitch was next to a cesspit which smelt vile all day!
No covid measures in place at all, completely breaching guidelines and putting customers at risk!
Very very very rude staff!
We had our body boards stollen from outside our van when we were alseep.
Avoid this camp site at all costs. When the rude staff were challenged we were told to leave the site (which we had already decided we would be doing anyway as couldn't bare to spend another night there).

The holiday park was recommended by a colleague at work and it didn't disappoint. It's located on the fabulous Lizard. The site itself was great. We had a good sized pitch for our campervan. There's a shop that sells everything that you need on a camping holiday and the pizzas and other snacks were a real plus. Lots of space and flowering plants everywhere. Loos and showers looked to be cleaned on a regular basis and there was hand sanitiser available. There's a takeaway bar and a marquee available to sit in and we found the prices good compared to other places we visited.
We love our coastal walking and there was plenty available with walks to Cadgwith & Lizard Point and good bus network to help us return to base. There is even a Thai takeaway down the road. We didn't expect that, but it was very good , but it got busy when we were there (half term week) so get your order in early. The Kennack Sands beach was nice and not very busy despite it being half term week.
We would definitely return and hope to before the end of the summer with friends if we can't go abroad.

This was by far the worst site we’ve ever stayed on. The pitches are small and not well kept and the cleanliness of the showers and toilets is terrible. To top it all, it was the most expensive site we have ever stayed on.
We have a motorhome, but most people who stay here are younger families camping in tents. The atmosphere of an evening, walking around the site is lovely though. Lots of noisy, excited children and parents drinking and chatting until the early hours. This isn’t my cup of tea, but I appreciate that everyone is on their own holiday and it’s what families need at the moment when holidays have been missed.
However, the people who run Chy Carne need to up their game when holidays abroad return - to charge so much money and offer very little service is unforgivable. We paid £4.50 for our dog per night, but the poo bins were overflowing and smelt disgusting.
The showers were horrendous. And to charge 50p for a 5 minute shower is outrageous, especially when there is no toilet paper and mud/grass/urine/hair all over the floor.
It’s obvious, that with so many tents booked in, the showers and toilets are going to get used more. With the prices they charge, they should have cleaners installed in there all the time, not just once a day. This is especially awful considering we are still in a worldwide pandemic! Incidentally, we didn’t see a single person wear a mask - EVER!
On the plus side, the location of the site is good, with some great walks and and beaches close by.
Sadly, we wouldn’t come back to this site though - there are many other better ones within the area.

We had a great time at Chy Carne. The recent 1 star reviews seems very unfair. Pitch size was good with enough spacing between pitches. Electric hookup worked well with no issues. Toilets and showers were perfectly clean and showers were hot (some other reviews were claiming they weren't). Being charged 50p for the showers is a bit annoying - purely because I never have change on me anymore 😂, but otherwise 5 minutes in the shower is plenty long enough. The floors were a bit muddy at times but unless you had a cleaner permanently waiting in each block to mop up every single persons footsteps that could not be helped - just bring some flip flops to wear in the shower and you'll be fine! The facilities were regularly cleaned. We also had no issues with noise at night so the review about being a 'warzone' seems a little extreme. We would definitely stay here again as it's a great location right near to the beach!

Have just returned from a week at Chy Carne with my wife in our campervan. We had a great week, the weather was OK and we managed to get lots of walking under our belts as it is so close to the coastal path.
The site is a good one and better than many we have stayed at. The facilities on offer were good and clean and we particularly liked the Big Daddies Pizza place that had a very good system for ordering and paying for the pizzas in advance.
Our pitch was on a slight slope, but it didn't bother us as we just chocked the van up. We didn't have a sea view but that was only a few steps away and we had
The site was very busy but most people were sensible and respectful of each other. However, there was an issue that we witnessed with a larger group who were not as they were very noisy and despite the best efforts of the warden guy who we saw walking around every night to check on everything, they did not behave themselves and the next day they were ejected from the site which we very much appreciated by us and those around us. It seems that those ejected have taken to this site to retaliate looking as some of the earlier reviews.

Unfortunately, like a few of the recent reviews we were unhappy with the site. Having paid over £300 for 6 nights we were hopeful the quality would be better. To charge for showers is scandalous regardless of the nominal fee (50p for 5 mins). It’s simply taking advantage, not trying to “save the environment” as the notice referenced. You can’t do anything about noisy neighbours however you would expect the camp staff to be patrolling and telling people to keep music down etc late in the night. The “convenience” store was also a joke in terms of pricing when you consider there’s no alternative nearby. £5 for a jar of hot dog sausages!!! The website gives off the impression of a bijou camping experience when the reality is it’s a massive hill with access to a very average beach by a 20 minute walk.
