Welcome to Tig Congaile. This family-run B&B is situated on Inis Meain the most untouched of the three Aran Islands. Tig Congaile's tranquil atmosphere and exceptional and serene views of Inis Oirr, the cliffs of Moher and the islands unique landscape, lend towards the rest and revitalization of its visitors, who return time and time again for this very quality. It is also situated a mere 5 minutes walk from the island's traditional pub, where all the locals and visitors can come together to experience a bit of ceol agus craic. And another 5 minute walk in the opposite direction and you will arrive at one of the island's beaches. Your hosts will be Padraig Conneely, a native islander and his wife Vilma, a Guatemalan cook. They started the B&B together from the ground up, and continue to dedicate themselves to making your stay a pleasant and memorable one.

Lovely spot. A warm welcome from Vilma - because of the time of year and of the Covid restrictions, we were the only people staying in the B&B but there were others who just had dinner there in the evenings. We also ate there and the food was lovely - lobster one evening and I recommend Vilma's goats cheese and spinach omelette in the morning! The room was clean and spacious. The views from the house out over Inis Oirr and the Cliffs of Moher are spectacular. I would definitely stay here again!

Gorgeous b&b with fabulous views. Hostess was so charming & knowledgeable about the island. Extremely helpful. Room very clean & comfortable. Food was exceptional - fresh fish for dinner, great selection of healthy options for breakfast.

Vilma is an absolute delight. Pleasant, funny, considerate and helpful. I felt very relaxed and comfortable instantly. Vilma’s assistant is an amazing cook and the dinners are delicious! Absolutely worth the price. I had one of the tastiest steaks I’ve ever had, which was cooked to perfection, during my stay! The B&B itself is spotlessly clean and tidy and the beds are very comfortable. My room had an amazing view out across the shore (picture from my bed included). It is less than a 10 minute stroll to the beach, where I was able to have a swim each morning before breakfast (pic included). I also had the whole beach to myself. I will definitely be returning to Vilma’s and next time with my family.

We loved our stay! Vilma is a lovely host and human. She treated us to the most delicious of meals and warmed my husband and I’s hearts. We had a gorgeous view of “the island’s” landscape & surrounding water. I can’t wait to come back for a longer visit! Sending our love!

Bad experience.

Booked two single ensuite rooms for three nights via Wilma at Tig Congaile B&B.
Wilma sent an email confirming the bookings.

Arrived 7:30 p.m. Wilma said only one room was available. (I assume someone else requested a room and she gave them one of ours to maximise her income by renting both rooms at double rather than single rates.)

Wilma acted frazzled: She claimed she’d made a mistake and would find us rooms later as she had a big group to feed. (Her dining room was ¾ empty and it was 7:45 p.m.) We were already overdue for a 7:45 p.m. dinner reservation, so went to dinner and returned at 10 p.m.

Wilma said all she had was one room ensuite and one room with the bath across the hall. When I told her that a not-ensuite room was unacceptable, she told me to leave if I thought I could do better. Of course, at 10 p.m., that was not an option. I asked about the adjusted-cost of the room not ensuite, and she said, “That room has its own bath; it’s just across the hall—so the cost is the same.” Great if you don’t mind having to leave your room every time you want to use the facilities.

Had little choice but to stay that first night, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work. Also, the right side of her B&B where our rooms were was noisy—specifically what one goes to Inis Meain to escape. I could hear people talking, opening, locking and unlocking doors—that hall bath?

I left the next morning. I tried to book dinner at An Dun that night and learned that, based on a phone call from Wilma, they refused. Too bad, as they only had a few diners and could have made more money if Wilma hadn’t been so worried about protecting her false reputation.

Singles—anyone, for that matter—beware of Tig Congaile.

If you do book with Tig Congaile, make sure you confirm the meaning of ensuite—or better yet, save yourself the trouble and book with An Dun.

Vilma, who runs this B&B, is a gem. A real character and an absolutely terrific cook. Fresh-baked mini-muffins at breakfast - she gave me the recipe and I've made them a few times since - and a really delicious evening meal with such delicacies as seaweed tempura and home-made limoncello ice-cream, made this a place to remember. Inis Meain itself is, of course, a magical place for walks and swims and seaviews and peace. Highly recommend Tig Congaile.

Spent two lovely nights at Tig Congaile in late August, the first night we were the only guests. There were probably five tourists on the entire island during those two days which meant it was incredibly quiet and relaxing. I had one of the best nights of sleep of my entire life! Our room was clean and the house was very comfortable. We had views of the cargo pier, Inisheer and the Cliffs of Moher from our window. Vilma was a great hostess and it was lovely to chat with her about life on the island. The pub is about a 5 minute walk as is the path leading to the other side of the island (which has amazing rock formations). The ferry pier was about a 35 minute walk - taxis are available but we opted to get the exercise.

Anyone staying here should know that Vilma's restaurant is amazing, and one of the few dining options on the island! The first night we opted to try her seafood - it was all fresh and delicious - try the scallop and black pudding appetizer! The next evening we opted for soup and bread and tried her dessert menu - the chocolate chip and apricot cake was a perfect end to the meal!

Went there for a relaxing week-end 18th & 19th Sep 2015. Inis Meain is much more peaceful than either Inis Mor or Inis Oirr. We had our evening meal in Tigh Conaighle on both evenings - Wilma the proprietor is an excellent cook & the food is of a high standard. Not to be missed on the island are the Harry Clarke stained glass windows in the local church

Just back from 4 fabulous nights on Inis Mean , Aran Islands , Ireland. I stayed at the most relaxing perfect bed and breakfast ever with the charming , exuberant , warm and welcoming Vilma! Her husband Padraic brought home fresh lobster , crab , mackerel ,and other delicious fish early every morning . These were lovingly prepared by a Vilma and served with flair and a twist accompanied by amazing sea vegetables ..( yes , I didn't know much about them either !), garden fresh cabbages, beetroot, scallios, carrot, salad leaves from the garden , potatoes , wonderful soups and chowders were on menu with unusual starters including fresh salmon smoked by Vilma ...all just delicious. the desserts were beyond wonderful , just imagine the tantalising flavours of beetroot and chocolate pudding , irresistible ! My room had a magnificent view over the sea towards Inis Siar and the delightful Ciffs of Moher glowed pink as the evening sun set over Galway Bay. I met other wonderful guests all equally happy and glowing with happiness , the atmosphere at Tigh Chonaigaile encourages guests to chat and share their days' experiences and firm friendships emerged over 2 or 3 days .. The island itself is a haven of peace, tranquility, bird life , flowers, beaches, rocks , walls , ancient monuments, and beautiful people genuinely interested in sharing with visitors. I will be returning as soon and as frequently as possible .

We stayed at Tig Congaile in late Oct 2013, the last stop of a weeklong trip through Ireland, in celebration of our 25th anniversary. We were looking forward to the craggy ancient remoteness of the place...sort of a retreat, not to mention the quality of food in Vilma's kitchen. It was beyond all our expectations. We were disappointed to hear Vilma had been called away for a death in the family, but her daughter, AnnaMarie and sweetheart, Malcolm, stepped up to the task and blew our doors down with charm and hospitality and an amazing romantic dinner for two by candlelight! We even got a sample of their new batch of elder flower wine!
Dont miss this jewel of a place in the Emerald Isle.
