Northcote Manor Country House Hotel is often celebrated for its cleanliness, with guests highlighting the spotless conditions and meticulous grounds. The serene atmosphere invites relaxation, although opinions on its dated decor suggest room for modern touches. While the comfort and spaciousness of the rooms are well-regarded, with some boasting beautiful views, the occasional too-soft bed has been noted.
The amenities, including a lovely spa and scenic grounds, garner appreciation, though opinions on the afternoon tea and decor vary. Service at the hotel generally receives high marks for being attentive, but it's not without occasional lapses.

Detailed Reviews
We recently stayed at Northcote Manor & Spa and can't recommend it enough, from the minute we arrived to the time we departed we enjoyed every minute. We booked a Suite which was very clean, roomy, and pleasantly furnished, we had a full size bathroom including a walk in shower. Lovely views overlooking gardens and fields beyond. We chose Dinner, bed & breakfast and we very much enjoyed the gourmet meals in the evening and our breakfasts. A really varied menu so suitable for all, in my opinion and I'm sure if you specified something else they would endeavour to fulfill your request. The staff were ALL friendly, helpful and professional - eager to make your visit as perfect as possible.
We also had full access to their beautiful, brand new, purpose built Spa, the location is stunning as it looks over the valley below and I'm certain in the Summer months many people will be enjoying the veranda with a few drinks after a relaxing time in the pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub - for the more active there's also a well equipped gym. In addition to all that, there are Therapists offering some really lovely treatments. It's a well thought out Spa with all the best equipment. I believe this will tempt more visitors to Northcote Manor in the future and they should be very proud of this investment.

Kate and I stayed at Northcote Manor for a long weekend as our first escape from COVID-19. We have been here 8 times in the past and are always impressed by the staff, facilities and scenic experience. However we felt that it is definitely worth mentioning the extremely high cleaning standards introduced to combat the virus and ensure that guests are protected to the highest level. All staff have been wearing face masks at all times, rooms were deep cleaned and restaurant and lounge areas fully disinfected after each sitting.
If anyone is nervous about taking a break, then please don’t miss out. Come to Northcote Manor and relax in luxury, enjoy excellent food and make the most of the North Devon walks that are within easy reach.

We stayed at Northcote Manor in North Devon a few days ago for 4 nights. This was our second stay at the Hotel. From the time we were there to the time we left the staff were absolutely fantastic. Their warm and friendly greetings each day and amazing service really made our stay very, very enjoyable. The team went out of their way to help you in any way they can. Every evening the food for dinner was incredible. The gourmet meal that we had one evening was one of the highlights of our trip and the food is on-par with a Michelin restaurant. The hotel have taken Covid-19 precautions and safety VERY seriously. The tables for dinner and breakfast were very spaced out and exceeded the 2metre minimum distance. All staff wore both masks and visors and the dining and breakfast rooms were cleaned and sterilised after every dinner setting each evening as we saw them doing this after everyone had finished their meals for the evening. The SPA staff were a delight and we felt very safe in the SPA. Again all precautions were taken to ensure that we were protected as much as we can be. The pool could be booked for one household only at a time, so that ensured that there was no mixing with other households whilst you swam. Basically you had the pool and jacuzzi to yourself for 45 minutes. All in all a fantastic trip, and we will definitely be staying again at some point in the future. We would also like to especially thank the staff that looked after us during our stay and our thanks go out to Richie, Simon and all the team, all of whom were a delight to speak to and with helping us if we needed anything. Nothing was too much for any of them.

We were looking for a good hotel to have a nice break for my birthday and our 50th wedding anniversary. After looking at a few hotels we chose Northcote Manor as we wanted to take our dog with us, who we paid extra for.
The food was perfect and some of the finest and tastiest we have ever had, the chef needs a mention here, and a thankyou from us.
Mitchell was very good in bringing our food to our room for us as we could not eat in the restaurant with our dog, and because of Covid 19, we could not eat in the bar either.
We could not take advantage of the full facilities available at this hotel even though we had paid well for the three night say. It would have been lovely also to have taken a swim in the new pool as we had hoped, but dogs are not allowed in that area either, we could have left him in the room, but we did not think this was fair.
HOWEVER, the 'suite' left a lot to be desired, as the view (said to be courtyard) was AWFUL and all we had to look at were two or three roof tops. You could just see the end of a field over these and a fence. If it had been ground floor, we would have only seen a small back yard which had seen better days.
We felt very deceived and disappointed as apparently 'all rooms have a view'. The hotel 'got away with this one'
After our five hour journey we finally arrived (13th August), booked in and were shown to our 'suite'. I asked the young lady who had booked us in if we could have a room with a better view and she told me that they were full up. We noticed that the room opposite ours, which was also a dog friendly room, was available on 14th August and still available when we left on 16th.
It was a front room with views over the front lawn, which would have been better anyday especially for our celebration. It would have been nice for the hotel to have moved us, if only just for the two nights of my birthday and anniversary, but this was not forthcoming.
Toiletries were sparce and we would have liked shampoo and conditioner and tissues. Air Conditioning ought to be considered as our room was incredibly hot with only two fans for two rooms.
No fruit or biscuits were in our suite either, even though this was mentioned on the hotel description.
As I say, we feel cheated and did not cheat the hotel by paying less. Arrived home deeply disappointed, and we will not return, with dog or without.

Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for the review and i am delighted that you enjoyed the food and for the 4 stars. To add some balance to the review and the room that you chose to stay in. At the time of booking I did explain Manor suite in quite some depth along with another room including the view to the rear. You went away and decided about the choices and chose Manor suite because of the separate lounge area to be able to dine with your dog. I am sorry we didn't move you during your stay when a forward facing room was available but this wasn't brought to my attention with regards any issues with the room. With regards the spa i am sorry but this room will remain dog free and we do charge £10.00 per night per dog. If you would like to discuss your stay with me please contact me directly and i will be more than happy to discuss your stay with you.

Booked a couple of nights at Northcote Manor before heading to a wedding at another location in Devon. We wanted a relaxing few days so we were mainly attracted to Northcote because of the spa. The spa was amazing, it was clean and relaxing and the staff were all lovely. The treatments we had were first class and well worth the money. It was a bit annoying having to book slots to use the pool as it meant planning ahead but actually it was quite nice that it meant we virtually had the pool to ourselves.
Now the the hotel. It was ok but could do with some investment. The staff we encountered were all lovely and polite and the room we had was spotless which meant we did have an enjoyable stay but I do feel that the hotel could be so much better. The furniture, lamps, curtains etc in our room were in need of a serious update, they probably hadn't be changed in about 30 years. Our room was huge which was great but it was incredibly stuffy and there were lots of flies buzzing around. There was also an unpleasant smell coming from the drain in the shower. The restaurant area lacked any kind of atmosphere. It could have done with some background music playing as it was so quiet you felt like people could overhear your conversation. The food we had was also average and not gourmet. It was more like the mass catered food that you might get served at a wedding. The 3 course menu was good value but quite limiting as we didn't want 3 courses on both nights so went elsewhere on our second night. The breakfast is also very average and the portions are too small. I ordered the poached eggs (note the plural on eggs) and received one sad poached egg on a tiny piece of toast. Maybe it was an attempt again at gourmet but it just came across as stingy. The coffee and tea available in the room is also very basic and the only coffee available at breakfast is filter coffee.
All in all we had a good stay at Northcote but it was mainly because of the spa and the friendly staff. The hotel building is lovely and has soooooo much potential but is in need of some serious investment. Probably wouldn't return unless it has been refurbed and the menu had been overhauled.

Thank you for your 4 star review. I am sorry to hear that you didn't fully enjoy our food and your breakfast. We have such amazing feedback in regards to both of these items but are disappointed when we have negative feedback. We will look at the breakfast orders because if you did ask for 2 poached eggs then that's what you should have been given. Please keep an eye on Northcote as we are always looking to improve where we can and are always investing in furnishings around the hotel.

Reading some other recent reviews, we would agree that the building, in some places, does need 'freshening up' but very probably after the disaster for all hoteliers that was Covid, it takes time to finance such projects. If you are looking for a lively, modern, recently built, characterless hotel, this is probably not for you.
A brand new spa is available and the recently employed gardener has already made good inroads on the lawns and outside areas. The chef thoroughly deserves the two rosettes from the AA for culinary excellence the hotel continues to be awarded.
Without doubt the true skill of the owner has to be in selecting exactly the right staff, all with a wonderful attitude to the customers who roll up. We can not thank every member of the staff too much for the way they treated us and for their unfailing attempts to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
This is a small (16 bedroom) quiet, country hotel on a secluded hilltop in north Devon that serves interesting meals. Well behaved dogs are welcome and present but not in the public rooms, (so are generally not seen) If you are a fan of murals by Barrington Barber (artist) then the dining room will be of special interest. (Not our cup of tea - but that is the nature of art)
Thoroughly recommended for those who desire a peaceful oasis from the stress of the current world.

We had a very brief ( one night ) stay at the Northcote Manor Hotel at the beginning of September . We booked it before lockdown and they honoured it despite not being short of customers now. It was their “Taster Menu” deal that included an excellent dinner with accompanying wines served by very efficient and knowledgable staff.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough if you are looking for an adult oriented, Covid- safe break. Lovely surroundings , excellent room and really friendly staff. I hope to make a longer return visit soon .

Have just returned from a very relaxing break at the Northcote with our two adult daughters, taking advantage of the 3 nights for the price of 2 dinner, bed and breakfast deal. The quality of food and personal service at this small boutique hotel were beyond expectations with plenty of choice on the menu. The 6 course tasting menu is well worth the £15 supplement, perhaps paired with recommended wines, served to us by the charming and knowledgeable Mitchell who had previously worked for a well known winery in the Napa Valley.
Good COVID arrangements and a lovely Spa which incorporates a large pool where numbers were restricted to 6 guests at a time in pre bookable slots.
In our experience, this is one of the best hotels in the area and is therefore highly recommended.

Myself and my sister had visited today on the 24/08 for my 30th birthday celebrations.
We just had the most amazing time in the spa. We were greeted by friendly and informative staff. We enjoyed a swim before a massage and mud wrap we had the duo room, the ladies who carried out the treatments were just so lovely we chatted and just felt so comfortable nothing was too much trouble. We then enjoyed a light lunch, followed by a brownie and tea a long sleep in front of the window watching the rain and then back into the spa area for the afternoon followed by more cream teas at 4.30pm I honestly did not want to leave. It was clean and I stayed in my robe all day- fresh towels available whenever you need them.
It is a well run clean spa although the slippers probably could do with being disposable as we noticed they had been re washed which isn’t too clean but would just wear my own flip flops next time. I 100% will be back and maybe for a stay at the hotel as-well the food was delicious!
The one thing I noted and it is just for feedback is the poor waitress bringing the food from the main house to the spa it was tipping down and she was in uniform I know she has to carry it but at least a brolly to keep her dry!

My wife and I spent a few days at the Northcote manor hotel. The setting is wonderfully tranquil and the hotel has a timeless feel to it. The staff are all amazingly welcoming, friendly and helpful. We felt very reassured about safety as the hotel has clearly carefully thought out its arrangements to be COVID safe. The small spa is modern and well designed and has fabulous views over the North Devon countryside. We would certainly stay here again and would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful escape.
