The Merton Hotel garners high marks for its immaculate cleanliness, with guests frequently lauding the pristine rooms and facilities. Although some guests feel the value is lessened by pricey food and extra charges, the warm and professional service provided by the hotel staff often compensates for this. Its prime location is a hit among travelers, offering easy access to local attractions. The hotel's abundant amenities, including the Aquadome, are popular, even though some updates are needed. However, guests have called out the need for quieter, more modern rooms.

We have really enjoyed our week at this hotel. The food, swimming pools, entertainment and staff have all be brilliant!

The indoor and outdoor linking pools were fantastic for all the family with the lazy river, slides, etc (surfing was additional cost £30 for 3 hours in a small group session which my 11 yr old loved and had a very passionate instructor )

We upgraded to half board and I’m soooo pleased we did as the food was outstanding. I’m a vegetarian, my husband a huge meat eater, a fussy daughter and gluten free son and we all managed to find lots to eat! I have never been to a hotel with so many vegetarian options which actually everyone enjoyed such as tortellini, cannelloni, vegetable stir fry, stuffed peppers, buns and coconut stew, various rice dishes as well as selection of salads, breads, perfectly cooked and seasoned veg- runner beans etc and of course meats Carvery, chips, nuggets etc and different themed nights. The restaurant staff were so funny and friendly and work tirelessly to ensure the restaurant is always immaculate. Some of the hotel restaurants were closed because of limited numbers with Covid but I think we just would have been spoilt for choice had there been any more options. The dessert again huge variety of cakes, fruits, ice creams, jelly, profiteroles etc enjoyed by all and with the unlimited buffet it was definitely value for money. Staff were all very attentive and wore masks but still enjoyed a chat!

As with most kids clubs the staff don’t get enough credit for their constant energy but they were great and kept us all entertained in the evening with quizzes, competitions, dancing and kids club and the evening entertainment was always good.

The rooms are slightly dated and there is no air con and we were fortunate enough to have a heat wave during our Stay and we asked for an extra fan which they gave us but was not really enough to cool the room.

Overall we had a great holiday after being disappointed that our Spanish holiday was cancelled and I think we enjoyed it just as much!
Thanks Merton!

Dear dreap1, Thank you so much for your comments. It is reviews like this which make us so proud. We're delighted that you enjoyed the huge selection of dishes in the restaurant and that your family enjoyed the Flowrider and entertainment so much. We will ensure your comments are shared with the team. Also, it is great to see that Jersey stands up so well compared to a Spanish break! We hope to see you once again at the Merton Hotel.

This may be a long review but I believe in telling people the truth. Firstly the reception team were brilliant and a special thank you to Dayane who was so helpful and always cheerful with any thing you required. There were porters to help with luggage etc on arrival. The rooms were of a nice size and spotless, but my only little moan and mean little moan was our room 259 was on a main road so got some noise. We stayed half board and the food was excellent and always a varied choice. The waiting staff and chiefs were always on hand to help you . This hotel has a indoor and a heated outdoor pools which are fantastic, sunbeds and parasols ,coffee bar etc and also for refundable cost you hire out pool towels. We were lucky has we had some really nice weather. The evening entertainment was mainly in the Star Bar and was of a excellent standard my wife really enjoyed the Jersy boys tribute which was on our 30th wedding anniversary, Lee and Becky were brilliant has part of the entertainment team and really surprised us by giving us a bottle of fizz on our anniversary night all in all a brilliant place to spend the evenings. My big tip for a stay at the Merton is get a Seymour card deposit some on a payment card and get 15% off food and drink even at the pool. This takes price of pint down to around £3.60 which I think is really reasonable. All in all a excellent week at the Merton Hotel and a big thank you to all the staff and yes we will be back soon very soon

Normally we would say in the Raddison or similar 4 star but at 60 quid more a night our eyes fell on the Merton which had larger swimming pool and gym facilities together with evening entertainment so we opted nervously.

We were pleasantly surprised. We had a 6th floor room which was huge ...ask for a higher floor to avoid noise. The pictures don't do the rooms or hotel justice. It was quite pleasant.

It was a 10 minute walk further away from town than the top contenders but this is no problem at all and some decent restaurants are a 10 minute walk literally. Breakfast buffet included fried bacon and eggs to a good standard on most days and you can ask for an ommlete made to order fresh at no additional costs.

The entertainment included an abba tribute act. Jersey Boys and wet end shows ..think Pontins or Butlins ..it was decent enough and makes a good end to the day as st helier is not a late night town on the main.

Only negatives are rooms have no air con.

ALL in all an excellent hotel and well worth booking. The inside and outside pool plus small gym and also group pilates, bar work think les mills, and evening Entertainment makes this an excellent choice for good and bad weather.

We booked as cheap on hotels.com earning free nights...the hotel is popular so book in advance

To be fair it's actually a 4* as really disappointed to find out the pools were over the road from the hotel but that is our only complaint.
Ground floor looked like something that would grace any 5* hotel. Plenty of good comfortable seating, live piano music in the evenings, a really big conservatory and 2 bars, open from 11am until late.
Receptionist Aysu (apologies if spelt incorrectly) went over and above, throughout the whole of our stay, she was helpful and friendly but she really saved our holiday on our last day. Thank you so much.
Rooms were great, although promised a room over looking the garden, we were actually given 321, which was on the corner overlooking the road and carpark, but was a lovely big room and bathroom and with no neighbours on either side, really quiet apart from traffic and the beautiful sound of St Lukes clock stricking every 15 minutes during daylight hours. Will really miss it when home.
Housekeeping was 3 times a week ( not sure if this was standard or due to covid 19 but more than adequate) Lovely big, white towels and lux shampoo/shower gel) Iron, ironing board and hairdryer, with kettle and cups.
Food and drink is good value for money. Breakfast had plenty of choice, from continental, pancakes through to a full English. Buffet in the evening was amazing, especially the sea food selection, different soup served daily as well as 2 roast meats, always 2 fish main courses, selection of other meat mains, as well as vegan/ vegetarian and a pasta, good choice of salads and vegetables, Puddings, along with fresh fruit, jersey icecream and a lovely selection of cheese and biscuits rounded of the meal nicely. and all were served due to Covid 19 rather than help yourself but really not a problem as they were really good at giving you the portion size you wanted. Loved the selection of teas and coffee left out so we could help ourselves to top up the room.
Entertainment in the Star lounge was 5*, it had to be amended due to Covid 19, but didn't impact on the quality. It was a shame it was coming to the end when we left, as nothing on our last night but it was getting towards the end of the season so understandable
Thoroughly recommend this hotel and will be visiting again.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of June. From the minute we arrived we were treated very well by the lovely staff. All Covid precautions were in place. Our room was of a good size with a nice firm bed and we were on the top floor so we had a fabulous sea view. The facilities in the hotel were great particularly the aquadome leisure facilities, it was lovely to sit outside on the sun lounger and enjoy the outdoor heated pool when the weather warmed up.

The restaurant was really good with a good variety of choices for both breakfast and dinner. For breakfast you were served with your choice of tea or coffee (or both), some proper juice there was a good selection of of cereals, fresh fruits and also the hot buffet with a variety of dishes such as sausages, these were very tasty, bacon, eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, toast, pancakes and waffles. For dinner there was a good choice of a salad buffet there was a seafood counter you could also have a soup to start with and for the main courses there was a variety of meat dishes, with a different selection of potatoes and a good choice of vegetables too. There was a good vegetarian selection as well. The desserts were lovely as well with different types of cakes, cheesecake, profiteroles and cream, ice cream and if you still had some room after all of that then you can have cheese and biscuits!

We enjoyed the entertainment every evening in the store room with a good variety of acts each evening we particularly enjoyed the pop night and the rock night. If you did not want to see the show you could have a drink after dinner in the lounge bar area.

The hotel is a 10 to 15-minute walk from st. Helier with an extra 10 minutes to the liberation Square bus station which has an excellent service all over the island.

This is a lovely hotel on a fabulous island and we had a great holiday. If you're thinking about booking it for a break don't hesitate just do it!

The Merton hotel is an old six storey building located in a hilly residential area which is a 15/20 minute stroll from both the beach and the shopping centre. The hotel has however been refurbished internally from top to bottom to a very good modern standard. The open planned reception, lounges and bars are located on the fourth floor ( street level) whilst the dining areas and the entertainment hall are on floor three. The pool and aqua dome are directly opposite the hotel on the other side of the street. There are very little outside areas other than a small garden which is not equipped with seating facilities! Good free WiFi reception is available throughout the hotel!

In the peak periods this hotel is designed for young families and is extremely busy!

The bedrooms are reached by numerous stairways, elevators and a labyrinth of narrow corridors. The rooms which are kept spotlessly clean are reasonably sized with plenty of room for luggage, wardrobe space and useful surfaces. The rooms are well lit, have plenty of sockets, good mirrors, coffee making facilities, hair dryer, small TV and ironing equipment. Beds in our room were hard but linen and towels were changed every day. The bathroom is small as is the bath but the shower is excellent with plenty of hot water. Toiletries provided are very basic!! The room has an inadequate small fan and no AC so try to make sure your room does not overlook the noisy roads as you will need to have the windows open!

Breakfast and dinner, both buffet style, are served in the main restaurant which can get very busy but thanks to the excellent staff, of which there are many, every aspect runs smoothly. The choice, variation and quality of the food is excellent and the service is both friendly and efficient. Top marks to David and Jill. The bars have an equal level of service but drinks are expensive so make sure you use the discount card which saves 15%. Top marks here to Sunshine and Free!

The swimming pool area across the street has a nice grassed area and there are ample beds. You can take your hotel towels to the pool and there are changing rooms available as well as a bar for refreshments etc! The aqua dome is brilliant!

Day trips from the hotel are good value and I would especially recommend the winery trip…adults only!!!

For a balanced review I should mention the negatives which are that the local beach has zero facilities and there are no local cafes or bars. The shopping area is also disappointing! Major downside is the lack of AC so the inside of the hotel gets very hot and humid especially in the evenings and as mentioned there are virtually no outside seating areas!

We had a great holiday here and the food was great and the atmosphere very friendly.
The layout of the hotel is easy to navigate and I felt comfortable leaving my children who are 6 and 9 at the kids club which provide some fantastic entertainment.

The room was spacious but would have benefited from air conditioning as we were in a room over looking the road and pool area and it was very noisy when the window was open. Especially in the night when people were returning from a night out.
The area was safe and a 10-15 min walk to the beach/lido which was a great area for a swim.

The only downside was one of the breakfast staff, one young girl called 'Jess' was extremely rude and argumentative and in comparison to the rest of her colleagues down right lazy. I was disappointed to watch her clear a plate away and then wipe the food residue she had on the her hand on the table. It really let the staff and hotel down. Her attitude was not at all what I would expect from waiting staff. This was such a shame as the rest of the staff were so hard working and friendly her behaviour really stood out. I hope the hotel can find the time to train her up to the standards the other staff have.

The cleanliness of the hotel was obviously a high priority to staff and the rooms where cleaned to a high standard every day, the staff made animals out of the towels which was a great feature on the beds when we returned from our breakfast.

Other than a slight blip the rest of the holiday and hotel was fab, lots to do and lots of choice of activities. We will return to Jersey.

We enjoyed an 8 night B&B stay recently. The hotel was perfect for us with a 10 year old - the swimming pool and FlowRider were massive hits. In the warmer weather it's sometimes not always possible to get a sunlounger/desk chair but this is symptomatic of most hotels in the Summer months! Pool towels are available for a £5 refundable deposit. Breakfast is of a high standanrd with lots of options and items were refilled quickly at busier times. We stayed in a standard room which was a little on the small side for the three of us but not really a problem as we weren't in it that much. Car park is large but very busy as it's also for Aquadome members, and it's often difficult to find a suitable space but we always managed eventually. It's a 10-15 minute flat walk into the town centre and 10 minutes or so to the Havre des Pas seafront with the swimming pool. Hotel is of good 3 star standard - rooms and public areas are clean. Housekeeping service was very good.

Hotel suited us well on a bed and breakfast basis. Breakfast was very much buffet but due to Covid we were served everything by staff wearing masks which worked really well. Our room was only serviced every other day but we were advised of this during check-in. All staff we encountered were very friendly and efficient and clearly some had been with the hotel for many years including the cleaner who informed us she had been there for 25years! Good restaurants within walking distance and main shops reached by a walk through Howard Davis Park. Bus stops for travelling East can be accessed from a downhill walk on leaving the hotel or the main bus station is a good 15 minute walk.

Stayed in the suites which were really nice, beds are extremely firm. Everything you need is provided such as, washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, cloth etc . We hadn't booked breakfasts, but did have breakfast a few times in the restaurant which was all good. The dinner in restaurant and the Italian were really good, but Joe's American diner food was really poor, beefburgers/fishburger were just inedible - we left most of it.
We requested a highchair and cot for the suite, which was provided, however the cot was tiny, way smaller than a normal cot, and left little room for our 18 month old, but we managed just for the week.
The pools are great and our 7 year old loved it, we had one rainy day, but the indoor pool kept us busy, they provide towels for £5 deposit, so no need to bring your own. The snackbar at the pool does need some improvement though, it's not kept very well stocked with hot food/sandwiches which they will toast for you, strangely only on one side!!
I would also recommend giving the Aha restaurant located within the nearby park, a try, fabulous food and good value. I would stay at this hotel again
