We had a great experience staying at the Duchy House Bed and Breakfast, it’s in a great location for exploring the great outdoors of Dartmoor.

We wanted somewhere on the moor, where we could do some mountain biking, away from the crowds, and Princetown turned out to be a great central location, with an array of good cycle trails and bridleways in every direction.

Duchy House Bed and Breakfast is a real gem of a B&B. The house is simply beautiful, you could tell the proprietors put a lot of work in, keeping the place spotlessly clean, immaculately presented with classy décor, and set with interesting & informative fine detail. Our room was light and spacious, the bathroom was modern, with a great shower, our bed was clean and comfortable. Even with our window wide open at night, the place was quiet and peaceful.

Breakfast was flawless, our host was very attentive and simply could not have done more to make us feel welcome and provided everything you would expect. The full Dartmoor breakfast was beautifully cooked and kept us going for the whole day.

Generally, our hosts were very welcoming and, very happy to chat, and share common knowledge of the local area, with their own recommendations, which also turned out to be flawless.

Whether you are off road cycling, on road cycling or hiking or just exploring Dartmoor and want somewhere slightly remote, quiet, and away from the crowds, then I’d highly recommend Duchy House.

Spent a night at the Duchy House on our way through Dartmoor and had a lovely stay. Our room - King’s Tor - was wonderful with a huge super king bed, a powerful shower and lots of small touches like a nespresso machine and makeup remover washing cloths. Richard cooked up a storm for breakfast and we left feeling well rested and well fed.

Duchy House is perfectly located for touring Dartmoor. The open moor of the National Park begins literally around the corner from this very comfortable B&B operated by a welcoming young family. Newly refurbished, the guest rooms retain the spaciousness and proportions of the Victorian heritage - an additional and very spacious bedroom could have been accommodated on the footprint of my ensuite bathroom! Duchy House offers a breakfast menu with many competently prepared choices. For dinner there is a pub next door which offers a good value range of dishes. Finally, there is on site car parking.

What an amazing B&B , from start to finish my experience was brilliant. With beautiful fresh decor.
It was the little touches for me that made my stye fantastic. The usual tea coffee selection was on offer of a high standard(fantastic coffee machine) The introduction of hot chocolate was the winner for me !! I am always wanting the chocolate fix and it wasn't just a throw away thought. This was a luxurious top quality chocolate, truly delicious when over looking a rainy vision of Dartmoor.
Free WiFi access in the rooms a vital when needing to write up your notes and reports for the day.
The stationary on the table "Wish You Were Here" in beautiful hand made paper was the most fantastic touch to the room. The lost art of writing to someone you love inspired me to send two notes and drawings of my stay.
The bed was comfy with white cotton sheet of a high quality and a quilt of the right Tog.
The breakfast was delicious with a selection of hot options of local produce. Cold options of fruit yogurt and muesli . Pack lunches are offered to !!
The owners and their boncing baby pup were charming welcoming and awesome. I would recommend this B&B to all it rocks. And has PARKING !! 10/10 would smash it 😁

This was our first visit to Duchy House and we would definitely return. Richard and Caroline were naturally friendly and welcoming and the en suite room was very clean and warm with a comfortable bed with soft and comfy pillows, tea and coffee facilities and a TV. The bathroom was clean with a good hot shower. There were plenty of breakfast options with good quality local ingredients. The woodburner in the breakfast room created a lovely warm and cosy atmosphere.

Stayed one night with my son. What a great find Duchy House was!

The room was clean, in good condition and a good size. Bed was comfortable and whilst the shower did not have the best water pressure it was perfectly adequate. The owners were very friendly when we chatted to them briefly at breakfast. The breakfast was great with a fair few options (cereal, toast, yogurt, cooked breakfast, vegetarian options etc). Being on the edge of Dartmoor, the location is wonderful with plenty of free parking and about 25m from the local pub where we had a very nice evening meal.

I would certainly return if I needed somewhere to stay on Dartmoor and would recommend to others.

Thank you for your review and recommendation of Duchy House - we're glad you and your son enjoyed your stay and our locally sourced breakfast. Being in the centre of Dartmoor, we are lucky to have a good pub nearby for a well earned drink after a day out on the moors!

DUCHY house offers a comfortable base for walkers, cyclists and those who want to explore both Devon and Cornwall. Caroline keeps an excellent house that is spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds she is also able to offer advice on places to visit and where to park. Richard is whizz with eggs and I had the best scrambled egg I've ever had.
Princetown is an ideal central location at the top of the Moor and you will have spectacular views everytime you go out. Word of warning it will take you longer than you think to travel over the moors, as you will have to stop and admire the ponies, sheep and numerous other animals that graze there.
10 out 10 we will be going back.

Duchy House is a fantastic B&B. Richard and Caroline are very friendly and welcoming hosts, the room was spacious and immaculately clean with a big, comfy bed and we had an excellent Full Dartmoor cooked breakfast, with plenty to choose from on the menu. The location is perfect for exploring Dartmoor, and Richard and Caroline have lots of local knowledge to point you in the right direction. As an added bonus the local pub is great and only a short walk away. I would heartily recommend Duchy House to anyone looking to stay in the area, we will definitely be going back.

Warmly welcomed by Richard to a light, warm, modern Duchy House B&B, right in the heard of Dartmoor. Our room had a large window that looked out over Dartmoor, unfortunately the low lying cloud meant we didn't get the best of the view, but the weather changes during the day. We were in a double room with a bathroom, table, chair, large tv, clothes rail, bedside lamps, large mirror. To my delight we had a 'Nespresso' coffee machine, along with teas, hot chocolate and kettle. Also had a hair dryer. The bed was firm and really comfy, it was comfortably warm in the whole building too. The decor was light and no clutter, nice touch to remind us we were on Dartmoor was the antler effect light fitting, our room was also named after one of the ancient Tors in the area. As we drove away later we saw we were surrounded by Tors, a real mystical feel in the area, especially with the low swirling cloud.
Cooked breakfast served by Caroline who was friendly and attentive, I had the vegan option and my partner Steve had the meat one, which included sausage patties (we had not heard of these before but he enjoyed them). There was also cereal, yoghurt, fruit juices and toast.

The parking area was behind the property, spaces for 5 cars, not sure if the garden was private or part of the B&B.

We would definately recommend the Duchy House B&B
