Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow. Where to begin.... When we first walked up to the place we love the look. It has a beautiful classic facade. We joked at how we already were going to be happy with the place regardless of what we fount inside. But it only went uphill from there. Rather than room numbers, each one has a name. We stayed in the "Edith" room. It was beautifully furnished. Everything from the sheets on the bed to the toiletries in the WC was clearly top tier in quality and elegant in looks. But above all -- at least for us -- the bed itself was extremely comfortable. We had what was probably our best sleep of our entire Europe trip. (We live in the US and were travelling overseas for a couple of weeks). The location is also great. It's immediately adjacent this great market where we would go every day for various eating, cafes, shopping, etc. I think I can say without exaggeration that this was arguably the best hotel experience we've ever had in all of our travels. Not sure when we'll make it back to Jersey -- though we certainly hope to return there -- but not only will this be our go-to place, it's actually one reason we hope to return.

I really enjoyed staying here for four nights. The staff was terrific: helpful, friendly and unfailingly polite. The accommodation is located next to the central market and about a five minute walk to the harbour. There are a couple of the better coffee shops nearby and the bus station for exploring the island is also about a five-ten minute walk away. The place was quiet at night and the room (Percy suite) was well appointed and kept clean. The housekeeper is especially good at her work. Wifi on the third floor could be stronger. This was a really nice example of an independent with character.

With a small child, opportunities for getting out on our own as a couple are few-and-far-between, so we always hope we make the right choice on where to spend our rare time together. So glad we chose Banjo! Telephone calls were handled fantastically and patiently, despite having to alter the booking. We were greeted on arrival to the busy and vibrant restaurant and, since our table was not quite ready, were led to the beautifully lit bar where we enjoyed our order of a bottle of LP Brut champagne. First impressions were already excellent. We also bumped into the owner who took the time to describe his family history and connections to the building and the original banjo from which the restaurant takes its name; a really lovely touch and added so much to the authenticity and character of the place. (You can see his grandfather’s original banjo and some of the records that he recorded on your way down to the very cool lower ground floor where the washrooms are situated… dark & moody lighting which brings with stunning, almost 3D, wallpaper to life) The original features in the interior are stunning (particularly love the curve in the cast iron balustrade going up the impressive central staircase) as we made our way up to the small outdoor smoking ‘cigar’ area on the first floor, and were lucky enough to bump into friendly and gregarious clientele. There are two main dining areas and the ambience where we were seated was perfect… Lighting, just right Music, cool but not to loud as to distract Decor, flashes of beautiful original features (the ceiling is spectacular) I started with the scallops which were served with bacon that literally melted: delicious! My wife started with the crab salad and said it was the best she’d had: praise indeed from a seafood lover. She went on to order the main course scallop dish and concurred at how good it was (along with her creamy mashed potatoes on the side). My rib-eye was delicious, as were the truffle fries. Too full for dessert (a first!) but a wonderful meal nevertheless. Certainly not cheap, but outstanding service from everyone we came into contact with made more impressive by being informed that the tip we offered was discouraged as company policy, since Banjo subscribe to the living wage initiative which ensures staff a paid well enough to not rely on tips. Great to hear. It wasn’t cheap (just under £200 including our bottle of champagne), but certainly well worth the money to be treated & welcomed so warmly and experience first class service, food and atmosphere. Fantastic and highly recommended.

50 plus passengers found themselves stranded at the terminal after a ferry cancellation late at night in July 2022. A passenger contacted The Banjo as they seemed to have room available through air bnb. At 11.45pm they welcomed 2 couples to the hotel and allowed them to stay until 5pm the following day and even let the family of one of the couples use the bathroom facilities. THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the staff that stayed up late to welcome them in the early hours of the morning. They were so accommodating and both couples enjoyed an extremely comfortable sleep.

From the moment we walked into the building we knew this was going to be a memorable occasion. Nothing was too much trouble, we were never rushed, the staff were in the right place at the right time and the food was amazing. Yes it is on the pricey side but we’ll worth it. Looking forward to returning in the near future

A special birthday dinner for my partner on the 4th, we were not disappointed, staff were friendly but not obtrusive, decor is beautiful from the bar to the dinning rooms, and even the loo. food was amazing, well presented with bigger than expected portions, using quality ingredients.

My wife and I ate at banjos in March, 1st night out in ages, meal was terrible 2 fillet steaks came out looking like burgers from McDonalds... prawn starter was pretty shabby too. Overall £200 meal which was quite frankly a poor dining experience. On the plus side the wine was good, the service was okay and the dog enjoyed the half of the fillet steak I brought home for him. Would not go back or recommend Banjos... very disappointing.

Banjo is a restaurant with 4 boutique style rooms on the second floor. They are accessible by a small lift or stairs . There is al loading bay outside which you may be able to use when checking in and out . They are taking the Covid precautions very seriously , and the staff are all wearing masks , and there is hand sanitiser at the entrance . I believe the rooms are all doubles . Mine was very sympathetically decorated , with period style fittings , but with all mod cons as well . Bed was very comfy , nice linen , sash windows which opened allowing fresh air as required . There is also a TV , Bose sound dock , small fridge with fresh milk , water and small bottles of red + white wine , snacks , all complimentary . A Nespresso and pressure kettle also are here with coffee pods and tea bags .There is ample storage . The ensuite bathroom had a very deep bath, with an over bath shower , all worked very well . The mirror over the basin was heated so didn't mist up . The supply "White Company" toiletries . Breakfast is available at extra cost , £13.50 pp , its continental style , warm pastries, fresh fruit salad , yoghurt , juice , toast , butter jam and marmalade . Its maybe a little expensive but it is filling . Banjo is better known for the restaurant , the food there is excellent , but in fabulous surroundings , and a nice br available for pre dinner drinks . All in all a great stay, the staff were lovely nothing was any trouble at all . A real find .

Conveniently located almost in the centre of town, this is a good place to eat, I enjoyed the tempura prawns and their pigeon. The surroundings are comfortable, with good service. It had been quite a while since we last ate here, only because as we are retired, we usually go out of town. But as its Christmas shopping time, we will be back in the next couple of weeks.
