To describe Pencubitt House I can do no better than quote the friends we stayed there with.
"It was a beautiful place, the food was exceptional and owners just like old friends. They knew the guests by their first names and quickly learnt their preferences, our stay was wonderful. Definitely returning next year, if not sooner."

This is a quite extraordinary place to stay. Patrick and Julie made us instantly feel at home. The house and its grounds are beautiful and very well kept. The rooms are lovely with very comfortable beds and the whole place is spotlessly clean.
The food that Patrick lovingly prepares each day was delicious on all 5 evenings of our stay and the breakfasts were the best we have had in any hotel anywhere.
The two guest lounges we lovely places to sit and either look at the views, read a book or play card/board games with our friends. The complimentary tea/coffee making facilities in one lounge including cakes were an excellent touch.
For those that like or need it the WiFi was fast and there was an excellent large flat screen TV in our room.
Incredibly good value for money, we have stayed in places more than twice the price that are not half as good.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a pace to stay while visiting such places as The Eden Project, Tintagel, Heligan Gardens or almost anywhere in Cornwall.

Thank you Patrick and Julie
What an absolute treat for the queen’s jubilee
We arrive and we were awestruck by the view as we drove up the drive, we were greeted by Julie the perfect host who showed us to our room 8 what an amazing room a very clean spacious room with a great view, a great big bed fabulous sitting area and the best shower in a perfect bath room.
So quiet with very little noise from the rooms next door.
All of the house I’ll call it that as it became our home for the 5 nights we stayed was spotless lots of pictures on walls to look at ornaments and furniture which seemed endless but no dust, lovely carpets throughout, 2 sitting rooms to relax in with great garden views and a warm welcoming reception and a great staircase leading to the bedrooms .
The dining room was well spaced out with a good view and the breakfast was perfect cooked to order and delicious.
Julie seemed to be everywhere with a smile and her ability to remember names made you feel so relaxed and welcome Patrick was also there and again so welcoming and willing to give you information about the house
Thank you so very much to you for sharing your beautiful home with us it’s wonderful.
Best wishes
Ted and Sheila

We spent for five nights at Pencubitt House whilst visiting family, who are renovating a house close by, and were so lucky to find this accommodation over the Jubilee weekend.

The location of the hotel is perfect for trips by train with Liskeard station just a short walk away. We experienced the picturesque Looe line which spared us the grief of parking and negotiating holiday traffic. The hotel and its lovely grounds, with lots of seating, is so peaceful and quiet that it would be hard not to relax.

Inside there is a range of seating areas with lovely views and comfortable furnishings where guests are able to make their own drinks and relax. The dining room is perfect - small enough to acknowledge other people but spacious enough to allow private conversations. Our room, with a very comfortable king sized bed, settee, tv and en-suite with a powerful shower, became our evening sanctuary to relax with a hot drink and reflect on our day.

Patrick and Julie, our hosts, made us feel cared for with beautiful food and faultless service. Julie’s ability to remember the names of her guests as well as their dietary preferences, deserves special mention.

I would recommend Pencubitt House to anyone who values peace, quiet and relaxation. It would be hard to find anywhere more efficiently run or with higher standards of comfort and cleanliness.

My wife and her sister are originally from Liskeard so very familiar with the local area as their family still live locally. We decided on a stay at Pencubitt as we were attending a special birthday of a family member, rather fitting as my wife and sister attended a wedding over forty years ago at the same hotel!
I hasten to add that Julie and Patrick haven’t been the hosts all of that time but from my understanding have enhanced the hotel to a very high standard to where it is today.
The quality of bed linen, exceptional standards maintained throughout the hotel and nothing too much trouble, all together make for a wonderful stay.
Breakfast was equally a quality experience, from the produce used, cooked perfectly.
Fresh milk available from the lounge area to make tea & coffee, or relaxing in the bar area with a drink (very reasonable bar prices I hasten to add).
It is worth reading the history of this rather magnificent house as it make’s interesting reading.
All in all, an excellent stay and I’m sure we will return in the future.

Julie and Patrick made me feel very at home - they are so welcoming and considerate towards all their guests. The dinners are excellent - fresh ingredients cooked to perfection by Patrick. The lounge and bar are relaxing spaces and I enjoyed having a drink on the terrace overlooking the garden. The lounge is stocked with tea, coffee and fresh milk.
Room 9 was on the 2nd floor but well worth the climb up the stairs. A comfortable bed in a spacious bedroom and a slipper bath in the middle of a huge light and airy bathroom with a large shower. Bliss!!
Liskeard station is only just over 5 minutes walk away with good links to Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall. The branch line to Looe is a beautiful ride too.

Had a recent 3 day stay for a family wedding. First thing that struck was the beauty of the building - a lovely old fashioned sensibility that put me in mind of an Agatha Christie novel. Walking around the lounge, garden and corridors you get a wonderfully idiosyncratic feel of the place. I especially loved the atmospheric paintings on the walls on the stairs and landing!

We stayed in the tower room which was quite frankly huge whilst simultaneously being very comfortable - having a coffee on the window seat looking out at the bucolic views was the perfect antidote to the long journey down.

Enjoyed the bar and its giant selection of gins, wish we'd had more time to try more of them!

Kitchen wasn't open for dinner whilst we were there, but the breakfasts didnt dissappoint - very large and lavish feeling with something for every taste. Especially loved the homebaked gluten free bread, going back to my cardboard supermarket stuff has certainly been a wrench.

Patrick and Julie were fantastically friendly hosts, and my partner and I look forward to coming back to soak in more of the places atmosphere and relax.

The house is grand and rooms clean, spacious and comfortable. Room 3 has a large balcony. Location perfect for Cornwall as both the North and South coasts can be reached in 30 minutes and Liskeard station is a 5 minute walk and serves all main locations. Particularly handy for Looe where parking can be difficult. Patrick and Julie are welcoming hosts and the venue is 100% Covid safe. The food is sensational, breakfasts a large choice, so good we dined in and their food is of a very high quality, better than anywhere in Cornwall.

Beautiful house and rooms. Plenty of social areas, and beautiful grounds to have a relaxing drink in at the end of the day.
Food was good quality and cooked fresh to order. I am intolerant to gluten and dairy, but I still had lots of options, including their own freshly baked gluten free bread.
Room was lovely and spacious, with great shower and lovely seating area. Queen size bed was very comfy.
Very friendly and personal service.
Would definitely recommend Pencubitt House

Pencubitt is a truly stunning country house with beautiful grounds to sit in and relax, after a day out sightseeing. The wildlife is lovely, we were lucky to have Housemartins and Rabbits around and the views are spectacular. The owners Pat and Julie were the perfect hosts, warm, welcoming and friendly. The whole house was spotless with a lovely eclectic mix of care and attention to detail. The food is second to none and you will certainly not be left feeling hungry! The bedroom was very spacious with a lovely comfortable bed and everything we could have wanted was provided. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend Pencubitt.

This was our fourth delightful visit! One is sure of a friendly reception, spacious and comfortable bedrooms, attractive lounges and excellent meals. The dinner menu is wide-ranging: guests choose from the menu in advance so that meals are cooked to order ensuring top quality. The grounds are pleasant for sitting out. Pencubitt is well situated for visiting coastal resorts including Looe and Fowey, while historic houses and gardens including Lanhydrock and Pencarrow are readily accessible. It's just a few minutes walk to Liskeard station (though it's out of sight and the trains are inaudible from the hotel) and the train ride down to Looe is a scenic delight (and saves parking the car at Looe!). We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Bit concerned about the Union Jack. Is this business linked to the government or a right wing political movement?

Around the world lots of buildings are proud to fly their national flag - perhaps it should be the norm in this country as well!!! I doubt this business is linked to either government or a right wing political movement - they're probably just proud to be British.
