Visited here for valentines day with my girlfriend after visiting the adjoining campsite last summer and was absolutely thrilled with the B and B. Michelle and Kevin who both run it are very welcoming and very respectful of personal space whilst also ensuring that the service provided is top-tier. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful and definitely one of a kind location with wide valleys and beautiful sweeping Moors out of one window, to a little winding river and wooded area at the bottom of the land directly visible from the bed. Breakfast offered was a selection of cereals and juices alongside some fresh pastries, although cooked options were available. We travelled by car so are unable to comment too much on accessibility via other methods, but by car is definitely recommended if you have specific places you intend to visit (there is a lot to do in the surrounding area). But from what I noticed nearby bus services seem frequent and cover a wide area, not to mention if you are also a big walker you will love the insane choice of trails and paths that surround! And im sure pre-booked cabs would not pose an issue here as the property still sits fairly low down in the moors compared to what awaits if you visit! Overall a very enjoyable experience, Kevin and Michelle you were excellent hosts and we both wish you both the best and will no doubt be back as your property has given us an absolute love and admiration for the area you live in. The service from you both was nothing but perfect and you are both so knowledgeable it made our planned days out that much better. Thank you so much for a great trip! Lots to do in the nearby area no matter how you travel, car would be recommended to see specific areas but for general exploration there are plenty of trails and villages within walking distance Rooms were very clean and well presented, en suite bathroom was an absolute pleasure and finished to very high standards During our stay the B and B offered home cooked meals, which im told is a new trial they are running if booked in advance, and im sure this will be very well recieved by most visitors as food nearby would require a trip into nearby settlements for fish and chips, kebab, pizza etc. We didnt get the chance to try the on site dinners during our stay because we were quite unorganised with our day to day plans, but after reading the options they sound like amazing, home cooked meals that will be perfect after a long day out on the moors. We took many drive’s through the Moors throughout our visit, making sure to stop in all the local villages such as Bovey Tracey, Princetown, and Postbridge. Nearby attractions such as the Fernworthy Reservoir and Bellever forest are stunning areas of land I would visit again in a heartbeat

Dear Sightseer Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful experience at our B&B! We are thrilled to hear that you and your girlfriend had such a fantastic stay and were able to explore the beauty of the surrounding area. Your kind words about our hospitality, service, and cleanliness are truly appreciated. We strive to ensure that all our guests feel welcomed and comfortable, and we're delighted to know that we achieved this during your visit. We're especially glad that you like the sound of our new trial of offering home-cooked meals, even if you didn't get a chance to sample them. We will continue to provide this option for future guests. We're also pleased to hear that you found our location ideal for exploring the breathtaking landscapes of the Moors, nearby villages, and attractions such as Fernworthy Reservoir and Bellever Forest. We agree that having a car can make it easier to explore specific areas, but we're glad you found plenty of trails and villages within walking distance as well. Thank you for your lovely compliments about our property and for choosing to stay with us during your Valentine's Day trip. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you both back in the future, and we wish you all the best in your travels. Always book direct if you can for the best value. Kind regards Michelle & Kevin

Received a very warm welcome upon arrival. The room was well equipped and warm. Comfortable bed. Hot and well pressured shower. Wi fi was good considering the rural location. Beautiful surroundings. The home made produce of jams, bread ,fruit juices and the eggs from their chickens was delicious. Really liked their sustainability ethos. Plenty of dog friendly pubs nearby. I recommend The Cleave in Lustleigh village and The Union in Moretonhampstead. Great place to stay if you want to explore Dartmoor National Park. Bellever Forest is a 25 minute drive and Canonteign Falls is only 20 minutes. Will definitely return.

Room was nice with lovely view. Sadly rained when we were there so didn’t get the full advantage of the lovely garden. We stayed in the B&B as there was a group of our friends camping at the campsite so it was ideal. Simple breakfast - Cereal, fruit juice, plain yogurt & home made bread & gluten free bread which was appreciated. Cook your own eggs; there were 5 left out. We were the only guests in the B&B. We boiled all 5 eggs as we don’t eat cereal. Owner remarked ‘have you cooked all the eggs for you? We will have to charge for the extra, you can’t feed the whole campsite’. We were quite shocked. There was nothing to say we were limited to the number of eggs & why leave 5 out if we weren’t supposed to be eating them? My husband had cycled 100 miles the day before so needed some protein. I ate 1 small bowl of yogurt, 1 slice of bread & 2 eggs. My husband ate the gluten free bread that was provided & 3 boiled eggs - not a huge amount. Just a little odd & would put us off staying again to be honest which was a shame as everything else was nice.

Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed the stay at our B&B and am truly sorry there was a misunderstanding over the eggs at breakfast but I'd like to place some context on your remarks for other readers of your review and hope that we can persuade you to change your mind and stay again now that we know what you like. As with all our guests we asked you the evening before what time you would like to come for breakfast and you asked for 8am. When I came into the breakfast room at about 7:45 am to finish laying out the rest of the breakfast items to be ready for 8am, it was evident that you had already been there for some time and had helped yourself to what we had laid out the night before. The "simple continental breakfast " is included free in your stay. It contains a high proportion of homemade and home-produced items, including our own apple juice, natural bio yoghurt, white and brown bread made from locally milled heritage grains, gluten free bread, eggs and prize-winning preserves all of which we did not have a chance to tell you about. We also provided gluten free cereal as you did not tell us at any point during your stay that you did not eat cereal. If you had let us know you wanted an earlier breakfast, we would have explained everything the night before and made sure it was all ready for whatever time you requested. Yes, there were 5 eggs out but you were not the only people who were due for breakfast that morning, and our other diners may also have liked to have had a fresh egg from our 4 laying chickens. Normally I help guests with the egg boiler and have a chance to explain this. I asked your husband if they were all for him and he said yes as he was cycling, but not that 2 were actually for you. I in turn was shocked as I felt 5 eggs was an unreasonable amount for 1 person to take on a free breakfast. My joke about the campsite were related to your 5 friends who I knew were camping and you were not in fact charged extra. For those in need of extra proteing bacon butties are an optional extra which we can make with gluten free bread. I agree that in the end you did not have very much for breakfast despite the selection available but I did not know this would be the case at the time I made my comment. The only mitigation I can make in my defence is that you caught me unawares so early in the morning when I thought I still had at least 15 minutes to prepare myself. Sincerest apologies Michelle

This was a practice for wild camping without being completely wild. The pitches were clearings in the wood by the stream with space for a fire. I think only three or four pitches so very well spaced out. But also available at the main house was a very clean toilet, spacious shower, microwave and kettle. Plus a phone charging point. Very useful. Extremely quiet. Very friendly hosts. Good commitment to sustainability. Close to Wray Valley Trail (for bikepacking cyclists). An easy ride (2 miles) into Moretonhampstead for shops and swimming pool. Highly recommend.

Such a beautiful place to spend some time. Very tranquil down by the river listening to the water and owls in the evening. Michelle and Kevin were extremely welcoming and helpful especially when planning walks that are easily done straight from the campsite. Being able to purchase logs from the campsite was very useful and the free kindling pile was invaluable for getting a good campfire going. Showers were under construction while I was visiting, though easy enough to wash in the river or rig up a shower in the woods. The tree bog was very clean, very well made and great to have as a step between a hole in the ground and a flusher. Great place to get back to nature and enjoy the countryside.

We had intended to spend a few nights camping at Wray valley camp site. However, after one night, the wettest May on record made us change our plans. Fortunately, Michelle and Kevin had space at their B & B and were able to accommodate us. They were amazing hosts and took great care of us. A huge living room with a log burner warmed our cold wet bones and two of the best night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast gave us the energy we needed for the rest of our break. If you’re looking for somewhere to stay in the area, book now!!
