Fermain Valley Hotel is nestled in a secluded tree topped location on the south coast of the island, just 5 minutes away from the capital St Peter Port. It prides itself as an eatery with 3 dining options located on the property, to appease all food tastes. The Ocean Restaurant, is the hotels seasonal restaurant and provides an array of fresh fish and provincial food delicacies in summer season. Alternatively there is one of the islands premier steakhouses onsite, The Rock Garden Steak House with sophisticated Cocktail bar and outdoor snug. Finally if you prefer latino influenced cuisine we have an onsite modern Mexican called Búho, located in the Venue, it challenges the convention. The hotel offers extensive public areas from cozy fire side lounges to a private cinema for guests use, with also use of an indoor-heated swimming pool and sauna. Complimentary high speed wireless is accessible throughout the hotel. The Fermain Hotel is renowned for its warm and friendly welcome.

This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel. since my first stay, the hotel has become a part of Hand Picked Hotels Group, It would appear that no updating has been done, the hotel decor is tired, the Rock Garden restaurant is drab and needs brightening. The rooms are comfortable and the facilities are as described. The staff are attentitive, friendly and will look after your every need. The breakfast is of a good standard, and does not involve my pet hate hot buffet breakfasts.

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at Fermain Valley. The fresh water and sweets in reception were a lovely touch. We stayed in an incredible spacious room (12) in the main building. It was very clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The breakfast was AMAZING with a selection of fresh fruit, pastries and juice followed by a chef made meal of your choice. We tried as many dishes as we possibly could on the list. On our final morning we walked down to the bay and spent a few peaceful hours there before flying home. We will be back!

It is 5 years since my Wife and I have been to stay at Fermain Valley. In that time much has changed and I am happy to say that most of it is to the good. The staff seem to be entirely new (I assume many left during the pandemic) and their quality and professionalism was very impressive. The location is pretty much perfect in my opinion (yes, there are many aeroplanes coming in to land at Guernsey airport during the day and they pass close overhead, but that didn't bother us at all). The food: well that's a personal preference, and there are 3 restaurants - The Ocean Bar & Grill serving mainly seafood dishes which was very good, The Rock Garden which is a steakhouse and was just ok, and Buho which is latin-themed and not something we found appealing. Breakfast is served in the Ocean Bar and was absolutely superb. On to the accommodation then, which is the only complaint I have really. 5 years ago we stayed in the main body of the hotel, and it was perfect. This time round we were in a 'gold' standard room which was located in the same building as the Buho restaurant - this is a very bad idea indeed if you are over 50 years of age. The restaurant is open most nights and closes at midnight and whilst the music isn't too loud ALL the time, once service has finished and the staff start cleaning down the equipment it is like trying to sleep in an industrial kitchen: banging, scraping, dragging and dance music thumping through the walls. I didn't enjoy that at all - the first time I have had to sleep with ear plugs in a 4 star hotel. In fact our room was definitely not that of a 4 star hotel, the main panel of the window - looking towards the sea - had blown it's seal and so was internally fogged all the time. Not great. That said, however, the overall experience was a very good one and I would definitely return - my Wife is not so sure, purely because of our room. If the hotel read these reviews, it's a bad idea to accommodate guests in the Buho building, it really lessens the experience.

Initial room had no hot water. Their solution/ shower in the swimming pool area 2 floors down. Unacceptable so was issued with a larger room. No air con so stand alone fan on constantly. Fan could only be plugged into high level socket as other low level sockets were round pin. Inconvenient. Balcony was above a smoking area With doors open smoke wafted into the room. Hot water on basins scalding. TV had to be constantly rebooted to get sound. Breakfast selection presentation poor. Only 1 type of milk, limited fresh fruit. Prepared fruit minced into jars and no description. Cooked breakfast had good selection. Issued parking permit for car which was good saving on parking fees. Restaurant service unbelievably poor. Forgot the starter for 1 person so ended up eating our meals separately. Rightly so was not charged. Lots of apologies but spoilt the evening. Miscommunication on reception with regard to meeting us on arrival from Sark at the correct time resulting in us having to phone to see when we would be picked up. On leavng were charged for an item which we did not have. They couldn't produce signed counterfoil so removed. No area to sit or any sunbeds. Only terraced area for dining. Left a day early due to a very disappointing hotel.

We had a lovely stay. The staff are genuinely fabulous and nothing is too much trouble. Pool is inside but I had it to myself both mornings. Breakfast is amazing with a wide range of dishes to choose from. Sweet trolley is a nice touch. Beautiful walks into town and down to the beach - however very steep!

Having used the tea room for a number of years and it being our favourite place, I shall not return after having 12.5% discretionary (although I was not given the option) service charge placed on two small cups of coffee. GST was turned down by the States, but Fermain Valley clearly did not want this to stop them. Shame, this will turn other people away from drinking and eating here.

Steve C Dear Steve C thank you for taking the time to review the Fermain Valley hotel. I am sorry that we didn’t meet up to your expectation on your last visit. I can assure you that the service charge added to guests’ bills is completely discretionary and that if asked to remove it the service team will do so without question. Should you wish to visit us again I would be more than happy to offer you a complimentary coffee for two and to instruct the team to remove any service charge before presenting any bill in the future. Kind regards, Russ Brown. General Manager

Terrible reception - left waiting at front desk for 10mins with no one in sight. When a gentleman did arrive we were told that the room we had selected was not possible and shown another room which was dark and dingy. We left immediately and went on to have two super days at Old Government House where the importance of high level service and training was apparent.

Dear Sherpa Thank you for taking the time to review the Fermain Valley hotel. Please accept my sincere apologies for the wait you had at reception on your recent visit, this is certainly not our usual standard and indeed we normally score very highly on our check in and check out but on this occasion we dropped the ball and that is not good enough. I have checked your reservation and it was for two people in our tree house room, unfortunately on arrival you had a young person with you and we can’t accommodate a third person in the tree house rooms due to the configuration of the room and not being able to add an extra bed, this is why when booking the tree houses online there is no option to add a third person. We then offered platinum room number 29 which was not to your satisfaction. This room has sea views and is full of light but it wasn’t the room you had originally booked and you were disappointed. I am sorry that we were unable to meet your expectations on this occasion. Kind regards, Russ Brown

On checking in at the hotel we were given rooms 38 & 39. The suitability of these rooms were questioned as prior research on social media had suggested that these rooms were noisy and overlooked a service area. The receptionist insisted that this was not the case. On visiting the rooms it was found that the rooms overlooked the entrance to a restaurant or a service area where there was: a) staff stood smoking. b) loose rubbish on the floor. c) bins of empty bottles. d) some sort of plant/equipment. e) the strong smell of food. The strong smell of food and the potential for noise from bin related activities and plant/equipment would have prevented the windows from being left open overnight. Problems with the showers were reported but not acted upon whilst during our stay. Also: 1. From the C.I Travel Group printed brochure, “All rooms have…. & fresh fruit”. No fresh fruit was provided. 2. The ‘Ocean Greek Eats’ restaurant was closed in the evenings. The restaurant was used for breakfasts and light lunches (no necessarily Greek based) but nothing else. The bar that served the terrace was generally unmanned, and you had to go looking elsewhere in the hotel for someone to serve you. 3. The breakfast service was fairly hap-hazard, verging on Fawlty Towersesc. Some days you might get Tea & Coffee but no cups. Others you might get a rack with one half a slice of brown toast and half a slice of white toast. Other days you might get a full rack of white toast and another full of brown toast. 4. Comments made by several members of the staff suggested that there was not enough staff employed to run the bars and restaurants. 5. Most of the ‘Sun Terrace’ was barriered off for no apparent reason despite the hotel being full. 6. Whilst checking out, our car was reversed into by the hotel Courtesy Mini-bus. The driver of the curtsey made no apparent attempt to contact us but thankfully the incident was witnessed by another resident and captured on a dashcam.

Dear Martin Thank you for taking the time to review the Fermain Valley hotel. I am sorry that we have not met your expectations on this occasion. We have conducted a full review of all your points and made some tweaks to how we close down the restaurants in the evening to avoid disturbance. We did remove the fruit from the rooms due to possible flies in the summer but missed the CI brochure by mistake, for this I apologise. The terrace area is indeed open from 12pm until 7pm for food as we don’t want to disturb those rooms overlooking the Terrace but at that point our other two restaurants are open as are their bars. Again my apologies for not meeting your expectations on this occasion. Kind regards. Russ Brown

From the moment we rang to book, customer service from Gisa was superb, advising us on rooms and booking our ferry. The tree house rooms were stunning. We were looked after as if we were royalty. Fab food. Such attention to detail. Special mention to the following staff who went out of their way and anticipated our every need making our stay a dream - Georgia, Kevin, Ema, Bruno, Borislav and courtesy car drivers Ricky and Paulo. We will be back!
