Carol & Tony were very welcoming nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were of an excellent standard. The breakfasts were as good as you would receive in any first class hotel.Nothing was too much for trouble Carol (even down to getting in special gluten free food for breakfast for one of our party). I would recommend a stay at Atlantic Mews without reservation to anyone wanting excellent accommodation in the St Agnes area.We will be staying again in the future as this certainly is the best accommodation we have had after many visits to this area!

My husband and I stayed with Carol and Tony for 2 nights. We were made to feel very welcome into their lovely home. Had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Our hosts were more than accommodating, even phoning ahead to see if a restaurant was busy, and offering to drive us down if the weather was bad. The cat and the dog were friendly and cute too! Overall a lovely B&B, that we would recommend.

Visited a little while back in the year with my wife. We were given a reasonably polite welcome by Carol, Tony blanked both myself and my wife during the beginning of our stay, through to the end. He barely uttered a word to either of us. I'm not a big talker myself, but a simple "Hi guys" and a put on smile would have been an upgrade. Clearly not the most promising welcome. During the later stages of our stay the personal attitudes of both Carol and Tony towards my wife and I quickly deteriorated further. We were accused, rather sternly of apparently spilling wine on the floor and bed linen, along with blocking the toilet and also "using too much electricity". Firstly, given the price we were paying per night, even if we were being wasteful with electricity and toiletries would have easily covered these exaggerated expenditures. Secondly, had Carol and Tony had approached either of us in a respectful, polite and reasoned manner I wouldn't have had so much of a cause for complaint, however approaching my wife only, in a rather abrupt manner is entirely unacceptable. If anyone should have been approached it should have been both of us, or myself, as the standing male. However these accusations were addressed in a rude, hostile and ultimately, upsetting manner. The manner in which you do not speak to your guests, that assuming you still want to operate a successful B and B and do not want the guests to have to depart a day earlier. (The irony being that they did). The second issue we encountered during our stay was their attitudes towards payment. Prior to departure I had explained to Carol in person that I may need to transfer money over to another card in order to withdraw (she demanded cash in hand, as opposed to transfer), but again her attitude towards a relatively simple issue was composed of rudeness and a lack of basic politeness and understanding. We subsequently received no kind words on departure, (as we expected) such as have a safe journey. Not even a mere goodbye. The door was shut firmly behind us. We were both appalled and horrified by this lack of basic respect towards guests. The only reasonable aspect of our stay and the B and B was the breakfast, which was of a high standard, however, just don't ask for any additional food, as you might have it thrown down in front of you, as my wife did with her toast. The rooms are also of a reasonable standard. However, it is clear that the negatives hugely outweigh any degree of positives encountered during our stay. Not the best experiences when you decide to venture on a romantic break away.

Response from Tonychild, Owner at 8 Atlantic Mews
Responded 29 Sept 2015
This January, when this incident is supposed to have occurred, we had no bookings whatsoever as we were not at home, and therefore could not have happened. In 9 years of having guests we have had none of the problems described in this review, except in December 2013, when an immature young couple booked in for 5 days. The points raised in this review all occurred during their visit in the following circumstances. First of all they gave their arrival time as 10.30 pm. At midnight we had a phone call from within the village asking directions. Forty-five minutes later they arrived, having nipped into a late night bar, while we had waited patiently for their arrival. We were, at 12.45, very tired and probably not in fun mode. Having showed them their room they asked if they could ring the boy’s father as both their phones were out of money (suspicious as they had used a phone 45 minutes earlier). When we got into bed, they knocked on the door and asked for paracetamol tablets, which we supplied, and several other times during their stay. They were very late for breakfast the next morning and Tony was interrupted cooking breakfast, being asked if he had any Brylcream, and the boy was not happy when we gave a negative reply. On one morning, we found several red wine stains (and an empty bottle of wine) on the carpet on one side of the bed, and a chocolate stain from a used drinking mug which was found tipped over on the floor. The carpets had to be washed. The next day the toilet was blocked (only time ever in 14 years) but a whole toilet roll had been used in one day. Another day, we left them in their room, and when we returned several hours later, the house was cold (it was December) the door to their bedroom was open and both windows were wide open, the TV and all the lights in the room and bathroom were blazing away, yet they were nowhere to be seen. One night they went out at 11.45 to a late night bar, but after they arrived back they summoned an Ambulance at 2AM. The paramedics could find no problem. Next day, all was normal until late afternoon and said they might be going home. We told them the amount owed and told them where the ATM machines were in the village. They returned saying they could not draw out sufficient funds and that they would transfer funds. As they did not have sufficient funds in their accounts, we would not accept a bank transfer as we did not have internet banking at that time. They contacted father, who arranged to transfer money to their account the next morning so they could pay our remaining money. We were more than happy when the couple left, one day early, but annoyed to find used contraceptive packets in the bedroom drawers, on the bathroom floor and displayed on a bathroom ornament. Later on the evening of their departure, we had a young abrasive voice wanting to know if we had a room for that night, there was much laughter ad aging on going on in the background, we can only surmise who this might have been. The young immature boys character suggested he might take revenge for his inappropriate behaviour in our home. I hope when you read this, you will also read the other 55 reviews, and make your own judgement.

Another lovely stay with Carol and Tony. I have run out of superlatives for this special B&B in one of our favourite parts of Cornwall. Kind and welcoming hosts, sumptuous breakfasts and clean and comfy rooms. We will be back of course

Excellent location and a lovely place to stay. Rooms are an excellent size, and very quiet and comfortable. Our hosts (Carol & Tony) were very warm and welcoming. When it was bucketing down with rain on the second evening, we brought a Chinese takeaway back to the dining room. Lovely breakfasts, with fresh fruit, home-made jams/marmalade/lemon curd, plus excellent cooked breakfasts. We were just a short walk to the town centre of St Agnes and this is an excellent base to explore the north coast of Cornwall. Would definitely stay there again.

Great B&B near centre of St Agnes. Welcoming hosts, stylish décor, delicious breakfasts. We have just spent a week with Carol and Tony and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Breakfast is very flexible and there is something to suit all tastes, with a variety of fresh fruit every day as well as cereal and cooked, locally sourced breakfast. Thoroughly recommended.

Incredibly friendly and- no pun intended- accommodating. Carol and Tony were very flexible with our arrival time, and instantly made us feel right at home. The room was spotless, with en-suite shower. House and garden are lovely too. But really, Carol and Tony are the star attractions. So friendly and a mine of local information. Tony cooked a completely delicious locally sourced Cornish breakfast, and we even left with some of Carol's home made scones and brown sauce! We couldn't have had a nicer time, and will definitely be coming back. Can wholeheartedly recommend you do the same.

We stayed for one night over Easter weekend and I would definitely stay again. The place was comfortable, clean and cosy and the hosts lovely, warm and welcoming. The photos do not do it justice. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. All in all a perfect stay.
