Appearances can be deceptive. At first glance the hotel looked very classy. And this was shown in the price for an overnight stay. But the hotel was over run with group bookings. Leaving us lowly customers out in the cold. We got shoved in a side room for our evening meal, which

Hello, Thank you very much for your review, which we are very disappointed to read. We are a little at a loss with where to start, yes, the hotel did have other parties staying however nobody was “shoved” into a side room. We have many rooms where we serve dinner according to demand, on this occasion one party were served in the Washington Ballroom, another party were served in the Lincoln restaurant and the third group served in the Verandah room. The Verandah room is a very popular room, often requested for private dining for parties of up to 30 guests, the room is 7.3metres x 5.3metres with an attractive gothic arched window filling one wall and a lovely view across the hotel lawns to the sea, not what we would call a side room. We do not advertise a 4-course fine dining experience we do however offer a good value freshly cooked (not microwaved) meal, with a choice of four starters, five main courses plus seasonal vegetables and four sweets plus ice creams and sorbets followed by a selection of cheeses with grapes, celery and biscuits. All of this was freshly prepared that day by our team of eight chefs, none of the food was left-over from Christmas. We are sorry you found the room basic, it is one of our most requested rooms, it was redecorated only a few weeks ago and had the electrics updated, and a new tv installed as well as updated air conditioning. The room has a 3metre wide panoramic window overlooking the hotel lawns, the sea and Exe estuary. We could find no trace of any leaks from the radiator. The basin tap was, as you pointed out, plumbed incorrectly thank you for pointing this out, it has now been corrected. I am not sure why breakfast should be hurried. We offer service from 8.00am till 10.00 am on a Sunday and there were no coach parties booked in to the hotel, although the larger party of 80 individuals, in common with many groups do tend to eat at the same time. The sausages we offer are sourced from local award-winning butchers Andrew James and the bacon and black pudding is also top quality. We are sorry you found it inedible, we only had compliments from our other guests who were with us over the weekend with most re-booking to visit again. We are very pleased you found all the staff friendly and helpful but obviously very saddened that we did not meet your expectations. Thank you once again for your comments Kind Regards Mark Rogers Partner
