We stayed here a couple of years ago for a few nights in a family room with our twin girls. Unfortunately as we were driving down we were starting to feel unwell but persevered to the Dartmoor Lodge to a friendly welcome, help with our bags, and clean and lovely room all ready for us to stay... A little while later and we all started vomiting (apart from one twin who didn't get ill?!). I stress that there was no way we got it from staying in the room, we had brought the bug with us from friends we had just seen who had been ill. But the staff went above and beyond the call of duty, bringing us fresh water bottles, cleaning the loo with bleach, and asking us if we wanted anything - we managed some dry toast and apple juice by the end of our stay I seem to remember, but the lasting impression was one of really unequalled care for us. It was as if we were family to them, visiting the room regularly to check up on us and see if we needed anything. It is to my shame that I have not written this review sooner. We have been again today, visiting local family, and we were again impressed by the kind friendly service great carvery lunchtime meal and a new look dining room, much fresher and more modern feel. They continue to do a great job at looking after people and I think everyone reading the reviews should know! My heartfelt THANK YOU goes to the staff for all your help to me and my family in our hour of need, and my sincerest apologies for the delay in writing it. You are doing a wonderful job and I wish you all the best in your business. Kindest regards, Emma Newcombe

We have just come back from a lovely 3 night break staying at the Dartmoor Lodge. It's a fabulous location. Great for for the coast and the moor itself, you could not find a better place to locate yourself for a holiday in Devon. The staff are amazing and so friendly. They are all very passionate about customer service, and if there are any issues they are quick to rectify it. Food is freshly prepared and good portions. The tables were laid out perfectly, enough room to social distance, and all staff were wearing mask, which must of been so uncomfortable, but they obviously cared about their customers. when we arrived we had to fill out a questionnaire and also had our temperature taken. there were plenty of antibacterial stations situated around the hotel and we felt very safe there. If there was one criticism it would be the room we were in. It was a little bit tired and dated and could do with with modernising, and lack of air conditioning was an issue, but they were clean and the shower was perfect, hot and powerful. We had a good night sleep. Thank you for a lovely stay, and if we were to have a holiday in Devon I would be a returning customer.

A nice hotel all round, but...

The mattress was appalling - springs rolling against each other all night, and the sides sloped down so we rolled off the bed unless we clung to each other in the middle. I guess it was seriously worn out. Probably the worst mattress I've ever experienced! Otherwise the room was fine, and very clean.

The bathroom was really good, with a great shower room. But....why no shelf or soapdish? Where do we put the free soap/shampoo/conditioner whilst showering?

There was a good buffet breakfast laid out, with everything we needed. But....why no natural yoghurt - only ones with artificial fruit flavours? The staff seemed really surprised when we asked for natural yoghurt! And I have to say, in all honesty, the filter coffee (Kona?) was really not very good. We left it and bought a coffee down the road.

In summary, it's a hotel with great potential, let down by little things. Well, actually, the mattress was a major thing - avoid Rm 308 like the plague! The reception however was excellent. All the staff were cheery and friendly. The hotel and garden were clean, tidy and well maintained. I'd go again if those issues were sorted.

We have just stayed two nights in this venue for a friends wedding. The hotel itself is small, and has a cosy feel to it. What makes this hotel stand out are the staff. Every single staff member we came into contact with were naturally friendly (as opposed to 'been on a customer service course' friendly), made us feel very welcome and that nothing was too much trouble.

The food was delicious both in the evenings, and at breakfast. Its a very relaxed atmosphere and we can thoroughly recommend the carvery.

There was only one down side for us and thats how thin the walls are (at least in the annexe bit), as we could clearly hear someone on the phone in another room late at night and quite a bit of creaking from the floor above. However for the price point its not a major issue, and to be fair without substantial rebuilding work its not something that can be easily sorted. The room cleanliness was great, nice big shower and confortable beds.

We wouldnt hesitate to stay here again, left very happy. Quite literally the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed in.

Before we had even arrived it was perfectly clear that this was going to be an exceptional break both from the tone of their emails and phone conversations they could not have been more helpful. On arrival we were greeted by one of the receptionists who explained how things worked and then showed us to our room.

The room was very clean and had two very comfortable arm chairs a large screen television and all of the tea and coffee making facilities there was even a phone so that we could contact reception if we needed anything.

Every meal that we had during our stay was of exceptional quality everything was freshly prepared in their kitchen and was piping hot when it arrived at our table.

The staff were by far the stars of the show nothing was too much trouble for any of them and they went out of their way to to make sure that this was going to be stay to remember for all of the right reasons everyone of them had part to play and they all helped to make our stay very memorable and we will will certainly be returning for another visit

In short i want to thank Emma and everyone at The Dartmoor Lodge for a wonderful and easy going 60th Birthday for my wife.
On the first visit to see what they could do for us we spoke to Emma, who was so helpful and arranged the conference room with outside seating .She gave advise and listened to what we wanted offered all the information that we needed.
On the day the tables were set in a very high standard and everything set we we planned .
The starters were amazing and the mains also of a very big portion size , all was enjoyed well done the the chef.
The waitron was friendly and very efficient yet not hanging around and in the way.
If you are looking to celebrate a special day , look no further The Dartmoor Lodge is where to go. Well done to all who helped.

A quick phone call to make sure we could sit inside on one of the hottest days of the year and double checked online menu too - all really easy and friendly.
Table by open window in dining room and really well looked after. Both had cod and chips and we were warned - it's big... But it was quality not just quantity the fish was perfect - we didn't even have a bone! Staff were lovely. Thanks folks we'll be back.

We had a two night stay here and can't recommend it enough. The staff are excellent, everyone of them polite to a fault and can't do enough for you. Special mention to Hayley and Penny who were so helpful and engaging with us despite having other pressures. What was great about this was it appears to be the norm and not the exception, they demonstrated this with all guest we saw them engage with.
The rooms are very clean as is the hotel. Perfectly situated for visiting Dartmoor National park and ample parking.
The menu for dinner is straight forward with ample selection and the portion sizes were very generous. Breakfast likewise, is cooked fresh and plenty of choice between full English, cereal, etc.
At this time they still have various covid restrictions that are followed well by the staff, plenty of masks and hand cleaning evident despite no legal requirement and very warm temperatures.
I will definitely be booking again and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed here for one night before we caught our ferry to Spain. After travelling nearly 300 miles in torrential rain, it was so nice to see the clouds part over Dartmoor!
Still very Covid aware ( masks on at all times) our receptionist was more than helpful and extremely friendly.
The rooms are situated in a type of annex, where you’re given a security code to get into the block.
Our room , which looked as if parts of it had recently been refurbished ( shame the furniture hadn’t ) was spacious , and extremely clean. The views from our window were wonderful as well.
We also had dinner and breakfast at the hotel, which were very good, although the menu could have done to have been a little less basic.
All in all a very pleasant stay, and superb value for money.

Newton Abbott, is only a short distance away, so if you have your own transport it should be OK, but if using public transport they may be places to eat, Denbury is located between Dartmoor Lodge and Newton Abbot. Some of the road in the area can be a little challenging, so if you are not happy with single track roads and possible reversing if you meet traffic, take care on the roads you chose once of the main road.
