Welcome to Bearslake Inn, We are a traditional thatched pub serving great, locally sourced food and offering quality accommodation in the stunning Dartmoor National Park. Situated in the hamlet of Lake in the picturesque North West corner of Dartmoor our chef’s specialise in local produce and lucky for us the West Country is blessed with wonderful supplies of meat, fish, vegetables as well as a host of small artisan producers of cheese, ice cream and smoked products. Where and whenever possible we always try to source these direct from the farmer, fisherman or grower. Our shopping criteria is simple; best quality and locally produced. Located between the small market towns of Tavistock and Okehampton on the A386, Bearslake Inn is an ideal base from which to explore the delights of the local Moors and Tor’s of the Nation Park. We have six spacious en-suite letting rooms (three of which are dog friendly) and plenty of parking. Just two miles south of the A30 and the border between Devon and Cornwall, it is easy to reach and yet is set amidst the glorious remote walking country. The magnificent Sourton Tor, Corn Ridge and Great Links Tor are all just a walk away with the Granite Way cycle path running directly behind the pub. Owners, Julian and Lisa have lived in the area for 10 years and took over the Bearslake Inn in March 2018. They are delighted to have the opportunity to build on Bearslake Inn’s reputation and they both look forward to welcoming you to their charming pub.

We came on Saturday for lunch after a ride across the moors and have to say the food and service were spectacular. They were very accommodating when we had to push our reservation back last minute, they seemed to have made the appropriate adjustments for covid, and the food was amazing! The host and waitress were very friendly and helpful, food was well presented and delicious, and I have to recommend the Dartmoor Legend ale on draught. Had a really great time, thank you!

Well the service was exemplary they made you feel welcome at ease and part of the staff were so nice it felt like you were with people you know. The food was amazing, taste, presentation and quality was 1st class. Would recommend anyone to go here. In fact would be worth the 100 mile round trip or stay the night. I find it difficult to give an honest opinion when I have only visited once, but having read some other reviews I have decided to add some comments. We only went for a drink early doors and were looking forward to going somewhere different. Yes there are covid restrictions in all pubs and hotels, but I do we wish staff would attempt tobe pleasant and friendly. We walked in to a very miserable guy who really didn't seem to want to be there. No greeting surly attitude. Had one drink and left. Not for us.

Dear John, You visited Bearslake on Wed 14th October around 5pm, so just as we were opening up for a busy evenings service. We are surprised that you think you it’s possible these days to come out to a pub with the Covid pandemic ongoing and expect things to be as they were before the pandemic, as this is most definitely not the case! With all the mandated changes including a 10pm close and table service (for drinkers as well!) this adds extra layers of workload not previously present before the pandemic. All at a time when hospitality businesses are working hard to keep everybody (staff and customers alike) safe, and to try to stay open and offer some sort of service in these unprecedented and unusual times. Most customers are very appreciative of this and understand that everybody is under increased pressure and make allowances. All of our staff are pleasant and friendly (we wouldn’t have hired them otherwise!) and we get many positive comments about their friendliness (you only have to read some of the immediately preceding reviews prior to yours to see this!). Although like everyone else they are only human and 5pm can be one of the busiest times of the day for us as we have guests arriving often all at the same time to check in to the Inns busy and popular bedrooms. We are sorry that you felt that staff were not “attempting to be pleasant “and more so that you are unable to make any allowances yourself for what may have simply been a difficult time of day for them whilst having to implement Covid restrictions that go against the very grain of hospitality! Although reading some of your other recent reviews you seem to direct your harshest comments towards those establishments that implement the highest of Covid standards. If that is a “failing” of ours then we are proud to be keeping our staff and customers safe during Covid. We are genuinely sorry if you feel you did not receive a welcome befitting of our industry during these most challenging times as we always try to welcome all our customers with the same personal, friendly, attentive and professional manner. We understand that Bearslake is not for you but thanks for giving us a try! Best wishes Lisa, Julian, Poppy and the Bearslake team

Just got back from a very enjoyable lunch at Bearslake - I had sirloin beef with beer glazed brisket , my wife had the veggy nut roast ...both served with a superlative selection of vegetables and delish gravies ! We shared the Bearslake house chocolate/hazelnut/praline bar with ice cream....beautiful. Pint and a half of coke, small bottle of prosecco and bill (with VAT) was under fifty! Very reasonable! Been here 6 or 7 times since new ownership and we're always impressed. Friendly and great service. We'll be back....

We visited The Bearslake Inn tonight having had a day at The Eden Project. I was very impressed having had a call earlier in the day to ask me which table they thought I would prefer. I had noted on the booking form that I had my elderly parents with me plus our two dogs. The lady I spoke to was extremely friendly and helpful. We were greeted at the door by the gentleman running the front bar. Forgive me ‘Landlord’ I didn’t catch your name. From the moment we sat down at our table we felt very welcomed. The staff are extremely friendly, accommodating and professional! The food is incredible to say the least! We don’t have huge appetites so didn’t have a starter sadly but the choice was superb! We also only had one dessert as it was rude not to have starters and pudding! This was exquisite. The menu is just right. You know you’re getting much more than your ‘average’ pub grub. It’s certainly made and devised by a great chef in my books! Well done Chef! All locally sourced which is fantastic! The Gin display is amazing too!! Cannot wait to return, won’t be long! Great to have this not too far from us!! Congratulations to you all who work here and thank you for a lovely time this evening. PS our doggies thank you for their treats too ♥️
