Maker Camp is located at Maker Heights on the wild and incredible South East Cornish coast giving seaward views towards Cawsand Bay and back towards the moors. Only a few minutes walk to the beaches and villages of Kingsand and Cawsand, once a popular haunt of smugglers and now unspoilt by time with their narrow streets with colour-washed cottages. We are set in acres of natural landscape, in a quiet and rural location, on the South West Coastal Path. However, the site is still close to local shops and pubs, galleries, cafes and many attractions. The campsite is designed with the greatest respect to nature and the intent to give campers a genuine experience of camping in the most natural way. We are non-profit making, with all of the money received from the campsite being re-invested into to the Rame Conservation Trust.

The service receives high marks for the attentive and friendly staff, as well as the pristine and well-kept amenities that enhance the camping experience. I spent my birthday at Maker, with friends. The windy country roads towards the campsite make it an interesting drive, the campsite itself had all the amenities you need, spacious kitchen, toilets - cleaned regularly and a canteen for breakfast.
It is mainly a family campsite, so no noise after 11pm is enforced. There are concrete campfires and logs set up around the site to allow guests to warm up and socialise.

There is soo much beauty to see around, the views from the campsite are stunning, it's a 20 minute walk down to Cawsand a quaint seaside town, where you can paddle board or swim and buy delicious fish and chips. There's a great coastal path to walk through the woods, on the other side is breathtaking views of the open ocean towards france, boats sailing and wind blowing, could spend a lot of time there, the path follows round to a bigger beach Whitsand Bay.

A bigger, sandier beach which is a 10 min drive away - there isn't much near this beach, so advise to bring your own lunch.

This trip was for my birthday and it was perfect for what we wanted from a campsite, clean and spacious campsite, with 360 stunning views, with beaches in walking distance.

I would go back in a heartbeat

We were two households who met at the site so we could spend time together during Covid. We chose our pitches close to where the onsite bar was going to be later then we got started cooking over the fire. One of my favourite things about this campsite is the communal fire pits scattered about the site. They also sell firewood for £6 onsite.
We also went down to Cawsand for a swim. There is a car park about 200m from the beach which is 60p for an hour or £2.20 for 2hrs and does not give change. You can rent SUPs at the beach.
There is a steep walk down to the beach and on a hot day I'd recommend that as the carpark gets full really early.
Maker Canteen food is absolutely gorgeous - on the expensive side made from locally sourced ingredients and they don't open till 10am - which if you have kids who wake up at 7am is quite a long wait :).
The views from this site are gorgeous, on a clear night you get a beautiful starry view.
The toilets are near the canteen itself. Flushing with sanitizing spray in each stall. Sanitiser dispensers on each door into the washing up area and canteen. It all felt really safe. There are showers 20p, 50p and £1 taken.
They allow dogs and there were lots on site. All well behaved.
There are also a lot of historical ruins around and my friend really enjoyed reading the signs describing the history.

A really enchanting site, perfect for a little cornish getaway. The site caretaker was welcoming & helpful, the Sunday fish & chips we're lush. My little lad adored the fire pits (which there was plenty of across the site), it's very family friendly. My only point for improvement would be the toilets, they were a little too rustic (an quite a few broken). I feel compost toilets around the site would be a great investment, while still lending to the natural/eco feel of the site.

There was plenty of water points on site, the washing up but came in great use and the firewood to purchase on site was very reasonable. I found the site guide book very informative with a good map of the area.

Maker is not for those people who wanted regimented marked up pitches or electric hook ups. It is a place where you go for space, peace and tranquility. There is just enough of everything in terms of toilets and a coin operated shower, wash up and a sort of chilled out space where you can use the freezer. You can see the stars and be in the weather and it is great for re-setting.

Maker is full of open space, wildlife, sea views, history and happy campers. We found the perfect pitch that was facing the ocean and stayed for 6 nights. Maker has hot showers that we never had to wait for, and a canteen serving delicious food, coffee and cakes. It is a short walk from the beautiful Cawsand and Kingsand, and the staff recommended amazing beaches a bit further as well as a stunning coastal walk that was one of the highlights of our stay. Couldn’t not recommend Maker enough, we will be back! Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay x

If you are looking for an understated campsite on the headland of a beautiful patch of Cornwall this is the place. The atmosphere is very chilled and informal with a slight festival atmosphere. And it's easy walking distance to the unspoiled villages and beaches of Kingsand and Cawsand.
The people who run the site are lovely. Jo, who is a very good singer, provided informal campsite entertainment on the Friday and Saturday night which was enjoyed by adults and children a like. Some of the children even did a turn on the mic which was delightful.
Fires are allowed and wood is sold onsite but there is a strict 'no music' after 10.30pm policy. However, it's easy to find a secluded spot away from the site if you want to watch the stars and play music..... remember 'Not too loud' and 'Leave no Trace!'
The showers and toilet facilities are good and extremely clean and we didn't have to wait at any time to use them. There is a second set of toilet porta-cabins away from the main block which is at the opposite end of the site so there were plenty of loos.
The Canteen serves scrumptious breakfast and lunch. We only meant to eat there once but found ourselves breakfasting quite a few times. On occasional evenings food was brought onsite by an outside vendors. Whilst we stayed there was Mexican on the Wednesday and Fish and Chips on the Sunday. A visiting cocktail bar appeared twice during our visit.
As far as I could see all social distancing rules were adhered to and there was anti-bac sprays and hand sanitiser in all the communal areas and everywhere was extremely clean.

Maker Camp is an old abandoned fortification complete with Barracks and Nissen Huts with view out over Plymouth Sound. Rame Conservation Trust runs the site and has been set up to protect the area and has introduced a nature/conservation habitat as well as protection for the buildings and fortifications.

Thank you Petra and Jo. We'll be back.....

Dear Petra and team, many many thanks for providing such a safe and welcoming stay at the Maker Heights campsite this summer. I have visited on 5 separate occasions this summer, now known as my 'Happy Place'. The toilets and washing areas have all been well maintained, all signage for social distancing areas and public health awareness have been clear. The one way existing system round the campsite works well.

On arrival the receptionist was very welcoming and helpful.

It was interesting to be inside an old Nissen hut. These are used by the campsite as the reception, the loos and showers now. There are lots of old buildings on site, which were originally barracks etc with swallows nesting in their eves.

We found a beautiful spot to camp with a view over the River Tamar and the Plymouth Breakwater. We watched the Brittany ferry leave and arrive and many naval vessels coming and going.

Lots of swallows were swooping around us and it is an environment full of insects and wildlife.

We had a walk to Kingsand down a very steep path but well worth the effort.

I was a bit disappointed in the showers. They are very new looking and the water was lovely and hot. However, there was only one small hook on the back of the door to hold everything. And it was very tricky to balance on on one leg to dress due to the huge puddle on the floor. This puddle also serves as a mirror for those waiting their turn.

A small bench seat and two or three more hooks and some kind of duck board to stand on are needed to make the showers a pleasant experience.

The croissants from the cafe are delicious and so are the handmade pizzas if you want to splash out.

Overall a very pleasant campsite with stunning views.

The ideal place to wind down. The site is quiet, and interesting to explore - there is always something new to find, and it’s history is incredible. Lots of countryside walks, and beaches nearby too.. Staff are always really friendly. I had the most amazing camping spot, where I could see the sea on one side of me, and the Tamar river on the other, with Dartmoor as a backdrop to finish the view perfectly; it was particularly stunning at night, with the lights of Plymouth shimmering... Facilities are clean, there are plenty of bins for rubbish. Camping spots are well spaced out. Dogs welcome; my dogs loved their stay too!! 🤣🤣
Families, kids, and solo campers all welcomed; the campsite feels safe. Try it and see - you won’t be disappointed. ❤️

Sorry I don’t do fires or bbq so I didn’t ask. Their website has lots of info on what sort of fires you can have, but doesn’t specify you can bring your own. There’s a “ contact us” form so you could ask them directly. Hope you have a good holiday!

It was £12 pp per night a couple of weeks ago and there was a food van on site and pizzas, on the Friday and Saturday when we stayed. Not sure if it changes throughout the season and through the week
