This is a truly wonderful location by the River Teign with woodland and a handy enclosed dog field. The hotel itself is very nicely decorated and maintained. The staff are attentive and helpful. Our room looked newly refurbished with a huge bathroom. It was thoughtfully equipped with items for our dog as well as guests. It was on the 1st floor with a peaceful outlook onto the garden. Guests gather in the lounge for drinks and choose their menu before dinner. This was a bit slow as they were busy. The food was beautifully cooked. Two courses would be enough really but we over-indulged. The pricing for food was fair although the drinks were possibly over priced.

Hotel's Favourite
This delightful small hotel wraps you in a warm hug and was a perfect destination for our one night getaway. The traditional old building is tucked away in beautiful Devonian countryside and is attractively decorated throughout. Our room, at the top of the hotel, was very characterful and comfortable with a pretty view and an elegantly functional en suite (lovely products). A nice touch, too, was the offer (in the room literature) of a choice of pillows and bedding to suit. Our dinner was fab...really delicious, well presented food from start to finish. Excellent wine and service. Good breakfast too. Finally, the staff were all great...helpful and friendly. A special place to stay and we hope to return.

2nd time we've come to Mill End and it's very much becoming our go to place when we visit Devon! We stayed in the amazing new Teign suite this time and were blown away! If you want to spoil yourself I'd highly recommend. Dinner is even better than last time, I had the venison and my partner the duck and both were exquisite! All the staff are super friendly and really do go above and beyond! I'd recommend the walk towards castle drogo too as the views are stunning!

Great location on the edge of Dartmoor. Easy and plentiful parking. Wonderful welcome on check-in. Room was lovely, linen high quality. View of the front garden, the sound of rushing water in the river, and the general environment was pleasant (despite noisy crows roosting nearby!). Bathroom was spacious, with a shower-over-bath. There was some noticeable noise from neighbouring rooms. We dined in. Food was good, service was entertaining. Our server, an amiable young person had already told us he hated hospitality and couldn't wait to leave, to "flip properties". Later he quipped to my partner when serving desert "here's the tart for a tart not that I am saying she is a tart but she might be". Fortunately, we chuckled. Check out was easy and complimented with a token gift from the Hotel.

We too are returning Guests . Love the location. A relaxing small Country House style Hotel that is very well run in a excellent location, just north of Chagford and on the edge of Dartmoor. Very comfortable bedroom , king size bed and small balcony with River views -it flows through the grounds . A big USP is the quality of the food. See Exec Chef William Broom has been awarded AA 2 Red Rosette status this year . Really well deserved Will. Another excellent Dinner - how great too that a Cheese Board is offered as a Desert in the set menu , without extra charge . A very good Breakfast also, with Salmon, Haddock and Kippers available also. All very freshly cooked to order. Not so sure about the Optional Service Charge added to the food/ drinks element of the bill though .

We have been to Mill End before. We love the quiet location by the river, the walks and the comfortable room. The surrounding area is great to explore - Chagford and Castle Drogo for example. However the best part really is the beautiful food!

Couldn’t fault our night away. We stayed the WOLF room which is located just outside of the main building with a lovely short walk by the mill. We were treated extremely well by all members of staff and enjoyed beautiful walk around the grounds and local areas. Food was fantastic and good selection of wines to top of the evening.

i read the other excellent review at the same time I was there. Lovely location, great food, delightful staff but I was given a dreadful room, certainly no fluffy pillows, rickety furniture, had to go outside in the rain to reach the room whichI asked to be on the ground floor as have a problem walking at the moment, slippery steps to reach the room. TV didnt work - hoping to watch the rugby. To be fair they deducted £30 off but be very careful when booking, state clearly to have a room in the hotel. Perfect for dogs.

Hi Sarah, Thank you for taking the time to leave the review, although it was a shame to hear your thoughts on Mardle. Mardle (Which is a small double, the smallest room in the hotel) is a very popular room because it is on the ground floor (Only two outside steps which go into the building) and has a lovely decking which looks out over the Garden - obviously with the horrific weather it's a shame you didn't get to enjoy this and it does seem from your review the weather has had a big part to play in your thoughts of the room! We are sorry for the issue with the TV, we wish we had known this at the time so we could've swapped a TV around and sorted, however hoped the £30 off as an apology would've helped ease the issue! Needless to say the TV was fixed within an hour after you had left! It's really surprising to hear that you thought the room had rickety furniture, as it was brand new less than 3 years ago and we go over each and every room every winter ensuring everything is in good nick. We are struggling to find what is rickety, if you could let us know what you are referring to so we could look at it that'd be great! It's great to hear you enjoyed the location, food and staff, we really do pride ourselves on all 3 and our team work incredibly hard to go above and beyond at all times. There are photos of all the rooms on our website, so you can see exactly what they look like prior to booking, however for ground floor rooms within the hotel which are dog friendly, there is Erme, Swincombe and Yealm. We hope to welcome you back soon albeit it in a different room! Kind Regards, Alex

This was my third time at Mill End and definitely won't be the last. It just gets better and better! Travelling as a couple with a dog, it has everything we need. Well-appointed, comfortable rooms, fantastic food, plenty of room to sit and relax, and great walks right on the doorstep. We love the restaurant and pre-dinner drinks, and the quality and service are both excellent. Attention to detail is first class and everything is well-timed : for example, while you enjoy a leisurely breakfast, your room is efficiently cleaned so that it is then completely yours for the rest of the day. There are a variety of different rooms, from standard rooms to suites, and many are dog-friendly (check when booking). Four-legged friends are greeted with their own welcome letter and treat box, and there is also a boot room with dog shower and towels. You can choose to have your dog dine with you in specially designated areas, or to leave them in your bedroom if you prefer. All in all a brilliant hotel and completely recommended. Well-priced too : neither the cheapest nor the most expensive place to stay, and overall I think it's good value and well worth it.

Wow,what a find, This hotel has been on our radar for a little while and we kick ourselves for not staying here sooner. The welcome we received was warm and genuine. We were shown to our room which was Lemon, what a lovely room and view over the hill. There was a fridge with fresh milk which was a lovely touch as well as the shortbreads. The stand alone bath was great to lay back and relax. The iron and ironing board was in the room awaiting as I had called prior to ask if there was use of one. The restaurant has lovely white linen which looked fresh and inviting. The food was absolutely gorgeous and compliments to the Chef and team. Everything was delicious. Breakfast was also a delight with good quality produce. All the staff were friendly and happy to engage in a chat, we were made to feel at home. We were handed a goodie bag on check out, which was a nice touch. We look forward to a return visit in the near future.
