Detailed Reviews
This has been our first family holiday break since the beginning of the year as well as a first staycation and we were not disappointed. The location is perfect, away from the noise and crowd, and a special place to relax, looking at the fields every day wondering where the sheep, the horse or the chicken are and observe their daily patterns. The cottage has very good proximity to the town, beach and local restaurant. We were able to access the beach via a lovely short walk through the wood. The Constantine cottage is very well set with a well designed and high-quality interior, clean and well thought for kids. Overall great week to reset in this beautiful location. The entire family was thrilled - Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at Merlin Farm despite very challenging weather conditions, to say the least.
We stayed in haryln cottage with our 9 and 7 yr old children and Labrador for four nights in the middle of storm Dennis!
The cottage was perfect
It was spacious but cosy with a log burner that was glorious to return to after wet walks along the glorious beaches of north Cornwall. The under floor heating adds to the coziness and all our wet clothes quickly dried.
The kitchen is fully equipped, they have everything you need for cooking and a large Smeg fridge.
We usually stay in Newquay when we come to Cornwall and don’t explore as much as we did this time being further up the coast.
One of our favourite experiences was lunch at Nathan Outlaw fish kitchen in Port Isaac. We had the taster menu which was amazing.
We also had dinner at Rick Steins St Petrocs in Padstow which was also lovely. Both Port Isaac and Padstow are easily reached by car from the farm.
The children loved waking up to the view of horice the donkey in the field outside as they ate their breakfast, they also managed to feed the geese with the owner, Darrel.
My son loved the wildlife notebook and spent the whole trip looking for wildlife. the chicken feed in the cottage is a lovely touch.
In bad weather there are plenty of indoor attractions for the children to enjoy nearby such as the swimming pools and trampoline park in Newquay a short drive away.
Finally, our Labrador was in heaven; to him it was like a luxury spa break with all the wonderful walks and smells galore
A wonderful break all round. We will definitely stay again.

We had a lovely week at Merlin Farm, in the Daymer studio, (dog friendly). The studio was a comfortable size for a couple, spotlessly clean and it had everything that you might need. There is l lovely private fenced off area with a table for sitting in the sun, (we even managed a few breakfasts out side, the weather was lovely) . The location of the farm feels isolated, however it is a short walk though a wooded area down to the village and the beautiful beach and costal walks.
We had our dog with us and she had a great time, no issues at all, she was a wee bit excited by the chickens and the ducks and was teased regularly by the rooster, but it was good.
Overall I can highly recommend Merlin Farm Cottages.

The Eco cottages are stylish, very well equipped and ideally positioned to walk down to the beach at Mawgan Porth , or through a wooded path to St Mawgan and Retorrick Mill . Lucy and Darryl are great hosts and created a oasis to return to from a day at the beach or visiting surrounding areas . Perfect holiday accommodation

We have just returned from a two week stay in Harlyn one of the 3 eco cottages and what a fantastic experience it's been. The quality of the accommodation is great, beautifully designed, very cosy and with everything you need. It is probably one of the best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in. It is in a great location, very peaceful tucked away off the road into Mawgan Porth but just a 10 min walk down to the beach. Lucy & Darrel clearly know how to do hospitality and we are already talking about returning perhaps in the winter months which will give us the opportunity to use the log burner.

Truly, an amazing place to unwind and enjoy some peace and quiet.
The Eco-Cottages at Merlin Farm (we stayed in Harlyn) are exceptional offering luxury features and fittings in a restrained and subtle way.
There are no frivolous and wasteful touches (like Hot Tubs), everything is high-end, curated and considered.
Everything throughout the cottage was of the utmost quality and we particularly enjoyed the rainfall shower in the main bathroom. The kitchen is also top quality and boasts plenty of everything - we were left wanting nothing to prepare meals.
Rooms are warm, spacious and airy with modern, contemporary decor and finishes perfectly suited to the architectural style .
We selected Merlin Farm as it's in-line with our eco-conscious ethos, it's run in the most sustainable way possible and every part of this has been thought of. The free EV charging from the own Solar PV panels was also a massive bonus for us and meant that we didn't need to find chargers while we were out and about.
The location is wonderfully quiet offering peace and solitude - but Mawgan Porth beach is only a 15 minute walk away - though the path is quite steep it is a very pleasant walk through the pine trees.
If you are seeking a upscale self-catering experience in a peaceful and relaxing setting then Merlin Farm is about the best you'll find - it's certainly the best self-catering accomodation we have experienced.
We will be back.

A regular visitor to Merlin Farm, usually staying in Daymer which is cozy and homely for two, plus Jim the dog. We shared this gem with our family recently staying in Haryln and Porthcothan. Beautiful eco cottages equipped to meet everyone's needs. The usual high standards of cleanliness, facilities and a perfect location, within easy access to so many local dog friendly beaches. One of the key benefits is being able to walk to the beach safely through the woodland path. Seasonal extras were greatly appreciated, my grand daughter had us completing the Halloween treasure hunt within 30 minutes of arriving. Thank you Lucy and Darrel you continue to meet and exceed your guests needs. So much so my family have booked a return visit to experience Merlin Farm in the summer.

We stayed the weekend in Daymer and it was absolutely bliss! Loved it! The place had a fireplace and a bath; luxury..! The studio has everything you need and the owners are super helpful, respond quickly and hospitable (thanks for the cornish cookies and milk by the way :)! The surroundings is awesome. We biked the camel trial on Sat (from Bodmin to Padstow) and walked from the cottage to Watergate Bay which was heaven. Finish the day with a sundowner at the Watergate Bay hotel with a cold beer and seafood. What more can you wish for...! Also, highly recommend the Prawn on the Lawn in Padstow for lunch. Thanks Lucy for an amazing stay. We’ll come back soon. This cottage is fab for any time of the year as it is so close to the beach.

We have visited Merlin Farm Cottages for 7 of the last 8 years. The cottages are a good size, light and airy with stylish furniture. They are well equipped, clean, well maintained and comfortable and also have Eco credentials with electricity and hot water/heating from solar energy.
The location is very peaceful, away from the road into Mawgan Porth but just a 10-15 minute walk via a wooded path and quiet road down to the beach. Mawgan Porth itself has good facilities.
There are many locations worth visiting within an easy distance ranging from Carnewas, several sandy beaches to more ‘touristy’ destinations like Padstow. The website and booking information have details, speaking of which the booking process is easy to use, clear and straightforward.
The owners, Lucy and Darryl are and have always been welcoming and extremely helpful.

So sorry Linda, I have only just seen your enquiry on here. Hopefully you have got in touch with us directly in the meantime. If you are still interested, we currently have 1 week available for 4 people, an infant and a dog w/c 24th August. For more info visit our website and click on cottages, then scroll down to Porthcothan Eco Cottage. Kind regards Lucy
We were in the studio which would sleep 2. The other cottages would sleep more.
Hello, we're 10-15 mins walk to the beach (maybe a bit longer on way back as last bit uphill). I guess with 5 year olds in tow you could add another 5-10 mins? Hope that helps, Lucy
