Detailed Reviews
This Inn is in a great location for those wanting to visit the main holiday destinations of Cornwall. Mevagissey, Charlestown Fowey and Looe are nearby and there are an abundance of smaller coves and attractions, such as The Eden Project, on the doorstep. A 40 minute drive gets you across the peninsula to the beaches and attractions of the north coast. There is ample parking on site and Par railway station is just across the road with good rail links to other parts of Cornwall, such as Penzance. There is also a regular bus service.
The accommodation was good, but we did experience a damp smell in our room, which we put down to the fact that the fan in the bathroom had obviously not been working for some time, allowing a build up of moist air. This needs attention.
Breakfasts are of a good quality and there is a good choice. Although we did not have an evening meal (we were meeting friends), the consensus among other guests indicated these were also of a good quality, with plenty of choice and very good portions.
The staff were polite and helpful and the manager Gavin was very chatty and accommodating.
At the end of the day you get what you pay for but overall our experience was good.

Me my 6 year old son and my mum stayed there for 5 days last within the last week. The room was surprisingly big with a large double and one single bed, clean linen and towels. The bathroom could do with a revamp as the shower was rubbish as there was just no pressure for the water. We ate there for evening meals and I wasn't impressed with the food, the evening meals all seemed rushed and not much care and consideration taken. Each meal came out on a boiling hot plate including my sons meals and I asked the staff to please put his food on a cold plate we got there eventually. Breakfast was great every morning with a nice selection.
Choose a room at the back of the hotel as we had one at the front under the bar and it was noisy and you could hear all the traffic noise and trains during the night.
The staff were friendly and accommodating, my only gripe was that the carpark was small and some of the spaces were out of use, after a long day out we would come back and there would not be anywhere to park. I asked the manager about this and he said that people who were dining could use the carpark also and there was not preferential treatment if you were staying at the hotel, which I found odd as maybe it should really be the other way round.

Went for lunch sat outside in the lovely new seating area. We were waited on hand and foot nothing was too much trouble. The food arrived piping hot and is great value for the money. Will be back very soon

Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the bar manager (not the main person in charge) had a very variable temperament. On our first morning there, our breakfast table was right in front of the bin and chiller cabinet with no room for any social distancing from people getting their continental breakfast. We asked if we could change tables and he stomped over, picked up our room number and slammed another room number down on the table with a bang before moving us to another table. He seemed very annoyed if anybody had an issue and didn't seem to want to be there. Not the right type of person to have in charge.
Having said that, the hotel is reasonably priced and the breakfast and evening meals are excellent. The evening meals were very good value for money (breakfast was included in the price of the room).
Parking could be difficult if you came back early evening as there is limited parking. Pub customers were using the car park and there was no reserved parking for hotel guests. This meant that, on several occasions, we had to park up the road and then move the car back to the car park later in the evening when a space became available.
The shower was little more than a trickle but the water was always nice and warm.
Our room overlooked the train station and the main road was right in front. It was noisy first thing in the morning with trains using their horns and busy commuter traffic from 06.00 so we had to have the window closed at night even though it was very warm with it closed. There was a fan in the room which we had to use all night but the noise from this was preferable to the train and road noise.
Good location for exploring that part of Cornwall.

We stayed for 6 nights mid October to attend a wedding, good accommodation
every thing in the room we needed, asked for an iron very quickly supplied. Well cooked food plenty on the plate, didn’t need a starter, great breakfast.
Stayed in room 15 no trouble sleeping didn’t find the trains or road noisy at all, rooms 14 & 15 are at the front all other rooms are at the side so would be quieter. Wi-fi ok in the bar but dropped out in bedroom, but the walls are 2 ft. thick.
Friendly & helpful staff.
We would definitely stay again if in the area.
Ideal for the Eden Project.

We had a superior room, which was a good size, however, in the bathroom there was the previous people's half used toiletries left under the rolled up bath mat, making us question how much cleaning had been done prior to our arrival....
We advised one of the staff who said she would tell the manager straight away, however that was the last we heard of it, no one came to see us or apologise or even offer some reassurance the room had been cleaned, not good enough post covid!!
Carpet between bedroom area and bathroom frayed coming away, bathroom door did by close, there was a dreadful smell in the bathroom, unsure what it was
I was given a glass with lipstick still on from the bar....
Some staff were friendly, others appeared to not want to be there and the manager did not acknowledge you, despite our concerns about the cleanliness or maybe that was why!?!
Food reasonable, breakfast good and portion size good
Having said that, it was a two night stay, glad it was no longer and wouldn't recommend, such a shame as a good location

Save your time and money. Don't visit here.
The pub itself has had a refresh. It looks much better than this time last year. However, looks can be deceiving.
The food was abysmal. I ordered the steak and ale pie and in all honesty I would have been happier with a fray bentos. No evidence of any ale notes. The steak itself was dry and chewy. It had clearly been microwaved..
The service was a bit slack. There was less than half a dozen others eating in the pub and neither of the 2 staff members checked on our food. When the plates were cleared I made it clear the food was not up to scratch. The waited returned and said the chef wanted full payment and did not see anything wrong with the food.
I did ask to see the chef personally, but the arrogant so-so was too busy 'upstairs'.
Avoid at all costs as the food is not even mediocre.

Booked a deluxe four poster bedroom and got a standard room above the kitchen.
The owner did not have the nerve to come and talk to me instead left his staff to talk to myself, blaming booking.com for not sending the correct info.
The real reason is the room was booked before the pandemic and they had nearly doubled there prices.
The fact i paid for the most expensive room at the time of booking and got the cheapest room on arrival, is bad business, but I guess they don’t want returning customers, and have forgotten the pandemic will be over one day

We were in room 12, it was small but nicely furnished and the bed was comfortable. The TV was very small, there was a radiator in the bathroom that did not have a valve or instruction on how to turn it off, it had made the whole room very hot. We opened the window wide and wrapped the radiator in a towel to stop the heat. When it came time to sleep was when we realized that our room was above the cellar and the refrigeration kicked in every forty minutes and ran for around fifteen minutes this woke us up and kept us awake throughout the night. At 7.35 am the whole building vibrated with the most horrendous noise, we think the water pipes were causing the noise, this noise did not stop for around an hour so there was no point in trying to sleep. At breakfast, a choice of four different kinds of cereal was on offer and a full English but there was no offer of pastries or jam with toast. On speaking to the owner we were offered a change of room for the next night but we declined because the horrendous noise in the morning could be heard all over the building and we did not want to pay to be woken up early in the morning again. The irony is that we had asked for a quiet room.

We stayed for one night whilst in Cornwall, nice greeting from Manager. Room very spacious with comfortable bed. Do wish we had been advised about the switch above bathroom door to heat the water as water was stone cold in the morning so no shower and a cold wash. Yuk! Water finally started to heat after breakfast but unfortunately we had an appointment to attend, so couldn't use the facilities.
My husband had the Omelette for lunch, but the egg hadn't been beaten very well and had lumps if white and yolk in it. Jacket potato good.
The restaurant menu in the evening was different to the website but the food was plentiful and good value for money. The waitress / barmaid really needs to to engage a bit more we put an arm up to order drinks and she rolled her eyes as if it was all too much effort, she came across quite stand offish throughout our visit with all the customers.

About 5 minutes, just round the corner.
I think that others have answered your question!
I would just add that from the Royal Inn the station is a couple of minutes walk - but it is down some quite steep paths and steps.
Station staff were helpful.
Enjoy Cornwall!
Yes there is off road parking & the car park is round the side of building over looked by hotel room windows.
