Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This summer we visited Higher Venton Farm for the 4th time. It was such a pleasure to be back after a few years. The farm is a unique place in the middle of Dartmoor, very peaceful and quiet. We stayed there with friends & children. Margaret told us a lot about her Dartmoor Ponys which was very interesting for us. Widecombe itself is lovely little village not far away from Houndtor and Haytor. There is beautiful nature in the surroundings. And if it's raining, which usually not often happens in Dartmoor, the Rugglestone Inn is just a short walk away from the farm. Thanks a lot, Margaret & Michael, for being such wonderful hosts. We hope to see you again soon!

A very warm welcome awaits at Higher Venton. This has truly become my home from home. Just a hop off the A38, makes it a perfect base to explore Dartmoor and the wider area. Super comfortable bed and breakfast is a great time to chat with Margaret about her passion for native Dartmoor ponies. Mike and Margaret’s knowledge of the area ensures a great stay. Look forward to seeing you again in the Spring.

We have just enjoyed another wonderful few days with Margaret and Michael and Helen at Higher Venton Farm . This is a home from home for us and we have been coming for many years now. You could not wish for a warmer welcome here, lovely comfy rooms and beds, and a delicious breakfast with lots of variety. The beautiful scenery and lovely ponies and other animals add to the joy of it all. We are looking forward to the next time we can visit. Thank you again to you all! X

We had a very warm welcome and we felt like home during our stay. The beds are unbelievable comfortable, the breakfast was reach. We enjoyed or stay so much and when we'll come back to Widecombe on the Moor, we'll be back at the Higher Venton Farmhouse as well.

We had a lovely two-day stay at Higher Venton Farm. Margaret ist a wonderful host, preparing an excellent continental breakfast, even asking us to take some fruit for our walk. Our room was ensuite and very clean. Margaret also gave us some good advice on where to go for a walk. We look forward to staying with her again. Paul and Veronika from Germany

A great location with friendly hosts. 2 fine pubs in walking distance and a good starting point for Dartmoor walks. Our room, in an atmospheric old working farm, was very comfortable and quiet. Thank-you Margaret!

This B&B was perfect for our family! We stayed for 3 nights and we would have loved to stay longer. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. We loved the views from the bedroom windows. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choices. Margaret went out of her way to provide scones and clotted cream for breakfast after I asked about them even though they are typically served for afternoon tea. Margaret and Michael are so friendly and welcoming....we felt like we were staying with family.

Just returned from a week at what must be the perfect base from which to explore this most spectacularly beautiful part of Devon. Higher Venton Farm is a beautiful example of a traditional Devon thatched longhouse. Retaining so many of its original features, it has a relaxed, homely atmosphere, spotlessly presented, making our stay a very pleasant, comfortable experience that I am sure we shall repeat in the future.
