We booked on booking.com for a late getaway. Booking was easy and simple. Pay when you reach the hotel
Sat nav takes you straight to the hotel and there is 3 disabled bays to the rear of the hotel on a first come first served basis.
It’s worth nothing opposite is an old nat west parking area which says “staff only” which is free but fills up very quickly.
We carried on past and parked at the mill road long stay carpark. If you download the app you pay £2.60 for 24 hours.
A short 5 min walk to the hotel is all that’s needed.
We were greeted by a lovely receptionist who requested masks in corridors only. Staff are very friendly and helpful
We had room 114 which I must say was huge. Very well furnished and comfortable. Very large bed and extra pillows.
Room was supplied with the usual large tv, large sofa, hairdryer and coffee/tea making equipment. Iron, ironing board and fresh fluffy towels.
General standard is spotless 5*
Breakfast was big and worth a try/ refillable coffee and tea
It is worth noting due to the age of the building and being listed there are no lifts so disability access is restricted
Our room overlooked the garden area which looked lovely.
Check out is quick and easy
Bar area is very cosey and comfortable.
The hotel is very central and there is a good choice of shops, bars and restaurants nearby and within a short walk
It is also worth noting that room 114 does not have sound proofing so consequently the lady next door (who had an outstanding night apparently?) was overheard in full swing throughout the night. Take the extra pillow that’s in the wardrobe and either stick it over your own head or even better, hers 😂 jeez sounded like he was murdering the poor woman 🤭
Would we return? Most definitely

Our 3rd floor room was furnished to a high standard with a very comfortable king size bed offering great value for money.

We'd asked for a quiet room and whilst there was no noise from within the hotel, the hotel sits on busy cross roads at the heat of the town and I was woken at 6.15 by traffic, probably compounded by the wet road surface. Be warned if you're a high sleeper.

Staff were warm, polite and attentive.

We had difficultly ordering our evening meal using the App. The phone/wifi reception was poor in areas of the restaurant, meaning I had to move to get better reception and ended up paying via PayPal twice. However the second payment was efficiently refunded.

PLEASE, PLEASE can the wedges be removed from the internal fire doors. I twice removed the wedge from the door nearest our room but it was replaced. It stated on the door, 'fire door keep shut'.

Came to visit family for 2 nights and they recommended this place. When they said Wetherspoons I thought no way, however I looked at the reviews and it’s exactly what they say. It’s a hidden Gem lovely staff especially Kylie on the reception desk. The room was amazing such high ceilings. Will definitely be returning. We stayed on the 30th & 31st we couldn’t hear any noise in our room from all the celebrations for New Year.

We booked this hotel because we wanted to miss the traffic travelling back to the North West. Last year it took 13 hours travelling on a Saturday so we stayed here en route home to travel back on a Sunday instead.
When we arrived we parked accross the road it was £9.00 for 24 hours but the lady in reception said this was the most expensive car park so it might be worth just popping in and the reception team will direct you.
We booked a family room, we opened the door we all said "wow" it was enormous, beautiful and modern even though its a listed building.
We had two sofa beds plus a huge bed.
They emailed asking how we wanted the room setting up prior to our arrival.
The bathroom was modern with shower and bath with gels in dispenser etc.
We had biscuits, water and usual cofee tea.
We also booked a double room for our daughter and her room was beautiful too with a giant bed and still lots of room
The bed was so comfortable we all slept well no noise from bar downstairs.
The room also had air conditioning.
We ate in the restaurant downstairs and it was fine for families with children and the food is good value.
I have never stayed in a wetherspoons hotel before but I would definitely consider it again. Value for money, beautiful clean room steeped in history. We wished we'd booked for longer.

Stayed for one night as working in the area. Lovely hotel in a very old building that has been refurbished to a very height standard. No parking on-site so will need to park in public car parks in the town. There is a small one opposite. Hotel rooms are of a very high standard and knock spots off other hotels in the price range like premier inn and travel lodge. Would 100% stay again.

I've got to start this review by saying I wasn't expecting much from this stay based on previous visits to other Weatherspoons bars. But boy was I proved wrong. My husband was on crutches and so we were permitted to park in the disabled bay at the back of the hotel. Other members of our party found cheap parking easily close by. As soon as they saw my husband they moved us to a room on the first floor. There's no lift. Check in was friendly and quick. They even did a risk assessment in case of a fire. Our room was huge, room 104 and absolutely spotlessly clean. The bathroom had a large waterfall shower and plenty of soft fluffy white towels. Hairdryer, iron and ironing board were in the room too. Blackout curtains were a bonus and despite being right by the road it was so very quiet. Staff in the hotel and bar can't do enough for you. We had dinner and breakfast both of which were tasty and value for money. We were staying here to attend a family party as were at least another 10 members of our family, all of which had the same amazing experience. Highly recommended this hotel if you are in Okehampton. Thank you for looking after us.

Great place to stay with excellent value for money and super service from the staff.

It’s just reopened post COVID 19 and has adapted well to the situation. Lots of hand sanitiser everywhere and the app is used for ordering drinks and food etc.

We had two Interconnected rooms for a family of four which reception sorted for us. The rooms were just great and gave us lots of space. Bedrooms and bathrooms are modern clean and very comfortable. Air conditioning to if you need it... we did as it hit 30 degrees during our stay. We highly recommend this place for its modern clean rooms and fantastic staff and incredible value for money. Well done team Weatherspoons!

Drinks turned up quickly and they tasted fine and cold like they should be.
However food turned up really quickly which is normally a good thing. Every part of my mixed grill was as cold as stone! Food should be piping hot when it arrives! My friend asked for a side of cheddar cheese. We were expecting it to be grated but as you can see it the photo it was a single slice of horrible plastic cheese which cost £1:25. His food was also cold! Not impressed in the slightest.
No vinegar left in that section so had to go to another one to get some.
Also everytime I have been in there recently the tables have been stacked up high with empty plates and empty glasses everywhere.
Disgraceful!
Sort it out Spoons! Get some more staff! Going downhill very quickly! Won't be eating there again but drinks are cheap!

Given that we only paid £50 for a twin room, I wasn't expecting the Ritz, but I was very pleasantly surprised first at the attentiveness of the staff on the desk and in the bar and especially the room. It was large, stylish but sympathetic to the historic building. The bathroom was spotless and very good.

Booked in here for a couple of nights to explore the area.
Booking process was simple, and an email to confirm twin room not double was responded to quickly.
On arrival the staff were helpful and friendly. The room was well laid out, clean, and a decent bathroom with good shower.
We ate downstairs a couple of times, and it was the usual Wetherspoons fare - not fine dining, but perfectly acceptable and the expected good value. The app to order everything was fine, and quickly got used to its little quirks.
Covid precautions were sufficient, and felt appropriate.
Perhaps because of the pubs all shutting at 10 there wasn't any noise to speak of.
We were lucky with parking and got into the ex-Natwest little car park.
Overall, a very good stay and would happily stay there again.

Hi, is there still a disused bank whose car park we can use opposite this hotel? Thank you.
Answer from John P

There is a tiny car park opposite but we did not use it. We used a bigger one down by the river about a 5 min walk away. It was safe and very cheap. No problem getting a space there.

Hi Coastal38773972119, thank you for your enquiry. We are a listed building and do not have any lifts. We are also not an access friendly hotel as all our rooms are located on the first to third floor, but please feel free to give us a call on 01837 658 533 and we can explain a bit more about us if you would like. Our pub however does have access facilities as they are located on the ground floor
Answer from OkehamptonJDW
Hi Brad, Thank you for your question! We do infact have somewhere secure to store bicycles! We have recently had some metal Warrior bike lockers installed at the rear of the building. We only have 6 of them but can easily find somewhere secure to store the 7th bike. The bike lockers are free to use, we just ask that you give us a 'heads up' when booking so that we can reserve the lockers for you. Please feel free to contact us further if you need any more information or if you have any other questions. Kindest Regards, Becky
