It was really a great experience conducting our workshop at Bickleigh castle. We were delighted and overwhelmed with great hospitality and support from the castle management/ staff. Rooms were very spacious and tidy. Breakfast was really delicious and filling. This is easily one of the finest places that we have ever visited. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a family holiday or business related workshops.

Little gem of early English history - the grounds are fabulous, the castle and chapel full of historical value. Our two-day stay was very comfortable, and quiet: the premises clean and welcoming, the rooms were warm, beds hotel-style, bathroom all that you need, a generous breakfast. But unlike most hotels, wifi is only available in the main shared large sitting room - rather lovely to share a ‘social moment’ with others.

We stayed in the family room in the cottage. It was very clean and lovely. Everything was tidy and beds comfortable. My niece and nephew loved the room too and were very excited with the mini toiletries! ... we stayed because my sister and her new hubby had got married near by and stayed in the bridal suite which was stunning!! They invited us to have a look at the room and we were also allowed to have a look around the castle. The children especially loved this... Also the lounge area was lovely for guests and a good sized tv and comfy sofas and lots of games... Breakfast was lush and we were made to feel comfortable... John and Sarah were very kind and welcoming... Kirsty who I did most of my communication through during the booking process was just fab! Very polite and just could not do enough for me and those I was booking for!

The pictures advertised are very misleading, although the grounds are nice, the property and all the rooms are very dirty and run down. Sarah's only interest is to make money off her guests without giving them anything in return. The mattresses are very old and uncomfortable, the bedrooms and bathrooms are very dirty and full of cobwebs. A shame that this castle is owned by them, as they have no interest in maintaining this historical castle. Avoid staying here, the place is dirty and mismanaged. Just check the documantry on channel 4 to get an idea of how this place is run.

We know about this. It could not be a more misrepresentative and misleading review. The place is most definitely NOT dirty and run down. It was immaculately prepared for this staycation and, far from 'giving nothing in return' we made every effort to lay on things which we are not normally geared around, such as a brand new barbecue outfit and a new tumble drier. Given the Covid-19 issues resulting in the cancellation or postponement of all our weddings, which is our 'normal fare', we accepted several long 'staycations' between the lockdowns and this was one. It meant operating in a different way to the norm, and arranging things we do not normally need to arrange. The rooms are not and never are 'dirty and full of cobwebs'. There is not a modicum of truth in the comment about management as we largely left the group to it as that's the way they wanted it. There was a documentary which presented a fictionalised story and gave some misleading impressions (e.g that we had only one staff member, rather than six to eight). I have nothing more to say about this disgraceful review except for the fact that that there was an issue we had to deal with which clearly has resulted in this spiteful comment; it rather reflects the fact that one or two of the group had our staff reduced to tears, which has never happened before. Readers might be interested to know that the feedback we had at the time was that everyone in the group (adults and children) thoroughly enjoyed their stay, having barbecues, going to beaches and the countryside etcetera. Contrary to what they say, Bickleigh Castle is a nice place to stay and is not (as you might think) from the pages of Bram Stoker (see other more balanced reviews).

Great atmosphere. Beautiful landscapes and historic castle. The owner Sarah is extremely welcoming and generous with guests, offering our group a complimentary glass of wine and tour of the inside of the castle.
