Filthy Hostel with surly staff. One guy sat on the porch and groped about hikers (their main clientele), one guy was high the entire time, and the third staff member was angry and yelled at customers at least three times during my visit. The common kitchen was terribly dirty. The "laundry" turns out to be a washboard in the kitchen...

The best thing about this place is its location. After a long hike out of the Smokies its a great place to stop, rest and resupply. Ive heard negative comments about the place (only a porta potty, shower water pressure), but as hostels go its way better than some. Clean sheets, hot food, shower and lots of interesting people. They...

My son and I stopped to spend the night and try to get a shuttle out the next day to pick up a rental car. The owner, Maria, very kindly and generously offered to get us there that night before they closed. This meant less money for her because we did not stay. She really cares about the wellbeing of...

We stopped here for a few hours during our AT thru-hike. Lumpy was so friendly and the whole ambiance very cozy and relaxing. We didn't stay overnight, but did manage a very solid resupply. They had anything you could be looking for, including cold beers! Whether you pop in for a pit stop or stay the night, definitely worth the...

Definitely the grungy hiker hostel which I had no problem with along my two month AT section hike last year, it's just part of the experience! They also board dogs through the smokies as they aren't allowed through that section. I had phone conversations ahead of time and everyone was so nice and made me feel at ease sending my...

Awesome atmosphere -- relatively good resupply - cool people. It's obviously not a luxury hotel, but it's the type of atmosphere that caters well to thru hikers. I took a Nero here and had a great time. Fires at night, and really fair pricing.

Let's strty with the positives. The shower is hot, the food is reasonably priced especially considering how limited dining options are in the area, Lumpy and Morgan are friendly and helpful. There's an overall kicked back, down home atmosphere here that I enjoy. I know this is a rustic hostel in the hills and sure didn't expect anything fancy. That...

Our group stopped as a midpoint of our week hike on the AT from Hot Springs NC to Newfound Gap. Very friendly, Maria and Lumpy were great. Half our group stayed over in the cabin and half were shuttled back to Hot Springs. Prices were very reasonable for being the only option available in that area on the AT. Good...

Very fine place. Cabin is very comfortable and straddles a creek. Plenty of good food. Friendly social atmosphere. Rocket is very helpful and a great host. Kitchen to cook in, microwave, pizza oven. Warm shower. We've made a point of going there 3 years in a row. "I'll be back."

I stayed here when I thru-hiked in 2012. I never got a round to posting a review, but I saw the negative review from hikingman, and I had to chime in. First of all, this is a hostel! This is NOT the Hilton or Hampton! If you're a true hiker, and a thru-hiker at that, this is an oasis. It's...
