Situated in the country Parish of St. Martin in a quiet green valley close to one of Guernsey's most beautiful bays, La Barbarie Hotel offers easy access to the stunning cliff walks, Saints Bay, Icart Point and the secluded coves of the south coast of Guernsey. A comfortable Guernsey hotel set in a rural location, combined with a popular award winning restaurant make La Barbarie Hotel one of the best Guernsey hotels for relaxing short breaks, activity breaks and walking holidays. "The jewel in La Barbarie's crown is really the restaurant, which produces outstandingly good food with complete reliability. Rick Stein stayed there while making one of his television cookery programmes, and pronounced the lobster the best he had ever tasted - praise indeed from one of the country's most celebrated seafood chefs." Every time we stay at the Barbarie Hotel it just seems to get better.
I booked a bargain over night stay with a couple of friends for my wedding anniversary at a cost of £63.00 bed and breakfast , you tend to get these deals in the winter months which is an absolute bargain for such a lovely hotel. On top of this they had a winter warmer menu for £20 for three courses which three out of the four of us decided to have and I have to say the food was fantastic.
The room we had were absolutely brilliant , I believe they were the deluxe pool view rooms which are really spacious and very cosy . The bed was so comfortable and there is everything you expect of a room including an iron and ironing board , little touches like homemade shortbread , plenty of various tea’s , coffee , hot chocolate , biscuits.
There is a good sized flat screen tv , a sofa and seating area . In the big bathroom is a bath and a separate shower , bath robes and slippers , lovely toiletries and most important to me is a shaving mirror as my eyes are so bad these days that I take my own with me to be able to put my make up on but I didn’t need to as there was one in the bathroom.
I absolutely love the Barbarie Hotel and all the staff , it is so nice to go to a hotel where the staff have been there for years and very friendly and professional and make you feel welcome .
I love it so much that even though I live in Guernsey I would like to have a staycation for a few days as I could not imagine being anywhere else on a lovely day with all those nice cliff walks close by.
Thank you Andy Coleman and staff for making our stay so special , we cannot wait to come back .

We have stayed here for a few nights with friends, with a very good price arranged by ringing them directly. Rooms are large and well equipped, very clean and comfortable with superking-sized bed. Decor throughout is tasteful and attractive.
The staff are very friendly, helpful and efficient and the food at dinner and breakfast has been first class. I can’t recommend highly enough. Will definitely stay again.

I have just returned from a week's stay with good friends at La Barbarie Hotel. I first went there with my father and a group of friends 28 years ago and we have returned regularly since. Andy Coleman has been the manager from our first visit, and we are always warmly welcomed back - often being given the same room so it's just like going home!
My visit last week was my first since losing my dad last year. I was given my favourite room which is very comfortably furnished with a walk in shower. Due to Covid 19 we could chose when to have our rooms serviced and we opted for every other day though I have no doubt if we had wanted we could have had this daily. As always we were given a warm welcome and served by the lovey staff employed there. Although a limited snack menu on Sunday and Monday it was freshly made and presented well. The breakfasts were wonderful - as always - with a good selection of cooked items and plenty of choice for juices, cereals, breads etc. The main meals we had in the Restaurant were delicious! Piping hot and tasty and a good selection on both the Set menu and Al La Carte. You do have to book a table as this restaurant is very popular with the islanders too! It was full the days we ate there.
There were new staff to get to know and some familiar faces who were all friendly, caring and very professional. It was good to talk to the regular staff about dad and some of our get togethers in the past. It brought back some very happy memories of some good time past and hopefully to make new ones in the future as I will definitely be back!

We stayed 6 nights and loved every minute of it. Due to Covid, there were no chambermaid services but you can request new towels, bedding change, toiletries and tea/coffee at any time!
The pool looks lovely for the warmer weather!
The breakfast was perfect and we were pleased to find out our B&B rate included full cooked breakfast options, prepared to order, as well as continental buffet. They also serve good coffee!
We ate in the restaurant for our evening meal twice and indulged in three courses both times! The menu is varied and reasonably priced for the quality received.
If I was asked for one thing to improve, it would be a longer cocktail list, but they have a well stocked bar.
Thanks, we hope to return 😍

We have just returned from a few days away at La Barbarie and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by the receptionist who showed us to our room and saw that the sandwiches that we had ordered, because the restaurant was closed by the time we arrived, were delivered to us in the bar. The room was very clean and comfortable with probably the best bed I’ve slept in at a hotel. The bathroom had a really efficient shower which worked exactly how you’d hope it would (not going cold after 2 minutes). Breakfast in the restaurant was fantastic with a good selection of cereals, pastries, juices and hot dishes. We ate in the restaurant with a group of our relations on one night and we were really well looked after by the bar and restaurant staff. The restaurant manager was very professional, but friendly and helpful at the same time. The public areas of the hotel, car park and grounds were spotlessly clean and well maintained. I can thoroughly recommend a stay at La Barbarie and we will definitely be back at some time in the future.

Back again to La Barbarie and the same wonderful experience. The location, the rooms and facilities and most importantly, the food and service were of the same extremely high standard that attracts us back as often as possible. After missing last year because of lockdown, it was especially rewarding seeing many of the team continuing to provide such a welcome.

We popped over from Alderney for a couple of nights at La Barbarie having heard good reviews - and I’m so glad we did!!
I was last at La Barbarie about 25 years ago, and had very strong memories of a dark, dingy pub and restaurant with loads of dark wood! It was unrecognisable. The refurb is superb, done really sympathetically and thoughtfully but making everywhere inside light, bright and a thoroughly pleasant place to be.
The one thing I have to note is the staff. You get so used to mediocre staff who seem to be going through the motions. Without fail, every member of staff we came across at La Barbarie was brilliant - eager to help, warm and efficient.
Add to that a fabulous Tennerfest meal and an excellent breakfast both mornings, and we left totally impressed.
We shall return!

We’ve stayed in a number of our local hotels this summer to try and support them during the crisis. La Barbarie has been the best so far. It’s been extensively refurbished quite recently to a very high standard in a contemporary, yet still authentic and welcoming style. Our room was huge and very comfortable with a private balcony overlooking the pool. We enjoyed a quiet drink on the terrace before dinner, which was lovely in the warm weather. The staff were unfailingly polite, cheerful and helpful and our evening dinner was excellent, possibly the best pork belly I’ve ever had. Breakfast was also a treat...the usual continental buffet plus a cooked breakfast made to order, which was delicious. I’d highly recommend the hotel to visitors as and when they are able to start travelling to our Island again!

This was our third visit to La Barbarie, the first time was 9 years ago and between then & now it has continued to maintain its individuality and charm.
The staff have been consistently friendly & helpful, both in person and when dealing with enquiries I have made over the phone or by email.
Over the years we have stayed in 3 different room types and all of them were well presented with comfortable beds and more than adequate wardrobe space.
The location of the hotel suits us well, my wife & I enjoy walking whenever we can and La Barbarie is within easy striking distance of many good walking areas as well as places to eat & drink. In addition there is a bus stop almost directly outside the entrance!
The refurbishment that has taken place between our previous visit & the latest one has brightened the interior without losing its charm and all the public areas were clean and very well presented.
One very small niggle is that the set menu only seems to change on a monthly basis and because we were there in the middle of the month, the menu didn't change during our stay. Having said that, this is not a major problem because there is still the a la carte menu to choose from.
All in all we had a lovely break at La Barbarie and will certainly be visiting them again.

We spent 5 days here, in November, and really enjoyed ourselves. It is off-peak for Guernsey, so the hotel was not crowded, but the service was first class. The room was spacious and well-appointed, with good wifi. The restaurant was extremely good - we were there during a food festival in Guernsey, in which the restaurant was participating, and the value was noticeable. Great location, with a bus stop right outside, and good asccess to beach and coastal walks.

At the moment I couldn't recommend that you try to visit the island. Our government has been remarkably successful in containing Coronavirus, we haven't had a case in over 130 days. If you come here from most parts of the world you will have to stay in isolation for 14 days.
If you have your own car you need to come by ferry (difficult at the moment) or you can fly and hire one here (quite cheap).
Things to see are varied. If you like history we have dolmens and menhirs galore. We have neolithic statues in two of our churches, "gran'meres" (The third one is keeping herself hidden until the island improves.) There is any amount of WWII building work all over.
We are a little island and our treasures are to scale. You probably will need a car even though we have a pretty good bus service. Do come and visit us when restrictions are lifted. Spring is particularly lovely.
Pretty sure it opened around 8am (officially) with breakfast starting from 8:15am. It was mostly in the shade at that time so maybe a little chilly.... Enjoy!
Hello there. Although La Barbarie is currently closed for annual break, someone does still answer the telephone! Great customer service!. I have just phoned them and I know that the Manager, Andy Coleman, regularly checks Trip Advisor. He will respond I am positive of that. The telephone number is 01481 235217. They have always accommodated guests with special dietary needs and the chef would be very obliging to assist; definitely cater for gluten free guests and take all hygienic precautions avoid cross contamination. Hope this helps. You would love a stay at La Barbarie. Peggy and Rob Ellis, Guernsey
Yes as others have said but would take sometime as a change needed. Taxi best.
