We were lucky enough to stay at this wonderfully placed, peaceful campsite last year when it was under the ownership of Ginny and Martin.

We had a few reservations after booking again for a weeks camping this year, which we have just returned from, following change of ownership.

Out of luck more than judgement, we were treated to having Avenger Field all to ourselves which was a great experience and super quiet. Being woken by nothing but the birds morning chorus was pretty special.

We were expecting the changes to Harley’s Field, which was disappointing to see, as it was managed as a wildflower area previously and was a great area to safety walk our dog off the lead, in a fully secure area. There are now static caravans, camping bays along with a large American bus. There are no open managed areas within the campsite now, where dogs can be exercised though this wasn’t a problem for us as the airfield is on the doorstop with the cove a shortish walk away.

Though the campsite does still accept dogs, I wouldn’t go as far to say it is dog friendly as dogs have to be permanently on leads, even if under the full control of the owner when off lead.

The site does feel that it has now grown more, from a commercial aspect, but I suppose this is to be expected with new ownership.

There was no sign that there would be a morning mobile barista, evening mobile pizza and fish and chips, which was in place last year, all of which was very popular.

Elaine and Nick, who were on site, were very friendly and helpful. Elaine actually came looking for us to say goodbye on our last walk through the adjacent airfield as she didn’t want to miss us without saying goodbye, which we thought was a lovely touch.

Just recently stayed at Blue hills, had a really nice welcome from assistant wardens Pauline & Kevin, really lovely helpful people. Was pitched by the owners Ginny & Martin, again really lovely helpful couple, nothing was to much trouble. Due to the current crisis COVID 19 we was at first apprehensive about coming away, our first trip since lockdown, but being at Blue hills we was really relaxed and they had set out the site to really safe standards. Would really recommend this site, well positioned to visit the northern or southern sides of Cornwall, also wonderful to walk on the south coastal foot path,which is about 5 minutes walk from the site.
Really had a wonderful time here, well done to all.

This site is an ok site to stay on, couple issues i had was the site i was pitched on was on a massive slope, not even leveling blocks levelled my van out. It does state on the website 'slight slope' however can assure you it is more than a slight slope. Also the picture of the pitch on the website is not accurate and looks nothing like the actual pitch. No cafe or shop on site, only a mobile coffee van which only stays half an hour and leaves at 8.30am! Not ideal when most people wont get up and get ready until 8.30/9.

Finally, you are a long way away from most places and access to the site is terrible if you are driving a van/motorhome/caravan. Roads very narrow and very difficult when meeting another vehicle coming opposite direction.

Saying this, the staff was friendly, facilities clean and a very peaceful site. Benefits from a lovely cliff walk with breath taking views accessible from the campsite

We probably wouldnt return due to location

We are sorry that our park didn't live up to your expectations. Cornwall is mostly narrow lanes which is part of the charm. We are glad that you found the park to be clean and the staff friendly. The Blue Hills Team

We recently stayed at Blue Hills Touring Park, Perranporth. Overall was a great stay and will be back again in the future, but there are some caveats that I would like to share.

The serviced pitch we had was 36 and it’s a lovely with amazing views and easy access to the gate to go for walks along the beautiful coast line, see the pics attached.

The site is well maintained by two warden couples who rotate shifts and are always busy keeping the site nice and presentable, thank you.

Areas I think need improving or could be a show stopper for some people;

At weekends there is a lot of aircraft activity and the take off path goes straight over the sit, pending wind direction and weather, some of the aircraft are incredibly loud, the sky divers plane which goes up every hour or so was so loud you could not talk over the noise until it passed. They also run helicopter rides every 30 mins, pretty much non-stop during the day, at one point I had the warden running a petrol a strimmer, the helicopter taking off and a farm tractor passing the pitch, it was funny at the time as it was so loud! Week days are much quieter though and thankfully I love aircraft so enjoyed watching them, but be aware it is a fully active airport.

The facilities at the site are fairly poor I am afraid to say, I understand from one of the wardens that they are possible updating them soon. The showers are push button ones, they are either freezing or burning hot, the wardens do try to adjust them, but struggle to get it right for everyone. There is no shop, no wardens office, they live in caravans as you come in left and right, the toilet and shower mini huts for the top field pitches are awful! Really let’s the site down. I don’t think I would come back until these are updated.

Whilst the wardens were excellent overall, there were a couple of occasions where they could be quite brusk in their response for fairly simple queries which did upset me a little, especially as I had only just arrived and it was one of my first interactions. I have worked in customer services for many years and whilst customers can be an irritation especially when you are busy, they are the key to your site being a success, so if a customer says “excuse me….?” rolling your eyes, huffing and puffing to a customer because you have been asked something whilst you are busy walking somewhere, is not a great way to keep repeat custom, it’s not your home, we are not guests, it’s a business and we are paying customers, giving a A Class service is so important.

Finally the one and only route into the site is incredibly narrow, so it can be a challenge. Vans leave between 9am and 11am, so I would avoid turning up early as you will be forced to reverse, which is a challenge. Same when you are leaving, try to go between these times so you are all going the same way.

Summary;

Would I go again, yes definitely if the facilities are updated, it’s a nice location, overall experience was good, a couple of stars lots for the above reasons, but not enough to put me off ever coming back. Thank you.

We had a beautiful few days at the Blue Hills. The owners certainly go the extra mile to make your stay enjoyable. We are motorhomers, and once we have arrived at our site, we like to walk everywhere. We hadn’t realised that the nearest shop was in St Agnes, (a fairly strenuous long walk away) and ran out of milk. Martin phoned Ginny who was shopping in their nearest large supermarket, and she very kindly returned with a large carton of milk for us. Such kindness meant a lot to us. We had a lovely stay, the facilities are spotless, and the friendliness of the staff made sure we will return

Stayed at Blue hills in July 2021. Met by Ginny at the entrance and welcomed to the site and shown where we were. Everything explained by Martin and Ginny, showing us where everything was. Not a massive site but superbly laid out to give loads of space. Matting and Ginny are a font of local information and gave us some great tips( beautiful beaches, walks and sunsets over the sea). Site is super clean, toilets and showers spotless and cleaned all the time. We were on pitch 3 a grass grid/grass hard standing pitch in our camper van with awning. Site is a massive dog friendly site with a fence starter field leading into Hayleys Meadow a large open area where woof can run. The walks along the coastal paths are breathtaking. Turn right out of the site walk down the hill to Trevellas Porth and turn left to walk over the top to St Agnes or Right to you go over top to Perranporth. We walked over to St Agnes and a beautiful steep walk but amazing views and down into the cove. About 20 mins there and about 30 back. We got hit by Storm Evert on our last night and crazy winds but that is the coast for you. If you want to see an amazing sunset walk towards the cliffs at perranporth airfield. We sat up on the WW2 bunkers and watched the sunset into the ocean. Amazing. I can not recommend this site enough. Friendly, helpful, clean, great location. Loved it and will be back. Alvon.

Stayed here one night whilst walking the SWCP. An excellent campsite for hikers. There was a bench on our pitch which gave us a much needed seat at the end of a day's walking (very much appreciated). The use of a kettle and somewhere to charge our phones was much welcomed too. The toilet and shower block very well maintained and spotless. Nice and quiet too. Lots of local information available. Highly recommend

We are currently on this site. The pitches are large and overall, despite being dated, the facilities are clean and tidy. Our booling email told us of a gate access to our camping field being a certain width which was fine for our touring caravan. What was not mentioned was the access via a single track lane. This is currently very overgrown and on arrival we had scratches from the hedges all along one side of our relatively new caravan. We found a very local caravan and camping supplies shop and are currently working hard with a product to remove the scratches . This access situation should be detailed on the website as we would not have booked it had we known. I doubt the site have any control over the maintenance of those hedges but the single track lane should be highlighted given that they promote the site for touring caravans. Otherwise it’s a good site in a beautiful spot.

We have been regular visitors to blue hills for the past 8 years so were a bit apprehensive about visiting under new ownership. We needn’t have been as the site is just as well looked after as before with the same friendly family atmosphere.
The site itself has clean facilities, and is really well laid out. Access to the airfield and the beach is easy and there are miles of walks right on your doorstep.
We took our puppy with us, and she had a Brilliant time. The site is very dog friendly and the pitches are spread out enough for all of them to have their own space. There were no issues with noisy dogs at all.
The site wardens are amazing and dealt with a problem we had straightaway. They are so friendly and went out of their way to come and chat with us. They are always on site.

With regards to location, it’s perfect for us as we want somewhere peaceful. If you’re expecting nightlife and a party atmosphere then it’s not for you. Perranporth and St Agnes are only a 10 minute drive in either direction and both villages have a good selection of shops.
We hope to visit again soon, thank you so much.

Is there a limit to the number of dogs allowed per booking? Thinking of 2 possibly 3? Thank you xx
Answer from ginnyb29

Hi, thanks for the question. We don't restrict the number of dogs per unit. We do suggest that if you are bringing a larger number (over 3) they are 'managed' well when using the dog field, i.e. Perhaps just take a few at a time into the field so you can keep an eye on their toileting needs!
