La Fregate Hotel, Guernsey's latest four star hotel, combines the charm and character of an 18th-century manor house with the amenities of a modern business and leisure hotel. Whatever your reasons for visiting Guernsey, a weekend break, short stay, business meeting, we offer the highest 2 rosette standards of cuisine and four star hotel service on the island of Guernsey. A 2.5m refurbishment in 2006 has meant that the hotel has grown in size to 22 bedrooms together with the addition of the Orangery catering for parties up to 24 people and a new terrace. These enhancements have been designed to enhance the reputation of the hotel and to build on a thirty year reputation of one of the islands favourite hotels.

Accommodation all you need for a single stay. Lovely views, tidy and comfortable (weirdly the side of the bath was dirty but that's the only quibble). The breakfast is great, lots of lovely Guernsey produce. The highlight would be the staff who are all without exception excellent. By way of an example, they booked me a taxi which didn't show up and ended up driving me at no charge to my appointment. Thank you all!

Went for dinner & was very impressed. Food beautiful and staff very attentive. Restaurant was surprisingly modern for the style of hotel and for our taste the lighting was a bit too bright hence only 4 star rather than 5. Not the easiest place to find but views are lovely.

Absolutely fabulous hotel, all the staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The October menu was so tasty with a good choice and very good value at £28 for 3 courses. Our room had the most amazing view of the port. A short walk to the town centre, via some very steep steps.!

We booked at the hotel for an evening birthday meal. The staff were very attentive and after a pre dinner drink outside where the view looking over St Peter Port and Herm and Sark was quite breathtaking as the sun set. We sat down for our three course Tennerfest meal which was cooked quite beautifully and superbly presented. Although we had a slight problem with one course the whole situation was quickly and professionally resolved. It would not stop us going back there on another occasion.

I'm not sure it actually rates as much as two. We were there at lunchtime for a birthday celebration a deux. Two very nice Kenyan servers were 5star. Unfortunately I ordered stroganoff. We've been here at this restaurant with a wealthy epicure (we recommended) she said I wouldn't feed this to my dog. I've disagreed for 5 or 6 years. Today she was right. Ordered stroganoff from lunch menu. The essence of stroganoff is beef sauce brandy and cream. What I got was a beef strips in Bovril sauce. Chefs pleeeeease you're not cooking for your 8 year old.the taste was so salty it puckered my mouth. Yes pushed it away and complained. The Kenyan servers were delightful and apologetic. But it's not them. Fregate has great location great service but absentee management AVOID

This hotel is described on most websites and on-line reviews in more glowing teems than are justified. The core may be an old manor house but it is barely visible in the much expanded and modernised building. Rooms do have a view of the port and town, and have small or large balconies but it is a pretty unattractive view. A small gravelled and paved sitting-out area but no garden. Rooms were clean and smart and very spacious but a bit sterile. We stayed in two rooms and preferred the one in the modern extension even though it has a small balcoiny rather than a large sun deck. This is a very expensive hotel for what you get - don't judge what you'll get by the rates they charge! The trouble with Guernsey is that it appears that there are no genuinely charming hotels. A few are based on old manor houses or other old buildings but they have been expanded or modernised into non-existence (eg La Barberie). Staff friendly and helpful…

Visited with friends. Outstanding customer service and truly first class facilities. Wonderful 'old fashioned' service at breakfast with all requests accommodated. Rooms with a view over St. Peter Port should be requested. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending.

OK hotel in a good location for St Peter Port. Food excellent worth eating in. Downside is that there is no organised outside gardens to sit in and chill out, just a small terrace outside the bar/dining room. So a room with balcony is essential in our opinion (we had one)

We stayed in a bay view room, which had a beautiful view of St Peter Port, over to Herm and Sark. It is a lovely hotel in a great location. As noted by other reviewers, there is no fridge which was disappointing and the shower was a bit dated. There is also no pool or gym. However, the air conditioning in the room worked well. There is also a slight short cut into St Peter Port via the garden attached to the hotel which was appreciated. Breakfast was a mixed experience but dinner was very good. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay, particularly the views, and would come again.

We booked a standard double room, and the views were outstanding of the port, the castle and the islands Herm, Jethou and Sark, a view I will miss much. The room did lack items I would have thought to be standard when staying in a 4* hotel, there was no fridge so the water provided was warm, the toiletries was basic and quite cheap and weren’t replaced daily. The staff were very friendly and attentive, though the restaurant staff a little too attentive and you couldn’t even pour your own wine. The cooked breakfast was excellent but even though I asked for mushrooms I only ever got one. All in all a pleasant stay with fabulous views of St Peter Port.
