Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an unforgettable stay at Gidleigh Park thanks to the incredible staff (such as Marek, Alex, Charlie, and Catherine but really the entire team!), exquisite meals, and spectacular scenery. Everything about this hotel is outstanding and we left feeling very fortunate to have visited this magical place in Dartmoor. We cannot wait to go back!

We enjoyed every minute of this our third stay at Gidleigh Park. This time to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Gidleigh is a listed, important arts & crafts house nestled in delightful Devon woodland. The house is beautifully maintained & presented with well chosen art and antiques. The attention to detail in every respect is second to none, and we felt privileged to stay here. Our room (Huckerby) was full of light and overlooked the immaculate gardens, tumbling river Teigne & autumnal woodland. We loved watching the sunrise whilst lying in possibly the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in! The food was very good, and exquisitely presented. The service was a highlight, pitched perfectly between polite, friendly & helpful. We enjoyed gorgeous Devon walks from the door through wood and moorland. We walked along the river Exe Estuary to see the wading birds & caught the train back. Great fun. I think you can tell we enjoyed our stay, we are checking our calendars to book a return visit.

We took advantage of the autumn package and had a delightful stay. The staff are extremely courteous, helpful and are more than happy to share their knowledge of the area and hotel if you ask. This is a gorgeous place to stay but also feels very homely and welcoming. Good walks in the area and a beautiful water garden. Loved coming back.

One should never miss the Gidleigh experience. As much we would love to keep the experience to ourselves it is faultless. From the meet and greet, room quality and much appreciated menu changes, Chris Eden has really upped his game!

We stayed for one night. Dinner was very good but not cheap at just under £150 each inc service for 3 courses, plus drink etc extra . We had booked and paid for a Valley View room but . . . there was no valley view. At. checkout, I asked reception to adjust the room charge accordingly but they said that the room had a garden view and they regarded that as being a valley view! They wouldn’t back down so I asked if they were happy for me to repeat that in a review and they said that they were. The view from the bed was a blank wall and to see the view, you had to go to the door to the terrace. The cost of the room was £470. Pictures attached. We’re pretty well travelled and I have occasionally paid more for a room but not a room like this in the middle of nowhere. Overall, the place may be struggling, eg fireplaces not lit.

This was our 5th visit to Gidleigh and we are never disappointed. The whole experience is amazing. From the beautiful rooms to the amazing food and the attentive staff like Simon, Alex, Charlie and Emily. Definitely our favourite place. We completed the lovely long walk this time, which had amazing views.

Beautiful room, fabulous view from the room, watched a stunning sunrise in bed. Restaurant food and wine immaculate and worthy of mire Michelin stars. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. About as perfect as it gets.

This hotel combines a spectacular location with great service and excellent food. Situated on the River Teign, the hotel's gardens and environs afford pleasant walks and access to the moor. The rooms are well-appointed and extremely comfortable. The restaurant offers world class Michelin star dining, while the lounge menu offers tasty simple fare at very reasonable prices. Very good wine menu. The staff are outstanding: attentive, kind, and charming. As a base for exploring Devon or walking the moors, Gidleigh Park cannot be matched.
