Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the beginning of August 2021 as a couple. They are very friendly and helpful, especially the breakfast staff.
The room had a balcony with sea views. It was lovely. The room was cleaned every day and we didn't have a problem with noise night or day.
We had breakfast every day and loved all the choices.
Lots of places nearby to visit by foot. There is a steep alleyway leading to the town just outside the car park. Good for building the calf muscles.

There was a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere at La Fregate and the staff were very friendly.
The room - I loved it! It was really spacious and had dual aspect windows with a view across the port to the islands in the east and towards the town and Victoria Tower. Both had balconies and the larger front window had a sliding door with a small table and 2 chairs. We watched some amazing lightening across the sea towards France the first night. The shower was powerful although I had to be careful when stepping into a very deep bath but there was a grab bar to help those with reduced mobility. The bed was comfortable. It was also quiet at night which was quite important.
The breakfast - very good and well served. I was able to have a vegetarian breakfast. There was a buffet with juices, fruits, yogurt, cereals and pastries and the cooked breakfast was brought plated to your table.
The dinner - I booked dinner for one of the nights and we were not disappointed. I have posted a photo of my husband’s scallop starter. Very pretty!
I thoroughly recommend this hotel even though it’s reached via a narrow walled street which seems to be a theme in Guernsey!

Chose this hotel to spend the week celebrating our Golden anniversary.
Reviews and pics portrayed our idyllic place to Stay.
Not Disappointed
From the first contact of booking , and our arrival at reception greeted by the warmth and pleasantry of Richard and Riham we felt welcomed chilled and relaxed .
We felt pampered when shown to our room 114 which was spotless , well maintained and presented with a modern but traditional luxurious feel.
Twin aspect balcony’s , east facing with table and chairs providing sunshine best part of the day ideal for morning coffee and afternoon G &T’s watching all the comings and going’s of the harbour traffic , for which reception were on hand to supply a copious supply of ice to complete the experience. The second south facing , a walkon balcony to enjoy more spectacular views of St Peter port harbour evening life. We nicknamed it the penthouse.
Breakfast options were great , full English , to continental and all the others , smoked salmon , omelettes, eggs Benedict etc in between ,
All courteously served by the restaurant staff.
Walter , and his crew Rishab , Abdul, Mahfur, Raj, Yvonne and Eve.
All deserving of a mention by name for their courtesy and proficiency..
I missed the Chefs names who should also deserve a special mention for providing fabulous evening meals , exceptionally presented and equally delicious . Fish , lobster meat whatever we chose was fabulous. As were the wine selections.
To top it off the weather was exceptionally kind to us spent all week in shirt sleeves and donning sun cream. Trips to Herm and Sark added to our enjoyment of walks around the islands sucking up the scenery and pleasantry’s offered by the locals with a warm hello , or passing greetings of the time of day .
All in all a fabulous holiday week celebrating our special occasion.
Great choice of destination , and exceptional hotel . Thank you Simon.
Thanks to all of you for making our special occasion , all we could have wished for.
Hope to return someday, and do it all again.
Kind regards to all Andy & Lin.

I'm not sure it actually rates as much as two. We were there at lunchtime for a birthday celebration a deux. Two very nice Kenyan servers were 5star. Unfortunately I ordered stroganoff. We've been here at this restaurant with a wealthy epicure (we recommended) she said I wouldn't feed this to my dog. I've disagreed for 5 or 6 years.
Today she was right. Ordered stroganoff from lunch menu. The essence of stroganoff is beef sauce brandy and cream. What I got was a beef strips in Bovril sauce. Chefs pleeeeease you're not cooking for your 8 year old.the taste was so salty it puckered my mouth. Yes pushed it away and complained. The Kenyan servers were delightful and apologetic. But it's not them.
Fregate has great location great service but absentee management AVOID

We spent several days at this wonderful hotel. I can only echo what others have said about the staff. Without exception they were really welcoming, caring and professional. Often good customer service has been "taught" - but these people really seemed to care.
Our room, in the old section had a terrace and a terrific view.
The food and service was the best we enjoyed in our 11 days in the Channel Islands. We were disappointed that they could not accept our dinner booking for the sunday, but they explained that there was a staff shortage. Unlike other establishments, they chose to refuse a booking rather than to lower their standards. Something I wish some other establishments on these islands had chosen to do.
ps coffee in our room was lovely - real coffee, not instant

I stayed one night in September and this was easily the best place I stayed in my 4 night trip in the Channel Islands. I had booked a single room and got a huge double room with a balcony over looking the port which was a huge bonus. The staff where all excellent and are a real asset to the hotel. I have an intolerance to dairy and when explaining this at breakfast they went above and beyond to provide me with suitable food. I felt extremely safe eating here which wasn’t always the case this trip. My only negative is I only stayed one night here!

Loved our stay
We are reaching the end of our week at this lovely hotel and we can highly recommend this as a base to explore Guernsey. We stayed in Rooms 110/111 and the photos don’t do justice to the large and comfortable balconies and fab harbour views. Comfortable bedrooms and we have enjoyed the food too. Friendly and helpful staff. Thanks to all the team.

We stayed at La Fregate for a week and found it to be an excellent experience. The staff were very helpful and professional, doing everything possible to make our stay an enjoyable one.
Breakfast was very good and dinner in the restaurant was excellent. Amazing views from our room. The room was cleaned to a high standard, also with nightly turndown.
Airport transfer arranged by the hotel and we could not fault them.
The hotel is very close to the town, albeit up a hill - the views alone made the trip worthwhile!

+1
Lets start with the plus points - great location and views, excellent restaurant and quality food. We had 5 nights in a 'Deluxe' room 103 which was what we would describe as a typical English seaside hotel room and far below what we would expect from a 4* hotel and definitely not as shown and advertised on the website. Old-fashioned and dated. Good size, yes, and nice balcony, but a truly awful bathroom with a really noisy electric shower over a narrow bath that struggled to deliver a decent amount of water. The bath has seen better days as had the mirror and dated basin. Even the loo struggled to flush properly and usually needed flushing twice. Nowhere to put anything and somewhat impractical.
The room itself has no safe, no shelves in the old fashioned wardrobe, no fridge and a small TV on an old fashioned chest of drawers.
The noise from the creaky floor from the room above was ridiculous and was evident any time anyone moved anywhere in that room.
Overall, extremely disappointing and spoiled what was otherwise a lovely holiday. For £300 per night in a 4* hotel compared with many we have stayed in, it was not good value.

Dear Mark, Thank you for taking the time to post this review. I do apologize that the bathroom was not in good shape, however on inspection this morning and viewing your photography, my maintenance manager has rectified the bath chip, replaced the silicone, installed a new shower unit and we will order a shelf, or cabinet. I am afraid that none of our rooms have a safe or a fridge. We do have a maintenance programme that looks at all bedrooms during the winter months and I am sorry that housekeeping did not pick up on these points. Yours sincerely Simon Dufty General Manager

This is a very nice hotel with a friendly and helpful staff. They really go out of their way to make you comfortable.
The location is great — high above the town but easily walkable to the center — at least if you don’t mind walking up the hill to return. We did not; it is so worth it. Our room had a beautiful view of the harbor and we saw a couple of spectacular sunrises in our four nights there. Another benefit to the location is that it is quiet.
Breakfast was excellent, especially the Eggs Benedict! You can enjoy the harbor reviews while you eat.

It is up a hill not really suitable for someone with mobility problems.
Lovely hotel though
We are now resident in Guernsey and have visited and stayed at La Fregate many times before that.
It is still one of our favorite place now that we live there.
Hello . Yes I think so to be honest I didn’t know until now there was an old and new part . We had a balcony overlooking St Peters port . R
We serve lunch every day. On Sunday it is set traditional Sunday lunch menu, the rest of the week we have a lunch menu and a la carte.
Many thanks for your questions.
Most of our first floor bedrooms have air conditioning.
We do not have refrigerators in any of our rooms.
All our balconies have a table and 2 chairs.
I would not consider our ceilings low
