Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic meal and service - not very often you have a meal that you simply couldn’t replicate at home. Amazingly skilful chef and team. Not a chip in sight fantastic. A meal we will remember for a very long time as we were celebrating our daughters 21st. Thank you for a memorable evening

Excellent food, well priced and very friendly and helpful staff. Thank you. I also want to add a footnote to this review. I did give this hotel a very bad review earlier, for which I humbly and sincerely apologise. Some friends of ours booked a table at another establishment, where the food was atrocious, and having visited The Dartmoor a few weeks ago,got them mixed up.Hopefully they will be able to,with my absolute permission, delete it.I am so sorry. Thank you.

We stayed in the Brentor room and was blown away by this beautiful clean room. Large bathroom. We ate both dinner and breakfast here. Both of which were delicious. An awful lot of locally sourced produce used and a good selection of wines. As this place was situated on the main road I was concerned about traffic noise. However the windows were glazed well and heard very little so don’t be put off by this. Comfortable bed. Decor was tasteful. Well equipped coffee and tea tray in room with a fridge. . Would go back tomorrow.

Recently stayed at the Dartmoor Inn on route to the ferry. This place is well worth a visit wether you stay the night or have lunch or dinner. We received a very warm welcome from ALL the staff who could not do enough for us during our stay. Everything is done to a very high standard and the attention to detail was excellent. One particular plus for us was the menu being so GF friendly.

We booked a room here as a stop-over en route to Falmouth, largely because there was a restaurant that we could eat at. Our room was very spacious, the bed was comfortable and there were facilities for making a hot drink. However, the main asset of this Inn is its staff, who were extremely helpful and could not have done any more for us. There were a couple of negatives: the surface of the car park was extremely rough and difficult to wheel cases over, and the stairs up to the rooms were very narrow, with a bend at the top immediately before a door, so were extremely awkward to manoeuvre a suitcase round. However, these were small points in comparison with the welcome and facilities.

We had a wonderful delicious meal in this pretty pub at Lydford, We were out with a few friends and we all agreed it was one of the best meals we've had for a long time, yes it was a bit dearer than other pubs but for a treat I would really recommend it. Staff lovely and efficient too.

We stayed here en route to Cornwall. It had been hard to find anywhere available and I was surprised to find it free. It should be full all the time! It was delightful and we couldn’t fault it. The young staff were friendly and helpful, the room was large and the bed was so comfortable. But the best thing of all was the food. Sensational. Beautifully cooked and presented and because of this, fairly priced. Between us we had the crab salad (so pretty), the ham hock, the duck leg and the venison. All delicious. My husband then gave in and had sticky toffee pudding which I had a spoonful of - this pud is so ubiquitous, it can be boring. But this was sticky and unctuous and sweet and creamy. We eat out a lot (when we’re allowed!) and this meal was the best we’ve had in ages. Breakfast was also good with lovely yogurt and granola, perfect poached eggs and crispy bacon. Don’t believe reviews which say the meals here are expensive or not worth it. Those people don’t appreciate good food. It is absolutely worth it and I wish it was nearer where we live!

Sunday lunch and we managed to get a table for 1pm. Lucky us! The servers were friendly and present without being intrusive. The timing of everything was good. We didn't feel any pressure to decide what we wanted at any point. They clearly understand what it's like to be the people dining and the guests' comfort is a priority. We had a main and a dessert each and all the food was superbly cooked/prepared. The roast beef was beautifully rare and delicious, the slow-cooked pork was SO tender that the knife just slid through it yet the crackling crackled! Vegetables were perfect. Chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding as good as we've ever tasted. I'm recommending the Dartmoor Inn to all my friends and will go there again.

We stayed here for two nights just before the November lock-down. Our room was large, clean and very comfortable. Located over a busy pub/restaurant and next to a road some noise is to be expected until things calm down later in the evening. We enjoyed two excellent meals at the Inn. The beer battered fish and chips on our first night were very good; delicate flaky fish with a lovely beer flavour in the batter, and perfect chips. On our second night we had scallops, venison, and steak dishes that were all worthy of the top class restaurants where the owner/chef trained and worked. The same chef prepares breakfasts - his philosophy is that breakfast is a guest's final experience of their stay and should be the best possible - we enjoyed perfect full english breakfasts both days! There is a lovely atmosphere in the bar/restaurant in the evenings and the owners/staff were polite, friendly and efficient. A good base for exploring Lydford Gorge (when open), Dartmoor (any easy walk onto the moors from the Inn), Tavistock, and the surrounds. Highly recommended
