My husband and I stayed at the Penrose B&B for 3 nights at the beginning of December 2020. What a treat! A beautiful, spotlessly clean (very covid safe) perfect place to stay. Our hosts Chris & Heidi made us feel at home with their very warm welcome as well as their attention to detail all over the house.
The delicious freshly cooked breakfasts were made to order with local produce and Heidi’s homemade jams.
Our very comfortable large room (room 4) had a fabulous view across Lostwitheil as well as lots of toiletries, tea & coffee and even a little bowl of sweets.
There are many excellent pubs and restaurants in Lostwithiel within walking distance from Penrose B&B, and the Eden Project and lots of other local attractions are just a short drive away.
We will definitely be back to stay & would recommend Penrose B&B to anyone

Response from Heidi Swire, Owner at Penrose B&B

Thank you so much for you review. With covid being so prevalent we feel it is imperative to do our utmost to keep the house over clean!! We also can give enough space in our dining room for each room to sit free of other guests, and Chris is getting a work out waiting on everyone hand and foot:)) We have a map of the town and all the places to eat, plus their telephone numbers - thus making it as easy as possible to make reservations. And as you say, they are all within a short walk. Looking forward to seeing you both again. Chris and Heidi

We booked Penrose B&B because we wanted to visit the Eden Project and it came up as highly rated on our search. It had excellent reviews and I can see why. We hadn't been away as a family since the pandemic so were really looking forward to our mini break away and this turned out to be the tonic for the cure. Extremely comfortable, clean and cosy, Penrose has that home-from-home feel. The spacious family room was perfect for us with a large modern ensuite bathroom and huge bath/shower. We had views of Lostwithiel from our bedroom and our children had their own bedroom within our family suite. The location of Penrose is within 5 min walking distance from the village with all the local pubs and restaurants providing tasty, reasonably priced fayre. The Eden project was also only a 10 min drive away. Breakfast was delicious and the selection was varied, home made and locally produced. However, the highlight of our stay has got to be the owners of Penrose. Chris and Heidi are consummate professionals who were extremely welcoming, warm and friendly who had the whole B&B routine down to a fine art. They were lovely with our children and I would return in a heartbeat. I highly recommend this B&B and can confidently say that you won't be disappointed.

Heidi & Chris are amazing hosts, we were greeted in the car park with a lovely welcome after a long drive. The property is stunning, super clean, wonderfully comfortable and the breakfast is breakfast. The hosts are clearly very experienced and keep this property to the highest possible standards. A brilliant find and a definite place to return.

Our stay at Penrose Bed and Breakfast was just divine. It's wonderfully run, tastefully decorated and kept spotless.

Chris and Heidi couldn't have been more welcoming and attentive hosts. We stayed in Room 3 and the decor was absolutely beautiful, from the wallpaper, curtains and bedding to the tiling in the enormous bathroom. Each area had different ceiling roses and chandeliers and there were lovely little touches throughout, including a sewing kit, cotton wool balls/ear buds, boxes of tissues and a bowl of boiled sweets. They had the most varied and well stocked tea tray I've ever seen (including delicious biscuits), along with a corkscrew for life's essentials!

Breakfast was superb. The menu provided had a lot of choice, especially for vegetarians and you could help yourself to different cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc before being served a hot fresh cooked option. Heidi makes her own jams and marmalades which were on each table and we also had the opportunity to buy these before we left.

Takeaways were allowed, either in your room or the little "snug" which also displayed Heidi's talented photography and artwork.

They also promote recycling and local produce.

The B&B's location was perfect for us, just on the way out of the village and away from traffic noise. We were able to sit in the stunning gardens (although the weather yesterday put pay to that!). Lostwithiel itself was an absolute delight. Every person we met was so friendly, the shops were eclectic and the streets were clean without an ounce of dog 💩 to be seen anywhere. The pubs were welcoming, decent priced and quirky.

We will definitely be making this a regular occurrence. I'm already looking forward to returning. Many thanks for your hospitality.

The room was nicely decorated with a lovely view out to the hills. Breakfast was delicious. Owners were very welcoming giving it a very homely feel. Dog friendly. Everything was spotlessly clean. Measures in place for COVID ie sanitizer stations, staggered breakfast times etc were well organised and reassuring. Pubs nearby and local takeaways. pretty by the river. Would recommend.

Heidi and Chris were terrific hosts - nothing was too much trouble and their breakfasts kept us going for most of the day.
We stayed in Room 3 which boasted a fine vista of Lostwithiel complete with atmospheric mist! The facilities in the room were excellent and we especially appreciated the high quality bedding (and comfortable bed) - essential for a good night's sleep after visiting the many attractions on offer within 30 minutes drive.
Our stay at Penrose made our visit to Cornwall all the more memorable. Thank you.

Having stayed 2 nights in Room 5 at Penrose B&B, I can honestly say it’s the best B&B I have ever stayed in. Room 5 even had an amazing well equipped kitchen, beautiful bathroom & a super comfy King sized bed . It was accessed by patio doors & the views from Penrose are stunning.
There were so many lovely extra touches, from home made jams, chutneys, sewing kits, shoe cleaning pack, full sized products in the bathroom & many more, that I cannot fault it. The room was spotlessly clean & fresh.
Heidi & Chris were the most excellent hosts & nothing was too much trouble. They were very friendly & I received such a warm welcome on arrival. They have not only a beautiful B&B but a home with lots of original features they can be proud of. Although I didn’t have a cooked breakfast, it looked amazing & made with locally sourced products.
Parking is an issue in Lostwithiel but Penrose has its own car park albeit a little tricky to park but Chris was more than happy to manoeuvre my car for me. All in all I’d thoroughly recommend Penrose for anyone looking to stay in the area. Lostwithiel is a beautiful historic town & it’s an ideal base to visit local attractions like Eden, Heligan, Restormel castle, Bodmin & Wenford Railway , Bodmin Gaol & a multitude of beaches.
I look forward to returning again in the future . Thank you so much Heidi & Chris.

We stayed for a week in early February and had the good fortune to be in room 5 on the ground floor. The room was warm and very clean and had an added bonus in the kitchen/dining area equipped with everything needed to prepare food, fridge for cold drinks. Very useful after a long day to cook or eat in takeaway from the nearby shops. During the stay I had trouble with the on/off button of the electric shower in the bathroom, the water wouldn’t turn off as it should. I brought this to Chris’s attention and it was soon fixed, not just a new button but a whole new unit. Top class service and shower working perfectly. To me that exemplifies the pride and attention to detail both Chris and Heidi have in managing this delightful B&B. The breakfasts were plentiful and filling and I would definitely recommend others to stay here. Short walk to the nearby pubs with friendly locals made for an enjoyable stay. The hosting of both owners was friendly and informative with lots of knowledge of the local & surrounding areas. Wishing you well for the new season.

What else can I add to the excellent reviews of the Penrose?
Amazing from start to finish, Chris and Heidi are a very warm, friendly and accommodating couple of hosts, they take pride in the service they provide and it can only be described as first class.
We stayed in room 5 which was more like a self contained 1 bedroom flat you accessed from outside the property.
The room was well equipped and decorated really well.
The whole house is immaculate, I can't believe how clean the place is. Well done to the unseen cleaning team!
Considering it was a bit of a rainy week ending in a storm, we didn't get wet once, there's plenty of indoor attractions in the vicinity and it's perfectly placed to get to lots of Cornish favourites within the hour.
Heidi provided a delicious cooked breakfast every morning expertly delivered by Chris and it was so filling we could only eat one other small meal on most of the time we were there.
There was also a choice of cereals, fruit, yogurts, porridge etc but we didn't need it.
Heidi's home made Jam is delicious and you can even buy your very own jar along with various chutneys and marmalade.
I can't recommend this b&b any more, the town is friendly and welcoming and this is a perfect base to explore Cornwall whilst living the life of luxury!

Your hosts Chris and Heidi, give exceptional service and attention to detail.
The breakfast is cooked to perfectly and is locally sourced, including Heidi's home made conserves. Our room was immaculately cleaned and had beautiful furnishings. It was a delightful stay and John & Heidi made our border terrier most welcome.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH and we will see you soon.

Yes, dogs are allowed in the bedrooms, however, the dining room is out of bounds at breakfast. You dog can be left in your bedroom or in your car, whichever is best for you. Hope this helps - Chris and Heidi: Proprietors

Hi, I'm just wondering what is the latest time for check in? Many thank Sophie
Answer from penrosebb

Hello Sophie Our check in time is normally between 4pm and 9pm (check out 10am) as we need time to clean the rooms and also have to do our errands during the day and have a bit of a life! As our guests from below have graciously advised, just give us a call and we should be able to help you - although midnight is pushing it a bit as we are not a hotel with staff to stay up all night, it is just Chris and myself. Hope this helps. Chris & Heidi
