We booked a 2 night stay here for a well needed relaxation break. There are various good points to hi-light and sadly some disappointing ones. The location and setting for the hotel are stunning and upon arrival Miranda on reception was very welcoming and friendly. We had booked a king superior suite and this certainly lived up to its name, very spacious, comfortable and worthy of the 4* star rating ensuring we enjoyed a really good nights sleep both nights. We had booked this as a spa break and had no intention of leaving the hotel however this was not meant to be. There is no availability for lunch or a relaxed area for coffee and maybe cake in the morning so we had to drive into Wadebridge to have lunch, we are familiar with Wadebridge but just a nuisance that we had to go out. For a 4* hotel this really does not make sense. Had the breakfast been better we may not have felt the need to venture out but on the first morning apart from the waitress not being there for the first 10 mins there was some cereal, few pots of strawberry yogurt and some brown and white basic pre-sliced bread by a toaster. We assumed any cooked would have to ordered which we did but I wasn't convinced on the quality of the produce ie in Cornwall I expect all local produce to be used and the sausages were most definitely not! Frozen hash browns as well as tin tomatoes all seemed a bit 3* hotel. The next morning the cooked breakfasts were all prepared and being kept warm as a help yourself buffet hence hard fried eggs and soggy bacon, a platter of fruit was available the 2nd morning but there was no pastries on either day or healthy options of a fruit basket, nuts etc.The evening menu was limited and the same both nights however this was better quality than breakfast and the staff in the evening restaurant were really friendly, accommodating offering great service. We had pre booked a couple of treatments each, facials were very good however massage did not really hit the spot. The pool area offered sauna, steam and jacuzzi which was good although cold in the mornings. The changing rooms could definitely benefit from a small spin dryer especially for those staying to rinse out swimwear but overall clean and well maintained. Unbelievably you have to hire bath robes....a 4* hotel...really! We've stayed in lesser hotels than what this is rated as and had them provided in the rooms as standard and the towel you are given for the spa area is only a small towel, you'd be better taking the large thick ones from the room. There are a lot of moans here but I think it's the expectation of what the hotel advertises is on offer, overall we did manage to chill and relax and make the most of the facilities. The actual accommodation and its location are lovely but I do not think it should be classed as a 4* Spa Hotel.

Had an obvernight stay arranged by friends following a rather stressful few months with a view to our taking time out to de stress, relax and recharge somewhat worn down batteries. Being from Cornwall myself, I have driven many Cornish Country roads over the years, and the route from the main A30 is a little bit challenging, but once you arrive at the Hotel it is well worth it ! First impressions count, and I must say the young lady at reception was extremely welcoming and friendly and we checked in early and went straight to our room. Did I say room ? I should say Penthouse apartment. A beautifully decorated and furnished suite of ample proportions, the bathroom al;one being the size of some upmarket hotels we have stayed in previous years. The hotel is spotlessly clean, and once you find your way around quite easy to navigate. The wife spent the afternoon in the Spa, myself the pool, following which we returned to our room, booking an early table for dinner that evening on the way. First stop for the evning was the bar. Well stocked, good range of draught beers, and a welcoming, friendly and very efficient barman made for an enjoyable hour before ordering then being shown to our table. Main Course and dessert was included in our stay, so we both opted for Steak as main which was, to say the least, absolutely First Class, followed by a very nice local cheeseboard, coupled with a very nice Red wine made for a highly enjoyable meal. An early night, a great night's sleep and up in the morning ready for a good breakfast. The breakfasts are served buffet style, but the young waitress was continually checking that the breakfast items were looking fresh and well stoicked, so we sat down to what proved to be a very enjoyable, tasty and filling full English brekkie.....I do tend to judge hotels by the standard of the breakfast and Hustyn's certainly stepped up to the plate in this respect. We left and travelled home slowly, feeling totally refreshed, relaxed and chilled out. An absolutely cracking short stop, which we will certainly look to repeat in the not too distant future. Well done Hustyns.........First Class !

We are here for 4 nights. Yesterday there was a melt down due to staff illness and one person quitting without notice. The result was that breakfast was delayed for over an hour for some guests. We aborted after 20 minutes having heard the time frames and ate elsewhere.

Having said that there were some 60 peope for breakfast with two staff and despite their efforts to move staff from other departments to help out in what has to be declared a crisis, the machinery of feeding 60 people was simply impossible.

As someone who spends a lot of time in hotels all over the world, stuff happens and it is the way it is dealt with that matters. The staff could not apologise enough, the Restaurant manager, Duncan, came to see us after we fedback on the crisis. we explained that it was important he heard honest feedback and thats what we gave him and he acted most apologetically, reduce our room rate and offerred a dinner free for us. This does not mean we were bought off, we are succesful business people and didnt need a free meal, honestly, but It was a genuine attempt to put things right. So we accepted and stayed on.

This hotel is a bit of a gem, the suite we have is really well appointed and the grounds are very pleasant. The staff are friendly courteous and wel presented. So in summary yes there was an unfortunate crisis yesterday but we are enjoying our stay.

One final point is that when you are angry or dissappointed there is no need to call a youngs 18/19 a stupid bitch and bring her to tears. Thats just bullying, use your head and be realistic - have you never made a mistake or had a problem in your work or business, i know I have, so get over yourselves!

The website and even some of the reviews make this hotel seem quite unlike it really is. Do not waste your money - more of a 2 star at most. All the photos make it look much cleaner, modern and worth the expense. It is not. Really dated. Not wifi, so they say you can have 1/2 free telephone! We had a swim session, but were advised by the life guard not to use the jacquizzi as the acid in it would dissolve us, I think he just wanted to go home as he just stood around the pool with his arms folded looking at us. Evening meal was suprisingly ok but dinning room had as much atmosphere as the dark side of the moon. The only other couple in the dinning room were disgusted with the whole place, as were a family that had booked 5 days and paid over 1K.. Breakfast was a shambles - firstly there was no fresh fruit at all (and lets remember this hotel is billing itself as, a luxury 4 star spa resort, when I said this to the receptionist she said, ' Yes alot of people have requested fruit'. The toast was like the cheapest sort of bread that makes cardboard seem a better option. I had ordered grilled tomatos, they were raw and cut in half. Husband had the cooked, and he said it was cheap and nasty and he thought he may have just eaten some pig lips.
We paid the bill, only later did not realise that we had not had any money taken off for the dinner. The only good thing about this hotel was leaving it. I truly believe that there is something really odd about any favourable review and am looking into an investigation. The grounds are overgrown and dated, the entrance is superficially as it looks well kept, but the place should close or have a major revamp. Please don't waste your money.

We bought a groupon voucher for £124 for two adults in a executive room which also included dinner and breakfast. We have an 12 month old however and decided to bring her too. Our room was absolutely massive, could not fault it, so we brought our own travel cot, and our baby loved crawling all over the room. Dinner was nice also, because our baby wasn’t included on the deal, we paid extra for her dinner, the chef had hers out immediately and spoke to us in person and we were very happy with this. We took her swimming but under 5’s were free so didn’t pay for her then. The swimming pool was also warm and nice family changing facilities, can’t fault that. And at breakfast time, our breakfast was included for us but she picked at some of ours. We went to check out and because we never said we were bringing a baby we had to pay another £25. I just thought this was quite unfair because by us bringing a baby, the hotel did not suffer a loss in anyway, (except a few breakfast items) we paid for her dinner and she was free to go swimming. We’d paid for a large room and brought our own cot. When you do book and declare that you’re bringing a child, the prices increase dramatically as it adds on an extra bed, but obviously if you have an infant you don’t need a bed so this is why it was never declared, hustyns don’t give you the option to say how old the child is and just add a cot on. I just thought this was a bit cheeky as my partner and I have been to plenty of hotels in the past 12 months who completely understand why you don’t add on your child because they’re so little and you bring your own cot anyway, and we’ve never had this issue.

For the amount we paid, we expected some level of accomodation, instead were met with a hotel that didn't even meet the basic requirements.
No hot water, only luke warm at best! No help given.
Booked a twin room, were given a king, so one of the party had to sleep on a camp bed (at least they provided one).
Dinner was poor, both food quality and service.
The only redeeming feature was the location is good to get to major spots of interest, but only if you can drive on country roads.
Will 100% not be recommending.

Myself and my partner visited this hotel as a valentines weekend getaway, and this ‘luxury spa hotel’ seemed perfect for what we wanted. However, upon arrival and checking in, we soon found out that the ‘luxury’ facilities were actually a family friendly leisure centre that was full of children. This we found very disappointing. We had also booked spa treatments in advance, but found out on arrival that spa robes had to be hired at a cost of £5 per robe plus £5 cash deposit (who carries cash?!).
Breakfast was also a huge letdown. We arrived for breakfast at 9AM (breakfast served between 8 and 10) and found that the hot buffet breakfast was nearly empty and what was left was cold. The toasters weren’t plugged in and the pastries were all gonna and not replaced. After 30 minutes of waiting, we had to ask for the hot buffet to be replenished.
The free WiFi throughout the hotel was of poor quality and extremely slow, not worth using.
However, not all bad, the room itself was very clean and huge (although the balcony door lock was broken) and the evening meal was ok too (if not slightly over priced).
Overall a disappointing experience, one that we won’t be doing again.

I think it might be easy at this hotel to get a bit heated if it were your , long awaited dream vacation.

We spent a night here after a few stops around Cornwall, it came across as a fairly high cost compared to other hotels.
But considering the facilities , we thought go for it. We did not read any reviews.

We were warmly welcomed by Michelle, clearly instructed on the routine, for restaurant timing, breakfast ordering etc, which seemed a little strange.
But as we explored this extraordinary hotel and vast grounds, with corridors and passages which are clearly signed but a little maize like and well established gardens (well suited to packs of young children playing hide and seek or man-hunt in) we realised this hotel has changed hands recently and is very lightly staffed with young enthusiastic British staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble, it is obvious they are working to clearly planned parameters, to manage the workload .

The standard of the food in the high volume capacity restaurant is good, well prepared, hot where expected.

The staff are very polite, obviously fairly newly trained, but very willing.

I don’t think my post graduate kids could be trained to any higher degree in a short time.

In the restaurant there were happy families and couples of all ages, all content.

The vast grounds of this hotel, which is the size of the Belfry, are showing signs of neglect from months of vacancy, but also signs of hard work towards recovery and I would be interested to see the grounds and buildings given another years full trading and titivation.

I do feel, there should be an welcoming explanation by the Upper management of what is happening here , the position, the objective, the things they are aware of and an offer of a loyalty type discount for 2021/22 customers to encourage them to return, as I believe this small resort or retreat is a potentially great family location and facility. The security a safety feel for young ones we get where in or around the likes of a Centre Parcs.

Like any UK business in hospitality that has suffered Covid related horrors, without the simplicity of adapting to just surviving on takeaways for income, this and all these businesses need our pound, if we want our small island to be as strong as it can be, we need to possibly turn a blind eye to shortages in staffing roles, where we have been spoilt in the past with foreign bodies filling those roles.

We will likely visit again, if only to see how this Hotel resort has progressed.

In my opinion, as a family person, worth a visit.

I could go on, but my wife wants her phone back, so I will say,,

Let your kids be the judge !

Since reading some of these reviews, I felt I needed to intervene and tell you not to believe everything you read. Some of these reviews are very farfetched and dramatic. I have been coming to the hotel for over 3 years and I love it here. All the staff are genuinely lovely and will do anything they can to help you. I know for a fact that new staff have been taken on in recent weeks, and that they are most definitely being trained, unlike some of the reviews state. They may well be nervous, as it could be their first day, so please be kind to these staff. I am sure they are doing everything they can to build their confidence and make your visit/stay as enjoyable as possible.
We all must remember that these are hard times and COVID19 is affecting everyone. It is currently a new way of living and companies are still getting used to all their new procedures, and we as customers must respect and understand this. They aren’t doing it for fun. The procedures that they have put in place are for keeping all guests safe. It is also peak season, so starting a job at this time is probably quite a challenge. Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it’s challenging for current staff working there anyway. But if everyone just has a bit of patience and understanding, everything will be just fine and you will enjoy your visit, as I always do.
I regularly use the leisure facilities here and have to say that they have done an amazing job at organising all the COVID safety procedures. They are noticeably cleaning in-between each session, which makes me feel safe and at ease. I personally don’t think that the leisure staff are given enough credit for what they do. After all, everyone wants a nice local pool/gym, and this is most definitely a luxury when booking a trip away somewhere. The staff are always very friendly and have always done anything to help me if I’ve needed it, so credit where credit is due.
I have only eaten here a few times, but when I have, the food has been incredible. The chefs are very talented indeed. Often, when I visit the facilities in the evening for a swim, I can smell the food cooking as it drifts down through the corridor, and it is just the most amazing smell. I challenge anyone to say otherwise. The staff have always been lovely and attentive during my time in the restaurant, and they always look to be working very hard, so I don’t know how anyone could fault their efforts.
Instead of being so quick to judge the staff at this hotel, maybe try chatting to them and being friendly, as they all are very easy to chat to. Have you ever thought that maybe the disgruntled people leaving terrible reviews on here are the problem? Maybe they were having a bad day and one minor mistake may have tipped them over the edge? Everyone makes mistakes after all. I do think that a lot of these reviews are totally uncalled for, and personally, I find them unbelievable based on all my positive experiences over the past 3 years. I guess you will have to visit for yourself to see. But come with an open mind, and not the view that the negative reviews have managed to build.

Lovely big room with everything you needed. Friendly helpful staff. Great facilities and very Covid conscious.
The breakfast service was well organised and the food was beautifully presented and delicious.
Only negative is that the hotel is a little tired looking in places however it appears plans are in place for some refurbishment. With the Covid restrictions your room is not cleaned daily, however this service is available if requested.
All in all a very pleasant stay.
