Can’t speak for standard of double rooms as we had booked a large room with king bed, lovely spacious room with sea view. Unfortunately we could hear quite a bit of activity from different directions, people walking around above, loo & shower from next door. Should imagine

Came here for four nights with a birdwatching group. Lovely building with views (ours looked out to a rookery, so we were well served!) and lots of lounges so there was always somewhere for our post-dinner de-briefs. Breakfast was plentiful - buffet (with tea and coffee served

Hello, Thank you very much for your comments, we are very sorry that you find our charges unreasonable. We originally took the decision to charge for dogs back in 2015 and having given several months’ notice we introduced the charge on 1st January 2016. It was not a decision we took lightly and was taken in response to guest requests. We consulted with many of our regular, dog owning, guests and explained that it seemed unreasonable that the additional costs and extra time and effort of accepting dogs is not a cost which should be borne by all of our guests, as it was previously, but should be shouldered by the guests who chose to bring their dogs with them. Those we spoke to accepted that this was a fair and reasonable approach. We make it abundantly clear that we are not responsible for the provision of food and drink for guest’s animals although we do make ample provision for watering dogs. You chose to avail yourself of the provision of fresh milk for you dogs and were informed of the charge in advance. You could of course have requested that Deliveroo or some other similar service collect your order of milk direct from Sainsbury or even have Sainsbury deliver it direct to the hotel (although we do not believe they will currently deliver direct to commercial retailers at present) either of these options would probably have added between £2.50 and £4.00 to the price of the Milk and of course there would have been some delay. You would however avoid the 20.0% VAT which we are obliged to charge on top the purchase price. You also appear to have overlooked that we, in providing a service, are also a business with quite large overheads and costs which must also be taken into account when supplying goods. We employ almost 90 staff all year round and there were probably 5 members of the team involved in providing the milk, The Head chef who orders, the porter who receives and checks in the goods and ensures that the goods are placed in the correct temperature controlled storage, the waiting staff who fetch the milk for you, the wash up team who clean up afterwards and the reception team who look after the administration. On top of the staff, we also have the equipment to store the milk, the energy to power the equipment, the rates for the building and the 19 acres of grounds to house the equipment. The maintenance, upkeep and eventual disposal of the equipment, and the disposal of any waste in an environmentally appropriate fashion. There also many other expenses all of which must be included when attempting to set a fair price for goods and services. Whilst we would love to be able to operate and provide our services at a lower cost, somewhere we must make a charge, otherwise we would cease to trade. As you mentioned, on this occasion we did not make a charge but as we are sure you will appreciate this approach is unsustainable in the long run. Once again, we are sorry that we could not live up to your expectations on this occasion but hope that you can understand the reasoning and will choose to visit us again in the future. Kind Regards Mark Rogers Partner
