Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I will start off by saying...I'm not easily pleased. I am not a difficult person - but to blow me away is not an easy feet...and this country residence did just this in spades. From start to finish - booking to leaving - it was beyond anything we could have imagined. Its is located in the most beautiful landscape that feeds your soul. The owners and Kim have created a pure heaven sent experience in Co Monoghan. The service is unobtrusive, relaxed but pure five-star treatment. The rooms (the pics dont do it justice!) are a testement to their refined taste but also respectfully and lovingly restored to their former glory. The food was incredible - again, a testement to their style. Beautiful local ingrediants served simply, not over the top - but executed faultlessly. To be honest, I am not often a person to write a review - good or bad...but the magic in the place and the service of creating a magical weekend to celebrate my mother was beyond anything I could've hoped for. The memories we will have forever - but I have already started thinking of reasons to go back and create some more. Please, please PLEASE do yourself a favour - book here immediately and take some time out to reflect on why we are all here - your question will be answered in no time - of that I am sure.

Hilton Park provided us with a perfect de-stressing weekend. An historic house which is both a time capsule of Irish history and a proper family home. Completely unstuffy and unpretentious but as grand as get out! Covid 19 sorted: You are safe and secure in the hosts' sanitised hands and you will be met with sincere and smiling faces behind the visors and masks. Run by the wonderful Joanna and Fred with their charming and attentive team. Fantastic food cooked by Fred. Stunning and characterful bedrooms providing deep and undisturbed sleep. Long walks in the glorious grounds. Wonderful company & conversations to be had with the other guests, hosts and staff (not forgetting Malachy & Frankie - the totally chilled out Jack Russell terriers). Made to feel like an old family friend not like a customer Go and support these fantastic people and have the best of times in these oddest of times.

It was our second visit to Hilton Park and we can’t wait to be back! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome. The rhubarb pie on arrival was scrumptious. Dinner was top notch, what you’d expect in a very nice restaurant. Breakfast was equally as good, those freshly baked muffins went down a treat. But it wasn’t just the food, the whole weekend was fantastic. We were a little concerned that the kids might get bored but with so much to do they had a ball and can't wait to go back. It’s rare to find a place where you can relax and feel so at home so easily. The house has natural charm but it’s the warmth and generosity of Joanna and Fred that make Hilton Park the gem that it is. Thank you guys, Mark & Marina

What a wonderful spot! Joanna, Kim and Fred are most welcoming and accommodating! Quirky rooms, amazing food, glorious grounds and utter peace are the highlights of our stay. Oh, and of course the brisk dip in the lake!! Fred’s food is absolutely divine. And small little touches like homemade elderflower cordial and welcoming cakes just made our weekend truly memorable.

I had seen Hilton on a TV show and thought it a great escape for my Irish Mum and Dad. I'm so happy I went with the charming Joanna & Fred and the terrific stately home.. From first contact (pinging from the US), to the beautifully wrapped package sent to my parents, with great communication along the way; this was a breeze to arrange. Mum and Dad had a hoot, and sent a roster of terrific photos from their relaxed and easy stay. And they dropped me a note to let me know my folks were a joy. Everything about this place is a Class Act, they totally get it. Can't ask for anymore, I just need to make the trip myself ... Thank you

We have recently returned to Canada after a fabulous stay at Hilton Park and are all trying to figure out when our return visit will be. We had an intimate family wedding and our party had complete occupancy of the guest suites. From our initial contact with Joanna last year, we were so excited in anticipation of our Hilton Park visit. Joanna and Fred were so thorough working with us on menu planning, suggestions for flowers, room assignments and answered all of our queries with graciousness. The wedding planning for our stay at Hilton Park was a pleasure. The Madden family and staff were professional on a business level and absolutely lovely on personal level. We were welcomed into their home and they literally opened their doors for us to explore and enjoy. Stacks of journals, books and historical papers made for engrossing reading. Gardens for strolling, lawns for playing games - for children of all ages - and just an overall ambience that draws you in. Forests carpeted with bluebells, stunning varieties of flowers, baby lambs, even a rooster welcoming our morning light. Host children who happily helped, joining in games as participants . Even the two pups, Frank and Malachy provide guided escort around the lake for the short cut to the pub! Endless examples of the enchanted stay Hilton Park presents. The meals we enjoyed left us anticipating the next feast. Field to fork freshness with homemade preserves, freshly baked bread and homegrown produce. Magic happens in Fred’s domain. I cannot refrain from heaping praise on this fabulous establishment but am selfishly worried it could make future visits harder to schedule. Joanna and Fred, we are so grateful for your attention to detail, but mostly we are grateful for the beautiful memories you gave us. Thank you.

Joanna and Fred could not be nicer hosts and the property is simply stunning. The food was Michelin standard and it is an incredibly relaxed and beautiful place to stay. We had a fantastic couple of days and would heartily recommend it to anyone. Thanks very much for having us to stay.

This was booked as a surprise location for a group of 14 of us for a birthday celebration. And what a surprise it was. Just a wonderful old house, filled with charm, character, history and the warmest of welcome from joanna and all the team. We had the most fabulous food for dinner each evening and a wonderful selection of locally sourced fresh produce for breakfast. During the day we enjoyed the grounds and the evening enjoyed the open fires and the wine lists! Anything we wanted or asked for was provided and always with the usual and heartfelt “my pleasure”. We did additional activities of clay shooting and archery which was great fun - and made so easy for us to do. This was a special celebration and in an absolutely unique and wonderful “olde world” location. We couldn’t have asked for more
