Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was our 6th stay at the Wheatlands. The staff and very helpful and friendly. We had a lovely view over the bay from our bedroom. Rooms are comfortable, bathroom was a little small. We had a lovely meal in the Gastropub, Alex the waiter was very attentive. The golf course is great, dont be put off when you read that is a par 3 course, its very challenging. All in all the Wheatlands is a great place to stay and we will be back again next year

I organised last Friday evening a dinner for 15 colleagues, we agreed the menu in advance; 3 courses and at a very reasonable price and were delighted with the high quality of food and service. This venue has plenty of parking is very convenient for the airport and can truly boast local fresh produce on the menu with a chef that knows what a Gastro Pub should be offering and consistently delivers. I am local to this venue and have used it many times for family and business meals with never a disappointment.

Nice Hotel but dated, proprieter is an accountant and needs to stick to this profession or go on customer relations training. It appeared he had his accountants head on when setting portion controls. Also on keeping his food stocks, no mussels which were still on the menu, no brown bread for breakfast. First night we ate at the Hotel were given free nibbles, second night they didn't even light the candles! Will not return to this frugal in need of refurbishing Hotel. On a positive note staff were nice.

Response from AHJ20101, Owner at Wheatlands Hotel, Gastropub & Golf Course
Responded 19 Sept 2011
For the second time, I am responding to the same review. I refer to my comments in the post "So disappointed". To add, we had received a new batch of mussels in from our supplier the day before, and they were dead the following day. My chef, quite rightly immediately took them off the specials board. We have since changed supplier. Ian Jones, owner

what a lovely place to stay - it is minutes walk from the beach and 30 min walk from st aubin and st helier but the walks are nice. the owners have been there for a couple of years but seems to have done a lot to it, even if it's still lot to do (especially for the bedroom, it felt like stepping back in time but everything in there was spotless and working fine, also good bed)..the restaurant food is fabulous, only fresh ingredients seems to be used and their prices are more than good value for money - in regards of the staff nothing was never too much and they were so polite especially for the french girl....please keep it up and i will certainly come back in few month time as i have never felt so relax after a stay with you guys - thank you all

We stayed at the Wheatlands from 4th to 7th May and would like to return. I should point out that I am a very fussy and critical guest, and if something is wrong that should be dealt with, I won't hesitate to complain. However, in response to the earlier carping comments, I would say, "Get real! You simply cannot expect 5* amenities on a 2* budget."
The hotel is in a countryside location, has a small outdoor pool, nature trail and a 9 hole golf course - free for guests.
Room 12 provided the amenities we needed: a bed, en suite bathroom, TV and refreshments; also cooked breakfasts from 7.30 to 9.00 am. This was our baseline expectation as we had come to Jersey to see the Island's attractions, not to lounge around in a hotel. Since the location was so peaceful, our room was very thoroughly cleaned each day and the breakfasts were freshly cooked to order (and really delicious), we felt we were getting good value for our money. The waitresses at breakfast were friendly, efficient and unobtrusive - a good thing if, like me, you are not one of Nature's happy morning people. The staff are local. They are knowledgeable and proud of their Island with lots of suggestions for things to visit.
The bars and breakfast room are well furnished, comfortable and reflect the hotel's golf-interest well without being tedious. They are kept spotlessly clean.
It is blindingly obvious that this hotel is undergoing an ongoing modernisation programme. If there are currently a few cosmetic shortcomings such as flimsy curtains, dated TVs and a shortage of conveniently placed electric sockets for phone chargers, they are just matters that will be dealt with in due course. (Structural improvements, such as window replacements, are also being rolled out.) When all of this is completed, I doubt that we will be able to afford to return, as the establishment will be regraded and will therefore be beyond our budget.
Visit while it is affordable!

My wife and I stayed at Wheatlands from 30 August to 6 September and enjoyed a week of wonderful weather and an exciting variety of experiences including walking, Durrell Zoological Park and the Jersey Tuinnels. Our stay at the hotel was consistently good. We had opted for half-board because we did not feel like going off each evening in search of a restaurant after a full day's walking or other activity. We were delighted with the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. The proprietor was very accommodating - happy to photocopy walks for us and always ready to spend time enquiring after our wellbeing.
The room (no.8, upstairs) was spacious, clean and perfectly functional. The room service was immaculate and all tea/coffee-making supplies were replenished each day. The public rooms (bar and breakfast room) were welcoming and convivial. During our stay there was a golf competition and the atmosphere was terrific: friendly chat without any rowdy or boisterous behaviour (we are not golfers but had we been we could have enjoyed free golf for the week).
The heated outdoor pool was just right for soaking away aches and pains after our day's walking.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would like to return to Wheatlands in the near future.

Wheatlands Hotel & Golf Course, Jersey.

I stayed in this hotel during October 2007 and was very disappointed, to put it mildly. My room, # 6, had holes in the ceiling and the furniture was D.I.Y and very dated. The bathroom - bath and toilet - was a walled-off section of the bedroom. The wash hand basin was in the bedroom slotted between a wall and the side of the wardrobe. The window would not stay open, but a wedge of wood had been provided, so that I was able to get fresh air. When the window was closed, the wedge had to be used between the frames of the top and bottom window to stop the rattle, which seemed to occur at the slightest breeze. The glass in the window was cracked in several places. The room, had at one time, been two rooms, so one of the doorways had been blocked off, but the door-frame was still on the wall and the section where the locks had been had not been painted. The stair banister creaked and was not as secure as it might have been. Everything in the bedroom - decor and furniture - looked dated and very tired, althought the web-site does not give this impression. The Jersey Tourist Silver Merit Award that I saw was dated 1998 ! The staff - Manageress Carol and three girls that I saw - were friendly, helpful and doing their best. The golf course looked nice, pity about the hotel.

Having now tried this fantastic dish in two London airports and in 4 different restaurants in HKong I still haven't found anywhere else that matches the delicate flavours that the chef at Wheatlands manages to bring to this one of their signature dishes.

Excellent value hotel. Breakfasts are superb with a choice for most tastes. Rooms a good size and clean. The best part was the golf course which is free to residents. You only need your irons and a putter but its a good test.
