When we booked it it said it had a indoor pool when we arrived was told it was closed till the 1st July2024 what’s the point of having a indoor pool spoilt our holiday The place was a bit basic a very noisy water and waste system Understand it’s a farm out of the way but must be a better system

Fabulous holiday, great location, beautiful accommodation and outstanding fishing lake with lots of stunning carp up to 12lb which the kids really enjoyed. The games room was heavily used too with the pool table and table tennis being particular highlights. All in all a great week and thoroughly relaxing.

We had a great week at Saunton Farm Cottages. The location is perfect for the beautiful nearby beaches and the site is very peaceful and tranquil. Ella and Stephen are very welcoming and friendly. The pool is a huge bonus and a rota is in place for covid safety so the pool is yours for an hour which is great. I’m sure we will be back. Thank you .

This was my 4th visit to Saunton Farm Cottages and this year I spent a glorious 3 weeks there. The cottages are well equipped and very comfortable. This year I stayed in Heron Cottage with the added bonus of a hot tub . Ella and Stephen are always really welcoming , very helpful and informative but never intrusive. It is an ideal location for a family holiday with both indoor and outdoor children’s play areas , table tennis, indoor swimming pool and a beautiful tranquil lake that is perfect for picnics, bbq,s or a quiet read . The surrounding beaches are beautiful and a short drive away or a lovely walk for those able and without small children. We spent most of our time enjoying the fabulous walks and gorgeous scenery and then relaxing on our return in the hot tub in our private garden.. bliss ! A lovely peaceful relaxing location for the perfect holiday. I have already booked for next year.

Well after reading all these previous reviews I’m wondering if I was staying in the correct place. The only thing I could agree on was it was lovely and quiet in the grounds. Not even a welcome from the owners on arrival or on departure, even though he entered the garden at 9 in the morning of departure and started cleaning the hot tub. Would have been nice to be asked may I come in and start cleaning. Or have you had a nice stay. Nothing. The swimming pool was very cold so after the first visit we didn’t go back. The cottage Heron was very noisy when you put any water taps on or flushed the toilet a loud noise was heard throughout. The cleaning needed a lot to be desired. Just don’t look behind the beds. Or up in the corners of the rooms. The kitchen was small but had all the appliance needed. During lock down you would have thought they would have spent a little time on the decor. Giving the place a good spring clean and a lick of paint. The garden was all overgrown and grass long. Needed a good cut back of the bushes. There were lovely walks around the lake. Also a play area for children. Just cannot understand how this place has claimed a 5 star rating.

Response from Ella Schiavon, Owner at Saunton Sands Farm
Responded 22 Sept 2020
I Ella did said hello to this guest family on the day they arrived - I greeted them on the Friday 11th outside the swimming pool and explained to them the swimming pool rota because of Covid and the best places to walk their dog. Later that day at 8pm they contacted us and demanded we come straight down and they said their TV was broken and we needed to replace it . Stephen went straight down despite having been working since 7am and being very tired he found immediately they had not followed a the procedure to turn it on and he did so - it was not broken Stephen had said hello as he entered and the writer of this review made some daft excuse to try and excuse her laziness and stupidity but did not apologise for calling him out. When they had arrived at 3 on the Friday their hot tub was already at 37 degrees. The swimming pool was always at about 28 degrees or above 1 degree above municipal pools. Stephen can recall no further contact with the Hughes until the 14th September at about 12 midday - he heard a great deal of noise coming from their garden. He thought this strange and as he walked away and looked over his shoulder at Mallard cottage some distance away he stopped when he saw 2 adult strangers leaving Heron our cottage with Marion Hughes the 2 star reviewer her husband son and dil and child in arms behind them. Monday 14th September had been publicised well in advance and 6 was the maximum allowed indoors - the family and 2 guests had breached the new covid restrictions. Stephen came to me and wanted to ask them to leave immediately as in particular we have 2 Hospital Consultants involved with treating Covid living on site and other key workers living on site and he is in particular very protective of them and he felt the Hughes behaviour placed them as well as others including me as I am vulnerable in jeopardy. I said we should do so if they repeated the behaviour I hate conflict he knows this and rather than put me under stress he agreed but said he would avoid them to avoid saying something. They would not have been able to see him where he was so outside Mallard so were not aware that he had seen them break the Covid rule of 6 and probably felt that they had not been seen and got away with it none were wearing masks indoors. He managed to avoid speaking to them for the rest of the week and on the Friday 18th the elderly man in the group said hello to him as he entered the garden at 9.10 and Stephen shouted hello back the adult son who came out at one point but he said nothing to Stephen. Stephen cleans the hot tubs early so that they are ready for the guest or nearly ready by the time the new guests arrive. He does not interfere with the occupants of the cottages in any way - guests post Covid leave by 9.30. We do not have mains water here shower pumps which come on for a few seconds and make a noise are used to ensure there is plenty of water pressure. We have noted their comments about cleaning and the garden but disagree. In our view Marion Hughes in particular knowingly and deliberately broke the law in our view protecting front line workers and the most vulnerable whilst here and subsequently lied about her visit here please make your own mind up about the veracity of her review.

My husband and I shared Moorhen cottage with a couple of friends for a weekend break in September. We found the accommodation clean, comfortable and well-equipped and highly recommend it. The site is quiet and peaceful, and we had a lovely view from our windows across a lawn and towards a paddock of sheep. There's a lovely walk through the trees and around the lake, all part of the holiday site. You can walk to the beach but we didn't try this as we wanted to go to the northern end of the beach where there is a café and shop and beach hut hire etc and a car park. Baunton is a short drive away with shops and restaurants, and there's a nice pub called The Thatch in nearby Croyde where we had dinner. it was very busy but the staff coped very well. If you are thinking of staying and want to use the swimming pool check the terms and conditions for opening times, as it tends to close outside of the school holidays. There is free wifi on site with a strong signal in the games room area, but this was not available in our room. We would definitely stay again if we revisit this lovely area!

This is our second family holiday here and we will definitely return for a third! Great location with an outdoor play area, lake and heaps of space to run around. Close to some great beaches plus an indoor pool, hot tub and games room for rainy days. Couldn’t ask for more!

Stayed here during May, couldn’t fault anything about this complex, the owners stephen & the lovely Ella, have this holiday resort running like clockwork, it’s got to be one of the best possible positions in North Devon, fantastic walks on your door step, great choice of beaches close by, award winning pubs like the Thatch inn Croyde, it’s just minutes away, my holiday cottage had absolutely everything I could want, felt like home from home, spotlessly clean too! Swimming pool is lush and warm, fishing lake on site, so safe for children as it’s all set in its stunning grounds. Well done guys, can’t wait to come back. Whoever stays at this little piece of North Devon heaven! Will 100 percent not regret it! Paul carss

We stayed for a week ( 18th-25th August) family of 4. Two children 11 and 13 years old. The swimming pool and hot tub were perfect after a day exploring. The cottages are in a great location for surfing or body boarding at Saunton Sands. Great walks into Braunton for great restaurants or over the sand dunes. Can park for £2 at toll rd or Saunton burrows and explore the area. Accommodation was good, fully equipped kitchen, comfy beds. The children made use of games room playing snooker or table tennis. After a long day surfing able to relax and watch a film good selection to borrow. My daughter 11 enjoyed feeding the sheep rich tea biscuits. Tesco and other shops at end of lane. Great location for days out in North Devon.
