Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I cannot say enough about this beautiful country house or it’s fantastic hosts, Philomena & John. We booked last minute but were met by John who brought us hot tea and warm scones in the scullery. The place is just so homely, it’s basically like staying at Grandma’s house (even though they weren’t old enough to be our grandparents!!) but still it was just like that, such a homely and welcoming place. The breakfast was just fabulous, with absolutely everything. We stayed two nights, the first night we had reservations at The Duck at nearby Marlfield House in Gorey and Philomena even drove us there instead of us getting a taxi. We stayed in room 6, a beautiful big room with a lovely balcony overlooking the back garden, the bed was so comfy and the bed linen was just so beautiful. Philomena was just the best host with such a fabulous sense of humour and she was full of knowledge of the area and beyond. We were staying there during a two week roadtrip of Southern Ireland and it was a pleasure to stay there, we were both sad to leave. Definitely the emerald in the crown of Southern Ireland. Thank you both for making our stay so fabulous xx

We stayed three nights at Woodlands. This is a nice and clean place to stay. Very welcoming hosts and great Irish breakfasts. We had a lovely room with a small balcony and the room was fairly large, comfortable and well appointed. Good shower, probably the best in two weeks since leaving Sydney. Internet was most reliable. Good parking. Nice big bath towels.

We have literally just spent the night here, recommended by Marlfield House and from the moment you turn in the gate it is easy to see why! A beautiful old Georgian house with stunning mature gardens... Around an old courtyard. Our beautiful room has a balcony looking out over the gardens... The very gracious hosts John & Philomena looked after us exceptionally well. Fantastic stay. Thank you! Adrienne & Paul

A stunning location. Very warm welcome and beautiful room. A very friendly and relaxing place to spend the night. There was even a honesty bar if you fancied a beer. As one person had written " it was like staying at your favourite Aunts' Can't recommend Woodlands enough.

Secluded, quiet location. Car needed but taxis available if going into Gorey to eat in the evenings. Scones and tea on arrival. Very old world but with wifi to boot. Away from traffic, tennis courts, pond and woodland on grounds. Fabulous breakfast grown in house garden or sourced locally. Tranquil and luxurious stay and I will be back.

On arrival we were given tea and hot scones, jam and cream. The place was spotless and eclectically and comfortably furnished with lots of antiques. Our bedroom was large and comfortable with views of the garden [no. 6]. We wandered round the large garden and if the day had been better would have enjoyed some peaceful reading by the large pond. As for breakfast the next day, it couldn't be faulted. A great selection of fresh fruit as well - all beautifully prepared.

We stayed in woodlands country house while attending a wedding in a nearby hotel. This wonderful gem of a b&b exceeded expectations. We received a very warm welcome from philomena and her staff, the decor of the house was outstanding, the room was spacious, bright and clean and the garden and setting was idyllic. What really made our stay was the small personal touches;the smell of freshly baked scones which were devoured with our tea in the beautiful sitting room, the gorgeous breakfast with fresh fruit from the garden and the chats with our lovely host. We will definitely be back!

Like staying with a favorite aunt! Wonderful warm house, clean, well-appointed rooms and without doubt the best breakfast we had in our weeklong visit to Ireland. Lovely tea upon our arrival with fresh sweets. Philomena's soda bread was the gold standard.

We decided to try a quality B&B for a change from the hotel scene for our weekend away. My partner, who has chronic asthma is fed up with certain hotels who spray the carpets and mattresses with the chemicals used to kill off anything nasty. Looking at the photos and reviews on this site, of the Woodlands house, we thought it had a certain charm and was in the area we wanted to go to. In reality, the camera lens used for the photos, gives quite a deceptive view of the size of the rooms. Our room was very small and compact, and we asked if a larger room was available. There was one other room, but it only had one window and was not as big as we thought it would have been. It was to the front of the house and had ivy growing all around the window. My partner has a phobia of spiders, and this would have meant keeping the window firmly shut tight, not ideal for someone who wants air. We went back to our room which had a small balcony overlooking the back garden. Despite the fact that several people checked out the next day, they did not offer us any other rooms for our second nights stay, The majority of the house is in character with its Georgian theme, as in everything in the house is antique and as a result, is not entirely the most comfortable. For two people who are not very thin, our bed was a standard double. The breakfast was very nice, and great choices for any taste. The gardens and grounds are impeccably kept, with a lovely walk way along the stream to a little lake. It is a lovely place and very quaint, and does what it says on the tin, but unfortunately, I would not agree with the 5 star rating.
