Cottage was large and well-appointed. The owners made us feel welcome. We enjoyed our stay here and will return if ever in the area. Worth the trip a couple of miles outside of Hill City downtown area.

We had two cottages. One for Grandpa and one for my family of five. It was clean, affordable, close to major attractions, and the owner was very helpful. We had the Nautical cottage and we got a portable bed and it had two queens, so it fit our family of 5. Fridge, coffee pot, and microwave. No utensils, FYI. So... More

Stayed in cabin called Aspen. Newly built, the cabin has been very well built. Spacious inside and well furnished. Chuck, the owner, was quite superb. Ultra helpful and full of good local advice. He has worked hard to set this place up. BBQ's to grill in the evening, and a log fire lit around 7 pm every evening made this... More

We stayed here for one night while visiting Mount Rushmore. We had the Tropical cottage and it was perfect for two people. The owners were extremely nice and helpful. Our room was extremely clean. I didn't feel the need to bring out the Lysol wipes. In the bathroom, there was mini Bath and Body Works soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and... More

After spending 10 days hitting motel after motel, we wanted a place where we could catch our breath. Whispering Winds did the trick wonderfully. Family owned and operated, we felt like we were visiting friends. The unit we had felt like a cabin, but was a wonderfully appointed room with a bath. Simple but super comfortable. At night our hosts... More

This place is wonderful. It is right on the highway and a few miles from Hill City. The owners are super super nice and the cottage was so clean, it was the first place that I have ever stayed, that I didn't pull out the disinfectant wipes. It had a refrigerator, and I believe there was a microwave. They have... More

We stayed here in July 2016. My husband is on a wheelchair and we stayed in the Aspen cabin. It worked out great for us. The cottages are well furnished and the owners are on-site and attentive. The location is wonderful. Close to everything and still quiet.

They have both camper spots and cabins to rent. The campers have full hookups. The cabins are all different sizes, on the small side but nice overall. They have a nice bathroom facility (one men and one women) with a shower. They have a laundry room with one washer and one dryer, but the prices are too expensive for a... More

Family of 5 (kids ages 13, 12, 11) enjoyed the clean, spacious new Family Cabin at the Whispering Winds Cottages. Easy location that was central to Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park and Hill City. Gorgeous community area that included plenty of seating, grills and a fire pit. We really enjoyed the laid-back vibe that included a nightly fire-pit - bring... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in the Sportmans Cottage! It was fitting for our large family and overall comfortable. Chuck the owner was extremely friendly and nice. We didn't take advantage of the cottage/resort amenities since it was a quick trip. Just a couple things to improve on was the pull out didn't have sheets and they were no... More

“They have cabins with a kitchen in them but with the grills open to everyone you wouldn't need it. All cabins have a fridge so we just bought stuff at the store and brought a cast iron pan and cooked eggs and bacon on grill for breakfast, went out for lunch, and cooked on campfire at night for supper.”
