Gages Mill is a family owned and run Guest House / Bed and Breakfast located on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, on the outskirts of the town of Ashburton. We have seven guest rooms comprising; six doubles, one twin and a family room that we can provide with a double and temporary full sized single bed and, if requested, a single blow up mattress bed. We purchased Gages Mill in September 2009 and have carried out extensive renovation and improvement works with our aim being to create an atmosphere and environment which we would ourselves appreciate if we were staying for a night or more. We love it - we think you will too. Kindest regards, Kate and Nathan.

We spent a brief but enjoyable stay with our two boys.
Wonderful welcome and extremely aware of Covid restrictions which was reassuring. Rooms were full of character and the views across the countryside were beautiful. Very comfy beds combined with total peace and quiet made for a good sleep.
Location is great for exploring the area and nearby Ashburton is a short distance away.
Breakfast was fresh, piping hot and came with plenty of toast, coffee and tea.
This was our first visit but we’re already planning for our return to stay a little longer.

Our five night stay exceeded our expectations. Kate and Nathan were such welcoming hosts, from the minute we arrived to the time that we departed. They engage so well with their guests, have a personable and friendly nature and they made our stay extremely enjoyable and relaxing. The guest house is extremely well appointed, in a beautiful settling and very handily situated, just off the A38, making a fine base for exploring Devon. Covid measures were very thorough and adhered to by proprietors and guests. We would not hesitate to revisit and it is very highly recommended. Thank you for a wonderful stay and for the memories.

Katie and Nathan are the perfect hosts. They are a lovely couple who looked after us so well and at short notice when we had a problem with our family caravan booking. Nothing was too much trouble and we are eternally grateful. The garden is idyllic and we were so lucky to be able to sit out on the warm nights while the children played. The rooms are spotless, the beds comfy and the place feels relaxing and homely. We stayed on a room only basis but saw the breakfasts being served, they looked delicious! Highly recommend.

A beautiful property set in lovely well kept gardens, with an array of wildlife and birds to see from the comfort of your room or from the outside seating.

Gages Mill is in a great location to explore the area. Ashburton can be walked to in 25 minutes, or a 5 minute drive. There are plenty of lovely walks in Dartmoor within a 10 minute drive. It is approximately a 45 minute drive to Salcombe if you fancied a day by the sea during your stay too.

Kate and Nathan were great hosts, making us feel welcome and giving recommendations for places to eat locally.

The room we had was quite small, but was very clean and comfortable, and well equipped. Covid procedures were good and I felt safe throughout our stay.

The breakfast is great, with a lovely fresh fruit salad available as well as amazing traditional and veggie fry ups. A great way to set you up for a day of exploring the moors!

I would recommend Gages Mill to anyone who wanted a lovely place to stay in the area, and I would love to come back again!

I had 5 wonderful days at Gages Mill and just wished it could have been longer. Kate and Nathan were the perfect hosts: most welcoming in these strange times and mindful of need for safety and social distrancing. The measures put in place were very reassuring.
Breakfast was served at set times as 2 sittings to ensure social distancing could be maintained - great cooked breakfast.
Room and facilities were ideal and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. A perfect retreat and hope I may find the excuse for a return visit.

As boys with bikes we couldn't have asked for more. We were told we could store the bikes securely if required. Fantastic location with very easy access to main roads. Beautiful countryside with challenging terrain for cyclists. The breakfast was spot on, lots and lots of choice and the fact one could start the day with a large bowl of fresh fruit was a win! It is worth mentioning that COVID secure measures were appropriately enforced, a good thing obviously. COVID did not detract from our stay, we were perfectly happy and comfortable throughout. Thanks for having us!

Hi drappehs - thank you for leaving this really positive review following your stay with us back in October 2020. Nathan and I remember you both well and remember that it was really nice to have met you and have you stay with us - you were (are) both really nice positive people - and we had great respect (perhaps envy) of the energy you had for your bike rides across our pretty hilly local area:)! Thanks again for staying with us, we hope you both remain safe and well, kindest regards, Kate and Nathan.

Kate and Nathan were exceptional hosts. We stayed seven nights, whilst house hunting. The breakfast was varied and all from local suppliers, and the room was comfortable and well decorated.

Kate and Nathan could not do enough, suppling us with extra wine glasses and allowing us to use the garden as if it was our own. The range of bird life was stunning. eleven woodpeckers, nesting buzzards and other raptors, as well as a multitude of finches and tits.

Their house is based within easy reach of the moor and access onto the A38. There are numerous good restaurants and pubs close by. The wine shop in Ashburton has an extensive range of spirits, wines and beer.

Thank you for a fantastic stay Kate and Nathan, hope we see you again.

p.s. just found your bottle opener, will return.

Nathan and I of course remember you both well - we enjoyed our end of day catch ups:) Thank you for all of the really positive feedback, we're really pleased that you like the house, your room and the garden. We had a four night stay at Gages Mill the second week of August. It is set in a beautiful countryside location, so peaceful, yet convenient for both coastal and Dartmoor visits. The B &B is perfect, the rooms have a real countryside feel to them and the absence of televisions in the guest rooms is truly in keeping with the ambience of the place. The surrounding gardens are beautiful and from our room we were able to view an array of birds feeding from the feeders in the garden. A good selection of breakfasts were available, all very well organised and excellent Covid precautions in place. Nathan and Kate were very helpful and have excellent local knowledge. I would highly recommend a stay here and would love to return at sometime in the future.

Hi RCWales64 - Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this 5 / 5 Star review of your stay with us back in August 2021. Sorry it's taken a while to reply - to be honest - come the end of 2021 we were exhausted! We are really grateful for all of your really positive feedback and observations. Gages Mill is in the perfect location to explore both Dartmoor and the South Devon coast. The house has a lovely spacious garden and is situated just a 20min walk or 4 min drive out of Ashburton. Kate and Nathan are wonderful hosts, very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, nicely decorated, well equipped and we had a fabulous view. Each day stated with Kate's wonderful breakfast cooked to order. Perfect

We had an absolutely brilliant stay at Gages Mill. The hosts, Kate and Nathan, couldn't have been more welcoming or done enough for us.

They have a stunning home with beautiful views and the place is spotlessly clean.
Lovely cosy and well-equipped room

Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

Also, the Covid-19 situation taken seriously and multiple safety measures have been implemented to ensure safety for all without impeding the guest experience whatsoever. Great effort has been put in.

The whole experience was a treat from start to finish, I can't sing praises highly enough. Only wish we were able to spend more time there on this trip.

Hello JillianWeffs - thank you so much for leaving this lovely review following your stay with us back in July 2020. Yes, what a year it has been - and continues to be. Nathan and I are both really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Gages Mill. We're both really pleased that you liked the house and, of course, us;) Thank you for also recognising the things we have done to make us as Covid secure as possible. It was an interesting season and we think we have really seen the best of people - we've had to make changes, there were extra rules and we could not do all the things that we would normally do - but every guest we've had has been really supportive of these changes - which was both a great relief and a really uplifting one. We hope you are both safe and well and to welcome you back again some day. Kindest regards, Kate and Nathan.
